  2. It's your flag - you can fly it any darned way you want, even upside down! You don't need someone else's permission. I wasn't asking "permission". I was asking about etiquette. ------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
  3. Was curious if it was any different for home displayed. Mine is. Done. Thanks Quade ------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -

  5. Had to add a couple things. Spent a good dollar for this truck. Got 2 big ol dogs we take with us which is kind of the reason we went with the crew cab Well, nice leather seats so a cover was in order. Couldnt find anything we liked so tried those portable crates. THAT didnt work. Bernese Mountain Dog and a German Shepherd. Couldnt get both crates in together Sooooo, camper shell it is.... ------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
  6. A recent road trip to see the wife's Nucks beat my Sharks ------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
  7. I work a lot of holidays, 48 hour shifts at an ambulance station. Sometimes the schedule rolls around in a crews favor and a lot of holidays are days off. I used to pick up those days when I was single for folks with families. This year Im on duty but it's alright being as the wife is on duty also (she does 72s and 96s ) My sister works at Target and as for working Thanksgiving, it was a "wait and see what WalMart is doing" as far as opening times etc.... As for those working, I make an effort to at least say thanks to folks, have a good holiday. Cops on the street, that ambulance crew posting on the street corner, nurses, the person mopping the floor in the ER, that old lady trying to make ends meet behind the counter at Jack in the Box etc. ------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
  8. Had my issue of Parachutist (from todays mail) in my truck AND SHE TOOK IT I have GOT to get her to the dropzone. LOVE to hear her tell how it was!! Wondering if theres anyone around here from the maybe early 70's might know her? ------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
  9. Well, Im kinda helping her deal with the passing of her husband VERY recently so.... (we just today spread his ashes on a mountain overlooking her home) Taft, early 70's is what she shared with me this afternoon. We talked about taking a ride out there to see how its changed since. I think that would be awesome for her! ------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
  10. Known a very sweet 75 year old lady through work for years and couple days ago she saw a t-shirt I was wearing and she says, "I used to skydive, I still have my skydiving boots". She showed em to me yesterday. What an interesting surprise. ------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
  11. Was fitted for my Tyvek "suit" etc. day before yesterday. will become part of my required bring to work crap, "just in case".... ------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
  12. Spur of the moment road tripped to S.F. (from socal) to see my San Francisco Giants play yesterday. ------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
  13. I used a credit card at a Flying J gas station and soon after had a bunch of charges come up in the Los Angeles area (I was nowhere near LA). I think one of the biggest disappointments was the modern attitude of "Its just part of doing business these days" when I commented to the lady on the phone regarding how easy it was to be reimbursed by the bank. ------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
  14. So how does one find out just what exactly is in an old box of old coins nowadays? Zero interest in selling, just like to maybe take them somewhere and have someone that knows what they are looking at check em out here in SoCal. Any suggestions? ------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
  15. Expensive truck wash attendant. I bet you had to buy it a house and feed and clothe it too. She makes more than what I do so must be doin SOMETHING right ------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
  16. 2014 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 Laramie. Gonna take some time to figure out all the bells and whistles. German Shepherd and personal truck washer/Fiance was extra ------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
  17. I was a roofer for 20 years and being on the job early as possible was usually the norm unless people actually complained. Funny story our crew was working in Marin County Ca, maybe it was in Sausalito, but there was some ordinance or something about working construction on Sundays. Myself and a roofing partner were really hung over and really didn't want to work so WE called in a complaint. We watched an I think it was a sheriff hitting every job sight shutting them down until he got to us, same thing. My opinion, if it bothers you, call and complain. I would if it was in my neighborhood. ------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
  18. hmmm....maybe I should be nicer to my partner........ ------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
  19. Was killing me to think about leaving him here when we relocate in the near future to (hopefully) Northern Idaho. He was such a big part of our future life there. Now Im a bit more comfortable knowing he is going with us. Local Vet is going to do this tonight after hours, and agreed to performing the euthanasia out in my truck. That back seat is one of his favorite places in the world!! LOVED road trippin' with the family! I expressed my concerns with the final returned remains "is that really my dogs remains in there". I was reassured at length that he will be sent to a very reputable facility, only place Vet will use... Its not realistic for me to go there personally for several reasons so I just have to overcome my suspicious nature I guess. Again, thanks for the support and true understanding, its appreciated. ------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
  20. Awesome responses thank you. Just arranged for the private cremation, having the ashes returned. Gonna get a cool box for them. Fuck it. He wont be suffering and I will always have him here. Got a couple more days with him here, gonna spoil his ass. I feel better with the decision made. ------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
  21. Part of the reason Im considering cremation is we wont be here to much longer. We live in the mountains, huge yard, forest we all love literally 50 ft. out our front door. Already picked a burial spot but thinking I'd like to have him with us when we move. Another issue is his "sister", a big giant spaz of a Bernese Mountain Dog. She's already doing the distancing thing as expected, but definitely going to have to find her another companion. Its funny but I have "put down" many pets, but this ones tougher for whatever reason. I would guess Im a bit more emotionally "retarded" after 11 years on an ambulance in a 911 system where for the most part I have learned to deal with brief glimpses of human tragedy. As previously mentioned, this is family. I have not previously had the means to pursue a better outcome like I do now but I have attempted to throw money at this to no avail. He went to a top notch Los Angeles veterinary hospital, had a bunch of tests done that revealed a mass in his spinal cord that did not respond to IV antibiotics and although didn't show as cancerous, was treated with no success with pill form chemo. He's only 4 fucking years old, which was his best shot. He tries, he really does. We used slings to assist his now useless back legs and that is now very painful getting him up. Bought boots for his rear toes curling under, bad. I bought a very expensive canine "wheelchair" with hopes he could enjoy walks, very painful until he's actually in it (had small successes). No urine or bowel control and he HATES it. Anyways, I guess Im just kinda venting now.... Ok ------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
  22. Yeah done this way way too many times never gets easier. Just never thought of keeping the remains. He's a 4 year old 115 lb. German Shepherd. Honestly not too terribly concerned with the $$, I really put a lot of that into giving him a chance, unfortunately the quality of life is rapidly diminishing. ------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
  23. Because its sunday and they are not there to answer my questions.... I always thought people that had a pet "put to sleep" and then requested to have the cremated remains returned to them were just a little bit, well, off. Always felt it was just a little much... I will be having my most loyal friend euthanized later this week and really am putting a lot of thought into having his cremated remains returned to me. This one is tough. We have done everything we can for him and its time. My thoughts were of course just how much does it cost and how sure can you be its your pets remains?? Im gonna discuss this with our local vet in the morning but just wondering if this is right. Small town, no idea if cremation is done elsewhere etc. Just a thought..... ------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
  24. C'mon, I even went into SC? I'll just say I hope the whole family ditchs a&e By the way, never watched the show... ------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
