I've come to the conclusion that I'm just going to lie on the questionaire and donate blood and organs and hope the system catches anything that may be wrong with my blood. What's the worst that can happen?

*totally kidding, but wonder how many people out there that aren't like me that just lie and donate anyways.

There are plenty of heteros out there who rarely if ever get themselves tested, and slap on a rubber just to stop a baby from being made, if even that.
If you keep your testing up to date, practise safe sex, I don't see any issue, and frankly you will be ahead of the game.

Edit: In any event, this whole thing is more about the right to be honest, not about the ability of men who have sex with men to donate blood. Because, mitigating circumstances aside, it really is just an honour system.

  2. Increasing? Naw. People are people and have been since we began. Sometimes you notice it more, and in this age of social media, cameras in phones, and the ability to spread gossip instantly, it becomes more noticeable. But I doubt it can be said people are MORE irresponsible

  3. You are missing the point. Yes, there is a higher risk of gay men having it. But there are enough heteros getting HIV that they are a risk group too, now. So the screening system has to be changed to something better than "we'll check these people but wont worry about these people".

It is my understanding that HIV can remain dormant and undetected for six months or longer. A blood transfusion can be an immediate infection and the company cannot afford that level of liability.

All blood is tested. However, asking the question of sexual activity is another level of precaution for the blood collection company.

Bottom line, you are a higher level of risk and they can refuse your donation.

The DMV representative is not medically trained. They are only instructed and trained to ask the question of whether or not you want to sign up as an organ donor.

The risk of HIV in heterosexual men and women is much higher than it used to be. Which renders the whole "one source of blood is less risky than others" argument balderdash. Either your system of screening the blood works and is used across the board, or it doesn't work, and you are taking chances whether the donor is gay or not.

  5. Employment drug testing is not permitted here in Ontario. Huzzah!
From the Ontario Human Rights Commission:

It is the OHRC’s view that such testing is prima facie discriminatory and can only be used in limited circumstances. The primary reason for conducting such testing should be to measure impairment.

  6. THe milk is intended to be shared by all. By taking it and keeping it for onesself, I believe it is theft. Obviously no-one will go to jail for it, but it is still pretty shoddy form.

  7. Who will see this?

At first I thought of this as yet another in a long sting of attempts by Hollywood to capitalize on old successes by doing a remake. A remake that simply did not need to be done. The original was a classic. Violent and gory? Yes. Funny? Hell yeah. But more than that, it was a satire of modern commercialization, corrupt politics, and corporate culture. It reflected its times beautifully.

I have been hearing some compelling reasons to go see it though. So I am willing to entertain the idea...

  8. I used to perform horse stunts every day in a show. One of them was to jump off the horse while it was charging at a full canter. If you know what you are doing, it is reasonably safe. But it still scared the crap out of me each time. And each time I would psych myself up by singing a bad ass tune to myself to make me feel a little tougher. It helped a lot.
    My song was War Pigs.

  9. Sure! But I have my doubts that when the US government said "lets go in there and stop chemical weapons" they were saying "Lets aid heart eating rebels". And as far as I know, they would get antsy if the rebels were using chemical weapons too.

  10. My understanding is that the US government wants to perform strikes to discourage the use of chemical weapons... am I wrong? If that is the case, then it is not the people fighting in the civil war that are the protectees, but rather the innocent bystanders and civilians who are trying to stay out of the fighting, but would get hurt or killed by chemical weapons.

  11. Another thing to consider is the timing of your meals.
When you are not eating, or eating small... LIGHT snacks, your body is in its fight and flight mode. Your caveman you is out there hunting/gathering, and is ready to chase down a gazelle or run from a lion. Your body is not worried about building up, repairing, breeding, etc etc. Your insulin levels are low, and as a result you do not build up as much fat. EDIT: You also burn up fat as an energy reserve more readily. When you eat a meal, your body starts going into the rest and digest mode. Your body repairs itself (including repairing muscle damage that results from hitting the weights) and your insulin levels rise to cope with the added carbs, thereby increasing fat levels. If the meal is big enough, you can get post-prandial somnolence: Your body is saying 'Oh! BIG meal, eh? Guess I have time to sleep then and do all the repairs I need..' thus sushi and turkey coma.
If you do away with a big breakfast, and stick to just a few SMALL snacks during the day, then hit the gym, or do your workout before dinner, and eat fairly soon after, you will find your body is burning off fat faster. Again, make sure you are getting all the nutritional requirements your body needs, don't over eat, and most importantly get exercise. And stay away from shit food and drinks. I would lay off even fruit juice. It has a lot of fructose, which will add to body fat. Eat the fruit instead.

A: Most training jumps will transfer. Please contact our School for further information.

***The math is dead simple: Calories consumed > calories used means weight gain. Calories consumed < calories used means weight loss. Eat less, exercise more. And try to make the food you eat healthy, because you will be eating less.

Actually the maths is NOT that simple.
It's true we are what we consume .vs. what we expend
BUT calories are a shite simplification in the process.

Calories are 'estimated' based upon burning the substance in a Bomb-Calorimeter... we don't BURN food, we process it chemically.

1000calories of say paper would not have the same effect on our bodies as 1000calories of sugar which would not have the same effect on our bodies as 1000calories of Beef.

The calorie count is an INDICATION but it's not the whole story. Different foods are processed and effect our Blood Chemistry (and thus our bodies) in different ways.

Eat Less and Exercise more - Sure - that is the right thing to do
BUT be VERY aware of exactly what you eat and the Micro-Nutient make up of those foods.
Aye.. agreed :) As the last sentence of my post shows.

  15. I am faced with the same issue myself. I will get solo certified at my DZ, but I wont have enough time or money to finish the 15 more jumps I need for my A. Don't know how it works in the US, but in Canada, once you become solo certified, you pay your first dues and become a member of the CSPA (the Canuck version of the USPA), which grants you the ability to jump solo anywhere in Canada. Of course, there is also currency... most DZs will require you to have a certain level of currency or they may ask you to take a refresher course of some kind. And some DZ's require folks who are not their students to have an A.
