  3. that's good to see - because there are more people like this on both sides of the debate than there are those truly "despicable" on the fringes. despite what the media tries to feed us 1 - maybe some feeling guilty after the mess they made 2 - maybe more just wanting to clean up the mess of "those assholes that made a mockery of what should have been our peaceful demonstration" 3 - maybe more that just like their neighborhood to be a good place to be whatever reason, ..... it's good to see. we need more info like this once in a while - about people on any side of the aisle. ... 4. I think they've done the socio/political calculus and have come to a different conclusion. You're free to disagree, but that doesn't mean you're right. I think his point is that this response is analogous to the campaign strategy (that 'calculus' (i hate that term in this use) certainly was a dramatic failure). Their calculus (which seems to ignore anything that's not self affirming) itself is what's under question. One definitely can claim the same faulty calculus on the far right as well. And look how well that's turned out for us all as of today. the parties need a refresher in 'maths' (I'm not looking forward to decades of ridiculous extreme swings in policy as each party trades power based on sucking up to their angry and close minded fringes) ... 8. Let's say the government takes a set amount of money from everybody (think flat fee) ANY adjustment, that isn't applied to everyone, to that (subsidy, deduction, special tax, penalty, progressive/regressive rate structures, fees, etc etc etc) changes that amount - which is a net transfer between those that get that adjustment and those that don't. (whether you agree with the adjustments or not, whether you think they are a good thing or a bad, etc etc) so playing dictionary with Jerry really ignores the point he's making ... 9. Thankfully you took firm action, so that somebody with those traits could not become president. Yes, good example of what I'm talking about. it was a bit tough when both front runners fit the description. I voted for Gary. Which isn't good enough for the sycophants of either team. But, as goofy as he was, at least fit what I believed in and with someone that didn't pander to that type of mindset. ... 10. GOP and DNC are masters at twisting stuff that way. Only those that are looking to be outraged LET it really happen....and they are usually the converted ones already. Frankly, she was just sucking up to her base. Foolish move since she already had those votes. It just means she was human and enjoying the crowd's responses and got carried away and forgot that her audience isn't just those in front of her, but everywhere the media goes.....It's not like decades ago when this stuff doesn't get out. IMHO - don't forget those on the left that feel that way without anyone bending any statement - It was less about HRC's statement than about just everyday people saying stuff like that and treating other people like that all the time (Speaker's Corner is a great microcosm of that). HRCs statement just brought it to a head. You can ignore the one asshole that's being obnoxious, but you can't ignore it when the leader of the movement starts to publicly disregard opposing views, belittling people's intentions, and diminishing people in the same way. I've never seen an activist lefty 'convince' anyone to join their side that isnt already there. But I have seem them alienate people from their positions. (It's a lot like talking to a hard core religiously right person.) It's too bad, there are a lot of good intentions in there that makes it worth a listen. ... 14. It's the United States of America in name and concept... Not the United Counties of America so this thread starter succeeds in missing the point of both arguments: 1 - the whole point of the Electoral College and how the states were to be treated by design of the founders 2 - the whole point that popular vote advocates want to move further towards individualism as a natural evolution from states to persons so while today's discussion is the balance between 1 vs 2, this thread goes off on a tangent of epic mootness - this is just random rationalization of the Trump result instead of a good discussion of government philosophy. I'll just bundle the 'hey look at the counties' crowd in with the people that go back and forth between 1 and 2 depending on the outcome they are outraged/excited about. ... 15. this - body cams are not a one side only protection. 1 - proof that lets us protect citizens from bad cops and abuse of authority 2 - proof that lets us protect cops from bogus accusations and staged conflicts (it might surprise some to recall that cops are also citizens and people too.....) potential 2ndary uses I'm not in favor of (marketing, ad placement, blackmail, personal entertainment, political leverage, picking up chicks, facebook live streaming, etc etc etc) 2ndary I 'might be in favor of (refining police processes and policy, training, public relations between police and those they serve) I find it weird when people argue for cams for one purpose and not both. Both happen. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
