  1. I just want to resurrect this thread. I'm planning a trip to the US later this year for 6 months and want to do as much jumping as possible - it's the reason I'm going. Any other DZ's you guys know of that offer season passes? Everything else is just noise...
  2. Hi guys, So, ZPX has been on the market for a while now and I'm thinking of getting a ZPX Pilot as part of my first rig. I was just wondering what the general feeling is about this fabric and these canopies? I haven't seen any specific reviews - if there are please point me in their direction. Thanks. Everything else is just noise...
  3. Hi guys, I just need a bit of advice. I'm backpacking through the US for a couple of months towards the end of the year and would like to get as much jumping in as possible (would like to spend a couple of weeks at a time at different drop zones and therefore will be spending a lot of money on rentals). Instead I was thinking about picking up a rig, either used or by using one of the demo programs at certain DZs. I was just wondering if there is a way to transport a rig between the major drop zones (Perris, Eloy, Sebastian, Deland etc.) by using a courier service or something similar? Due to the nature of my trip I won't be able to transport a rig with me. Or do you think it would just be better to bite the bullet and rent a rig while I'm there? Everything else is just noise...
  4. Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it. I contacted Mirage and they said that the Pilot 210 ZPX and PD Optimum 193 would fit into a M5 without a problem... Everything else is just noise...
  5. This post might be on a bit off topic but didn't want to start a completely new thread with a similar topic. I am looking to buy my first rig - new. Yes, I am also one of those idiots that buys a new car instead of getting it used. I like to KNOW where my equipment has been. I just wanted to run this by more experienced jumpers to see if my logic is correct... I only recently got my A-licence (28 jumps) and have an exit weight of around 185. By the time a new rig gets to me I'll probably have 60 or more jumps. I was thinking of getting a Mirage M5 container with a PD Optimum 193 reserve and a Pilot 210 ZPX main. This means that I could potentially downsize to Pilot 168 after a couple hundred jumps. Don't think that I'll ever be a swooper, and don't know if I'll ever downsize beyond a Pilot 168. In the event that I do I could buy a new rig to accommodate any future downsizes and then use the M5 as a dedicated wingsuit rig. My two main questions are whether I'll get the Pilot 210 ZPX into the M5 with the PD 193 reserve and if it would be possible to use the M5 as a dedicated wingsuit rig in the future? Hope this all makes sense, please forgive any ignorance and feel free to educate me. Everything else is just noise...
  6. If I understand correctly the primary reason for using an AAD is a last ditch attempt to save your life if you are unable to pull for yourself (being unconscious). If this is the case it seems likely that in this situation you wouldn't be in the normal belly to earth position but you'd be rather unstable and that would therefore increase the risk of your reserve not opening in time. Would this not be an argument for a slightly higher activation altitude? As for a loss of altitude awareness aren't there other solutions such as an audible altimeter that should be your backup rather than an AAD? This obviously excludes the AFF-I instructor chasing a student scenario and in that case being somewhat altitude aware. Please forgive any ignorance on my part due to inexperience, just trying to organize all this in my own mind... Everything else is just noise...
  7. Firstly, thanks for all the videos! They are awesome and I really appreciate the effort. And although a little off topic I would also love to know what the hell happened with skysystems C6 helmet? Haven't seen anything about it, and after all the hype it's a little disappointing not to be getting some info.... Skysystems felt the helmet wasn't ready for primetime, and therefore declined to be interviewed. Ok, fair enough. Hopefully we'll find out something more in the coming days... Thanks again for the videos! Everything else is just noise...
  8. My story is a bit similar to yours. I did a tandem 3 or so years ago, and although I thought it was pretty cool I wasn't instantly hooked. A couple of months ago I got the whole "skydiving thing" stuck in my head again and decided to go give it another shot. Did AFF at the end of January and I've just completed my A-license. I love it! I can't get enough and I'm at the DZ every weekend. I'm really glad I came back and gave it another try. As mentioned above AFF is a completely different beast compared to tandem. That's my pretty long winded way of telling you to go for it! If you don't enjoy your first AFF jump then maybe it's not for you. But maybe you do... Everything else is just noise...
