  1. I recently experienced the horror of watching someone jump a PD canopy (PD253) on a PCA from a 220' B...Yikes!
The canopy opened, and he survived, but it looked like an accordion in use all the way to the ground.
It never fully pressurized, and therefore the man takin' the ride met the pavement with a resounding "OOF!"
Not something I would care to jump, nor even see anyone else do so again.

You can get a lot more done with a kind word and a gun than with a kind word alone.

  2. I know one jumper who does use Slinks...Tandem reserve slinks.
    So far so good.
But, as with most things in this sport, when trying this I believe you are placing yourself in a "test jumper" situation...

It's also a matter of personal comfort...
I know this jumper personally, and jump with him quite often...He has since logged many more jumps with that configuration, so far without incident.

  3. The more ya fuck with somethin', the more chances you'll have to fuck it up...I see no need to continually disconnect and reconnect the canopy to the risers...
Using a pull-up cord or a reasonable facsimile thereof to tie the slider down works just fine for me, although I have seen others using velcro "loops" for quick up or down changes...

  4. Stayin' local, some of us are not fortunate enough to have that option.[:/]
We have one 1300 foot stick, but no 'vator.(I'm lazy)
Other than that, the few local objects that we have are definitely on slider down turf...
Kinda takes the guess work out of the packing...

  5. By the way...
I didn't mean to sound ungrateful for the card...
Receiving that card, along with my BASE number was one of the greatest highlights of my life so far...The feeling of accomplishment in completing BASE far outshines most anything else that I've experienced. I must also add that every jump for me is an incredible experience in both a mental and physical way that I've never found skydiving.
A big thanx goes out to the Harrisons for all that they do and have done for BASE...your work is greatly appreciated, and should not go unmentioned.

  6. Thanx to those "psycho" pioneers, we're able to do what we do today "somewhat safely"...
Might this be the patch that was mentioned?
I personally started jumping too late to have received one from Jean Boenish, and got the "card" instead...The patch was given to me by one of the aforementioned "psychos" that was fortunate enough to have survived those days too...

  7. Try the patch, and/or nicorette gum...It took me both to even start to settle the craving. Once you've given your body the nicotine, there is nothing other than a psychological craving left to deal with.(bad enough, I know, but hey... one thing at a time). I've been off the smokes for over a year now, after 24 years of anywhere from one to three packs a day. It's not easy, but it is worth it in the long run...if nothing else, just think of the money you'll save...

  8. How about something bio-degradeable, that won't hang around long. Toilet paper works much better, and will dissapear in no time...

  9. I believe what you're looking for can be found at the U.K. base site...www.basejumper.org
Go to the "base info" section, and you'll find a freefall chart.

  10. Marta and Jimmy at Vertigo rock!
They are both great people with alot of knowledge.
Fortunately for us, they are willing to share that knowledge.I had a chance to meet them in Twin Falls, Idaho (Perrine bridge) while they were giving one of their first jump courses. They go above and beyond teaching you how to survive your first jump, and most of their students leave the bridge with several jumps under their belts...

  11. I read in Rolling Stone magazine that the "excitable boy" was told by doctors that he had only weeks to live...I believe it's terminal lung cancer...[:/]

    Send lawyers, guns, and money...
The shit has hit the fan.

  12. I personally would not recommend a pin rig for your first...velcro is much simpler, and subsequently safer for a beginner...Although I am just assuming that he is talkin' beginner stage...I apologize if my assumption is wrong...I also personally see no need for a pin rig at all for myself, unless we're talkin' sub 200' freefalls, and/or flying a wingsuit...

  13. I personally like all of Adam Filippino's gear...I have both a Mojo, and an Ace, and am happy with both...(although I have no experience under anything else). In my low time opinion (around 55 jumps on the Mojo, and 35 on the Ace) the Ace is the winner hands down...The zp top skin let's the Ace out perform the Mojo in every aspect, from opening and pressurization to touchdown flare...One of my BASE teachers is a rigger and a very experienced skydiver and BASE jumper, and has jumped other BASE canopies from different manufacturers. He swears by the Ace. He now has two, and won't jump anything else...Check the BASE Board (www.blincmagazine.com) archives, and gear reviews...You should be able to find other opinions there...Hope this helps...stay cool and keep a LOW profile..........704 *On another note, I would also recommend taking a look at www.vertigobase.com as Marta makes some great gear as well...
