  1. That was back before intellectuals (i.e. those clueless ivory-tower elites) became the enemy of the right. Now it's the party of Trump, Sarah Palin, GW Bush and Joe the Plumber. you have to wonder why those sexist, racist, red neck, hateful wingers started name calling ... 4. Good points. I'll still contend the worst of the worst leaks were from Trump's own mouth......which clearly would have had the effect of making more people vote pro-Hillary ... 5. exactly, the 'target audience' already made up their minds. Nor the other audiences either being 'fed' what they wanted to hear. I don't think any votes were 'influenced'. ... 6. 3 things and I'll rank them according to my opinion here: 1 - Vote Tampering - actually altering the ballet box and changing an existing vote to something it isn't - either immediately, electronically, during recount reviews, etc etc 2 - Voter Fraud - non-citizen voting, multiple voting, deceased voting, etc 3 - Voter Influence - releasing targetted e-mails, campaigning, false and true news, October surprises, etc etc etc From what I can tell, the Russia accusation is influencing, not tampering. As far as unfluencing, I prefer to get my one-sided, ridiculously biased, and twisted information from the approved sources: the media and the campaigns and my friends . Not some country or organization that might not have at least the intent of the best interests of my country. But seriously, the vote was so sharply and inevitably divided, I don't know anything that could have been leaked that would have swayed anybody either way. Including video of EITHER candidate slowly torturing a kitten and bathing in their blood - no matter how good it is for Hillary's skin. If the Russian's really did attempt something, then I truly laugh at them for an epic waste of effort and resources. They truly do not understand the political obstinacy of the population at all. I recommend Putin spend some time here in Speaker's Corner. then he'd understand the collossal waste of time his group went through. ... 7. Can I take that as a 'you would like to get rid of the electoral college?' Jerry Baumchen no - we vote, and the state uses those votes to assign electoral votes. I have no issue with this system really. Even if I sometimes don't like the results. The only thing I'm against is changing the rules mid-campaign or after the fact. ... 8. My short reaction to this - 1 - nothing that was 'leaked' or a 'surprise' news or announcement was anything earth shattering. I believe worse about both candidates than any surprise info. In otherwords, the info was 'meh'. 2 - I trust the voters to vote as they will. I'd be more worried about the ability to vote tamper. That's more scary than the voters actually voting with bad data. They already vote with bad data. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
  9. OK, I'll bite. Please tell us which of Trump's announced cabinet picks have not staked out some kind of extreme position in the area of their appointment. ^ nice example though a bit sideways for the more 'direct' readers in the audience. thanks ... 10. So Russia was able to hack both parties' servers and get a lot of crap that both sides wanted to hide from the world. Then they released more of the DNC crap that the DNC was hiding from us, than the RNC crap that the RNC was hiding from us. ok.....fine. I'd rather have all of it. From both sides. so we get some of the truth but not all of it. still better than the lies and distortions and strawmen that both DNC and RNC were deliberately trying to feed us.... But the big complaint wasn't that there was a lot of info being hid. It's that the release of it wasn't even handed? 1 - It would be neat to see all the info being hidden from both teams. We'd never get that. 2 - I'd prefer that Russia stay out of it. 3 - Internet security sucks. I hope the CIA and the military (etc) have better security than our political orgs. Frankly I don't care about those guys - I hope my BANK and e-mail and Amazon has better. ... 11. You always hit the nail square - 1 - everyone on the 'other' team is represented by the worst fanatics of the group - quick!! dehumanize them, label them, make up fake stuff (because it's probably real and we can't wait - you just KNOW what the MEAN when they say that), purposely misinterpret harmless statements in the worst possible way, call them deplorable names - ignore the fact that the majority of these are family and neighbors and mostly decent people 2 - everyone on my team has great intentions and are human - forgive them, rationalize them, validate them, when they say something stupid reinterpret it in the best way even if it's not what they meant - ignore the fact that even in this group a tiny fraction are totally out to lunch and really crappy people (the above is not what we call "debate", or an "exchange of ideas" - it's just assholery and self-validation) ... 16. we're drifting that way - more government, then more nationalization of subjective stuff that "bothers" populace - hate speech etc etc etc - PC thuggery. 17. I can burn my couch and call it a 'political statement' I don't see how the type of object should make the rules any different. It's like having laws against distracted driving, and then some moron decides we need a law against texting while driving. Apparently Alito agrees? Alisha's point is likely the strongest argument that could be used - call it hate speech and see if it can be 'regulated'. I would oppose that (if I had any power) - but it's an argument that could be made fairly well if not successfully. Heck, the fact that something so 'anti-PC' could use a PC argument is a good discussion against the concept of 'hate speech' legislation in the first place. ... 18. Someone can get upset. I don't care. What they can't do is try to force their 'upset' into ridiculous laws on others that disagree. We have enough people that think that every single opinion they have needs to be validated with force of law over the wills of others. To me this should be strictly about private property. Your flag - do what you want with it. Not your flag - it's not yours, leave it alone. Already laws on the books about vandalism, theft, and arson. No more are needed just for a single specific scenario. (just to make some demographic happy). It's not really about speech, it's about property and independence from government. But if it ever would get to a major court, they'd likely try it on free speech, and I think that's a weak argument, or at least a 2nd level one vs the property one. Speech gets more press. Personal opinion on flag burning? I think it's idiotic and not respectful, and I would choose not to. But that does NOT trump my philosophy on private property and personal choice to try and push that on others. If one chooses (and this must be protected) and one wants to be an asshole and show they have no class and resort to defiling their own property instead of verbalizing a coherent statement, then that's one's option. I'm fine with it and happy to be able to clearly see that person's defect. of course - if enough people get outraged over that tweet, then maybe the usual crowds will back off a little about who is getting interviewed for what right now ... 22. Not all conservatives (except the 'usual crowd' - both sides have 'those' people). A LOT of people, in general, complained about it because it was a terrible precedent to (continue to) establish. Exec Orders are supposed to be used to enforce existing law, not bypass congress' duties. People hate the equivalency discussions because it shines the light on both sides instead of just reinforces their echo chambers. The measure of any politician for me, is when I know their 'opinions' and whether they are able to govern cleanly even when their opinions are in contrast with law. Same goes for judges. Politicians hide their opinions, or, IMO, just don't have any opinions that aren't fed to them. this guy sure doesn't hide anything. The problem nowadays is people want their 'opinions' codified into law. It's a pretty narcissistic culture and we're seeing it everywhere. I'll hope for the best, but expect the worst and be prepared. ... 23. That will be true if he recommends to congress to pass a law to that effect. Until then, it's just an opinion. I'm saying he won't do just that, but it would be nice if they wait until then instead of continuing to throw the strawmen out. Boy that cries wolf and all that..... ...
