  1. Okay so it's just past 5:30. Got home early and finished off that older bottle in the fridge. Do I open another? Sometimes you just gotta indulge.
  2. I do know some events (ZTeam for one) that were supposed to be held at ZHills were moved elsewhere due to this conflict so yes it has affected the number of jumpers visiting.
  3. Because it won't stop raining in the Pacific Northwet!
  4. It won't be warm though! Bring your thermals but enjoy!
  5. Me too but I'm working on it! Sure wish I had invested in some tunnel time 8 years ago.
  6. No, they actually said there is nothing on it from the manufacturer. It's Lazboy furniture actually.
  7. So I'm finally at that point in my like where I will actually buy new furniture that is designed to last a good 20 years or more. They are offering to spray it with silicone as a protectant for a fee. Kind of like scotch guarding it I guess. Should I pay for this service or just by the scotch guard cans? Anyone had this done and was it worth it?
  8. If you feel you need to avoid turns in order to make it back, just do a simple 90 toggle turn and then an opposite turn. Much better than not and more likely to catch an issue than not doing anything at all. Me, I almost always do a flare as soon as I'm open. I may not do any toggle turns but I do a full flare which I believe accomplishes the same goal of controlability check. After all I can do harness turns if needed but I haven't figured out how to do a harness flare yet
  9. I do believe it is still an event at Nationals.
  10. Hence the carryon only mode. It's in your sight at all times and you can prevent people from doing things like that by informing and educating them when needed.
  11. Or just put it in a bag, and let security run it through without saying anything. Much less hassle involved and 99% of the time they will not ask a single question.
  12. I've heard of car trunks only, not inside the car. But then again can't give you any places and dates so I suppose it could just be folklore, although I doubt it.
  13. Either way, do not put an AAD in any vehicle without turning it off, for more reasons that just this
  14. Temperature and pressure changes due to an enclosed vehicle sitting in the sun and the sudden release of the pressure when the trunk is opened.
  15. What did he do to your rig that pissed you off? I'm not getting it. Are you upset because he just picked it up, maybe moving it out of the way or trying to figure out who it belonged to?
  16. Please re-read your original post talking about a trunk smell and asking if this was a good idea. Did you really want advice or to debate the matter? If you're set on transferring your rig in your trunk unprotected, then go for it... It's not our rig to jump or replace. Heck for that matter, if you have one, leave the AAD turned on when you throw it in the trunk. please re-read who wrote what. :) PS. I leave the AAD on when i put my stuff in the trunk. Obviously the trunk is clean of sharp objects and any kind of chemicals. You really do not want to leave the AAD on when in the trunk. The pressure build up can and will cause it to fire. Plus you are draining your batteries on the drive home when it has to adjust for the altitude changes.
  17. Of course the rental policy trumps all the legalities. Certain dzs do not allow those renting to pack the rentals, only the dz's packers can. I would check with the rental office and see what they allow.
  18. At your level I think most would tell you no, wait a couple hundred jumps to consider it. My personal opinion if why do you even need to listen to music? You are skydiving! Is that not enough of a stimulus? I love skydiving. I don't want something taking away my focus on it. Plus I think it's an unnecessary distraction. But to each their own.
  19. Good points but I still wouldn't recommend them. I know quite a few others who wouldn't either, if you had a choice. Personal preference. Used ZPs might be harder to find but they are out there if you take the time to look, as I'm sure you know
  20. In case you missed it, he said he was recommended against the Manta because it was F111. We are talking about F111 as mains not reserves. F111 main is not a good idea, at least I would never recommend one for a skydiving rig. A reserve is completely different. My previous comment was talking about the main. I don't think an F111 main is a good choice to purchase for personal use, especially when there are so many other, better options out there. You comments are all talking about the reserves. I wasn't. Missed points both ways I guess.
  21. Update here: http://www.p3skydiving.com/
  22. F111's flare like shit after a couple hunderd jumps. I know, my first canopy was a PD170. There is a reason most modern mains are NOT F111. Why would you buy a main that would be ragged out for flaring after a couple hundred jumps? I expect my mains to last at least 2000 jumps, whether or not I have them that long. You cannot compare mains to reserves when a reserve is only going to have max of 25 jumps. That is if you have to use it every repack cycle which is highly unlikely. You also cannot compare skydiving mains to base mains. For one thing base rigs are huge compared to skydiving mains which negates some of the crappy flare factor. You can't compare a 280 or large base rig to a more common skydiving main size of around 150. Huge flaring differences.
  23. As far as I know, Strong still does require a cutaway. I did mine with an intentional system a local jump had made for him. Granted it doesn't prepare you for the real thing but is still better than nothing.
  24. Surely in an ideal world, just not the one I live in..... Electronic systems do fail, true, they just fail way more rarely than humain beings.... That doesn't mean that an audible should replace situation awareness, simply that audible are an important safety device, like it or not.... Not for me. I wear hearing aids. Since they are digital they also muffle sound above certain decibles so as not to damage the hearing I have left. Since the audibles are so LOUD my hearing aids muffle any alarms and I do not hear them in freefall. I can hear them under canopy but that sort of defeats the purpose.
