  1. I want to say come to South Africa but I am not sure if we have any rules against home built canopies. i think not as long as container and reserve are TSO'd. Also most DZ's are not 7 days a week though. Flights are going to be your main expense. More expensive than a European trip. 16 pounds for a jump ticket
  2. FYI a pilot 7 207 in lpv pack to 425 cu. inch a pilot 210 in zp is 465 cu. inch a pilot 188 in zp is 440 cu. inch The 207 in lpv is going to be very small in a 210 system. Even just in zp the 7 cell will pack up similar 188 due to less fabric and lines. Remember the pilot 7 is mainly aimed at wingsuiters but it can also allow you get to a larger canopy into a small rig but don't skimp on reserve size. As to flying styles I don't have enough jumps on my 137 pilot 7 to compare in detail to my 140 pilot. Pilot 7 has a slightly steeper trim and at my wingloading (~1.3) its responsive with lighter front riser pressure than the pilot.
  3. Lowers the risk of snagging the excess or sticking you hand through when grabbing the brakes. This would result in a knotted steering line
  4. Sounds crazy The inflation pressure must be pretty good to be able to have a forward arm sweep I can only imagine exiting an aircraft with that much un-inflated fabric
  5. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeaKaAcimVK28_72QMuW3jvRY7F-pbtkw Youtube playlist showing the development Been ongoing for over 2 years
  6. What is the goal of these very large surface area suits? My thinking is that you would be using a fairly thick airfoil and going for minimum decent rate. Are you able to fly the suit cleanly with other wingsuiters or is it having to be collapsed?
  7. Our local farmer Mc Nasty says the shadow of our plane scares his chickens (which are inside a coop) because they think the shadow is from a hawk. He could not explain why the shadow of a cloud would not do the same. Our pilot was also accused of low flying over his dam to scare the children swimming, the resulting photos showed a sightseeing microlight pilot...
  8. Firstly i would not recommend buying a new ZP.exe I was not even awear PS were still making these, not listed on their website. Many jumpers in SA use them before progressing to better/newer/more exciting designs but i have never heard of anyone buying one new, they are older generation canopies. trim - they are trimmed steeper than most square 9 cells. Noticeably more than a pilot for example. planform - if there is any taper it is minor, they are very rectangular My main issue with the ZP.exe is its stability in any sort of turbulence. The canopy likes to concertina, lots of span-wise expansion and contraction. This is much more pronounced than other canopies which makes it easy to spot a ZP compared to other canopies when a bunch of people are landing. PS. i would not recommend exceeding 1:1 WL for a jumper with 50 jumps. Similarly few people would recommend new gear at 50 jumps experience either unless money is not an issue.
  9. As was send on the previous reply 1 - the grommets most definitely do not need to line up. Maybe on some rigs but most likely on a system with an undersize main. 2- the pin orientation is not a fixed thing. As I mostly wingsuit i like the pin positioned so it slides downwards easily, the "smiley face" to the left because extraction forces are towards the bottom of the container have a chat to your packing "instructor" about this. it seems they were teaching very specifically to one rig and how they like to pack. Watch some other people at your DZ pack their sport rigs
  10. Look at the ATC instead Do some jumps on a suit size in between before dropping your $1700+ It sounds like you can fly your swift well, what about steep and have you had it in some spins? I went from a P3>Freak1>Freak2 after more than 120 jumps on the P3. I should have got an ATC
  11. How about adding a question the above answers relate too... For what its worth I was well over 200 jumps before i got myself an action camera. I did one jump with one around 200 jumps but at the time the added gear seemed like a hassle to me. My countries rules require the following for camera jumps although these i suspect are often not all followed. - Equivalent of a B-licence in FS - Hook knife - Audible Strongly recommended is a cutaway system (widely used) on the helmet and making the camera snag resistant. The last one is very important IMO and mostly ignored because its much better to have to cut away your whole helmet than prevent the snag in the first place....
  12. Interesting, the thought of a total from 525ft is rather terrifying What sort of reserve system are most SL military jumpers using now? It sounds like its going to be spring loaded reserve PC and a round. Is 300ft a realistic deployment height for this sort of system? Base gear can open in very little altitude and i guess if your choice is a very hard reserve opening or death we would all take the first one.
  13. Any chance of showing some performance/ppc style flying in an upcoming video? Higher glide ratio as well as higher speed stuff
  14. My reply below from an earlier thread Volt is similar to a saber 2. Steeper trim than a pilot with a more positive flare I have a 135 vortex made after the recall last year. It replaced my old 170 vortex 2. I was however disappointed in the new vortex for the following reasons - weight, it's heavy compared to other rigs - bulky, the 135 rig is as big as my old 170. This is due to the added padding and the construction of the new vortex. In comparison a similar size icon and vector are smaller and more comfortable The price of the vortex is attractive though and I bought it after winning a discount. Recommend getting hands on with one

  16. You should be able to find the information you want here for most canopies http://www.unitedparachutetechnologies.com/PDF/CHART_00037___Rig_Sizing_Chart.pdf I3 takes up a a 135 normal smart so that is a PD126 or OPT143 I3 take up to a 140 Zp canopy so that is ~ Crossfire 139
  17. I have been jumping pilots since around jump 40 188>168>150>140 Majority of my jumps are on the 168 (1.1 WL ) and then the 140 (1.3 WL) I agree with other posters that the stopping power is right at the bottom of the toggle stroke. Occasionally when I have a shitty landing I need to slide its usually from not getting a deep enough flare. I am fairly athletic and definetly run out stuff that other people wouldn't so I think I have been getting by with longer toggles than is optimal. Holding toggles in full deep brakes will only bring on a stall after a few seconds. I have been doing 90 front riser turns and any shorter on the brake lines I think the tail deformation during the turn will start becoming an issue so I am not changing them. That said the canopy can be landed with significantly less brake input from a well executed turn so I can totally understand the higher wing loadings giving a better flare. I have only a few jumps on steeper trimmed elliptical canopies but they are definitely easier to flare and land than the pilots with less input required to plan out and shut down.
  18. It is good to be safety conscious but you will probably be fine. Lots of students are put through rental gear that is not a great fit. My recommendation, jump it till you find a good deal on better fitting 2nd hand gear or you buy your own new stuff. 45 jumps is earlier than most people buy gear, nothing stopping you looking for something better while getting dirk/grass stains on the older gear (Most people take a while to get landings dialed in). Buying new is expensive until you are a size you plan to use for years. Depends on your financial situation though. It took me 3 years of jumping and a number of down sizes till i got a custom container.
  19. See post by Saly in the below thread on the Poland incident Exact same thing, he included multiple images http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=4848327;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25;#4848497
  20. I know aerodyne says it can be jumped with a wingsuit but when you get line twists it won't be fun Have not jumped the Zulu but it is elliptical and that usually means diving line twists
  21. Brand name skate shoes - got to look cool at the DZ even if you have no skills - slide nicely on faster landings - fairly cushioned for when you need to run out a landing - fill up booties well
  22. Which helmet? Rev2 and Aero have manufacturer installed cutaway systems and bonehead sells GoPro brackets for these but it is bolt on and you reply on the helmet cutaway
