  10. I did AFF at Skydive Temple in Salado, TX. The army decided I should go to Camp Atterbury immediately after i finished AFF, nobody asked me. I did 4 jumps at Jerry's Skydiving Circus (Explore Free Fall) while TDY, and I have to say, jumping a new DZ while in student status was amazing for my personal growth. I had to jump unfamiliar gear at an unfamiliar dropzone, from an unfamiliar aircraft with unfamiliar people. I got better at DZ ID, tracking and canopy flying with very little instruction, and got a free packing class. A big plus is that both DZs are amazing. What a great time. 11. Don't stop going to the DZ. Due to clouds and winds, I spent 8 days at the DZ from 9 to 5 without going up once, and I learned a ton from picking brains. My AFF took from April to July to complete. Best of luck and welcome! SCR 15113 USPA Coach-C Hellfish 1004
  12. Korea eh? Military? Just got back from Korea myself last August and AFF'd at Skydive Temple. Can't seem to stop spending money on it...or thinking about it, or annoying my friends by talking about it, or doing it while on a half day at a TDY in Indiana. SCR 15113 USPA Coach-C Hellfish 1004
  13. Not an event, just gonna be there tomorrow. Anyone else? SCR 15113 USPA Coach-C Hellfish 1004
  14. Not much experience jumping anywhere else, but I've had an absolutely amazing time doing a tandem and completing AFF at Skydive Temple. The instructors are great, and everyone put up with my 700 questions every time I got stuck on the ground due to wind. I've heard people call the DZ small, but it's perfectly adequate for me and the dozen or so other neophytes I've seen guiding in canopies like nervous children. The real sell is the community feel which doesn't do a single thing to diminish the ever present emphasis on safety.
  15. Is it an air addiction? I have 7.5 hours flying time and 14 landings and 10 jumps. They're 15 years apart. It must be a calling to the air, we can't get away from it...I can't. My dad's a pilot...issues SCR 15113 USPA Coach-C Hellfish 1004
  16. We all learn differently. When I had an instructor who told me to do stuff, asked me to repeat it, nodded and said, "cool."It was on, I rocked those AFFs. When I had instructors who talked me through the dive flow for an hour and asked me 60 questions on the ride up, i barely passed. You need to know if you're a tell me-then leave me alone learner or overteach the crap out of me learner and cherry pick your instructor, If you EP'd successfully with a cool head, you got the stuff! Keep it up. SCR 15113 USPA Coach-C Hellfish 1004
  17. Did 6 and 7 today, got my first standup landing, and I just couldn't be happier. 9 hours at Skydive Temple and free beer afterwards! SCR 15113 USPA Coach-C Hellfish 1004
  18. I've recently started looking 45 degrees, it seems to help SCR 15113 USPA Coach-C Hellfish 1004
  19. gratz! SCR 15113 USPA Coach-C Hellfish 1004
  20. btw, one of the best DZ stories was a woman (in her 60s) telling me about a nudist camp jump she did in the 80s (mind blown). SCR 15113 USPA Coach-C Hellfish 1004
  21. hehe they won't let you get in other peoples' way. As an AFF student you will be treated with kid gloves. Last out of the plane, and last on the DZ. The instructors will make sure you eat, breathe, and sleep the info you need to know. Just remember, a high pull won't necessarily fail you, a low pull will. The more you put into it, the more you get out of it. But, don't listen to this AFF student, listen to your instructor. SCR 15113 USPA Coach-C Hellfish 1004
  22. don't forget to smile for the camera SCR 15113 USPA Coach-C Hellfish 1004
