  1. We were told you can go through but you have to decide whether to go through or go back depending on the situation but that going through will always result in at least one cutaway. Can you tell what lines people are using before you collide?
  2. [reply[ Have you yet covered canopy collisions, wraps and entanglements in your EP training? Yeh. I was taught that if it's unavoidable get big (spread arms n legs).Communicate with each other (if you're on the bottom read out altitude to guy in wrap, let him know if his canopy is good etc). Figure out if some1 needs to chop, wait for OK b4 chopping if you do. Make decision whether or not to disconnect RSL. Only other situation I can think of for disconnecting the RSL is if you're landing in water. If the canopy sinks you'll have to cutaway from it and you don't want your reserve coming out if that happens. I can't think of any other reason??
  3. Man u are misreading everything I'm saying.. I agree with everything you just said 100%.. Do you have an RSL that you cannot disconnect? If so, please describe the RSL connection [point, please. Not a RSL that CAN't be disconnected (do they even exist?). I meant you have the OPTION of disconnecting it. Let's say you had all the altitude you needed....what circumstances would prompt you to disconnect the RSL? I can't think of any, I would chop and pull reserve straight away, it;s what I've been trained to do. Trev, at this stage of the game for you, getting stable after a cutaway is just about the least of your worries. Heck, even old-timers do that....and die because they waited too long to get stable. In fact, some of them never did get stable before the crater happened. I don't disagree, I doubt this would ever change. Exactly. My original post was PRO RSL. I really don't know how you got the idea that I think people would be better off without one... I was posting it a question, the basic gist being "Wouldn't you b better off with one and have the option"
  4. I never meant it to sound as though the RSL is a primary means of deployment. We are trained to ALWAYS follow through the entire procedure regardless, as you said. There are some occasions we are trained to disconnect the RSL such as some canopy collisions or water landings etc. What I was trying to say is wouldn't you be better off with an RSL that you can disconnect if you feel you have enough altitude and feel you are better off to do so. If you don't have enough altitude to disconnect the RSL then you probably don't have enough altitude to get stable anyway. Kind of like better to have it and not need it than to need it an not have it. At the end of the day our DZ CI with 30 000+ jumps tells me to use an RSL, therefor I'm using an RSL.
  5. If you've got enough time to deploy in a 2 stage process rather than use RSL or Skyhook can't you just disconnect the RSL before chopping? If you don't have enough time to do this then wouldn't you probably be too low and better off taking your chances with the RSL? I am however new with fuck all jumps and completely clueless, this is just my understanding. Personally I use what ever the CI at my DZ tells me to. They have RSLs on all hire gear and their new gear has skyhooks. Local DZ rules require an RSL or skyhook + AAD fitted until a D license.
  6. Ahh perfect! Thanks for that, it's exactly what I'm planning to do.
  7. Is a full face not much quieter inside?
  8. Hi, Just wondering if anyone here uses the N3 Audio with an open face helmet. I know Alti-2 tells us that the N3A is only recommended for use with earbuds however I know a lot of people have installed motorbike helmet speakers inside some full face helmets and have been able to hear it perfectly fine. Just wondering if anyone has used a similar set up with an open face? I'm looking at a cookie ozone. Will I be forced to use earbuds? I was going to get a G3 but the CI and DZSO prefer if novices start off with open face (they say full face may dull senses for noobs). Thanks in advance.
  9. Ordered the tork speakers, if they don't do the trick then I'll just use em in bike helmet. Thanks all for the info.
  10. I had a set like that in my bike helmet. Worked OK but outside noise at speed made it hard to hear. I might try them and if it's no good I'll just use earbuds or even get moulded iplugz. That'd be great. I'm usually there most weekends if the weathers good :). Is your name Cam?
  11. Ahh awesome. Thanks, Ian.
  12. I'm looking at getting an N3 audible alti. Is anybody able to clarify something for me? The N3 audio requires earbuds for audio whereas the standard N3 does not as it has a speaker. Does the standard N3 still read "break off break off" "deploy deploy" and give you the option to read out 12,000ft 11,000ft etc as you decend or is that only available with the N3 audio? http://www.chutingstar.com/skydive/n3 http://www.chutingstar.com/skydive/n3-audio Has anyone been able to permanently mount a good quality speaker in their helmet for this purpose? I have some I use in my bike helmet but can't hear shit at 100km+ so pretty useless in freefall and I'd prefer speakers over earbuds that would be a nuisance and could fall out.
  13. Yeh I suppose so. That's what I do with all my other shit. Bikes, cars, computers - fork out big at the start so you don't have to worry about it again for years. Looking at Galaxy III, N3, G3 to get me started. Might be over the top for a novice but I won't be a novice forever. Get a jumpsuit and 2nd hand rig after I finish Brels, put a few hundred jumps on it then fork out for a downsized custom rig :D
  14. Thanks for the response guys. I do like the G3 but is it a bit of overkill for a novice? I see a lot of new guys on sportsbikes go out and buy full leathers with speed humps which serves no purpose on the road other than to look like a valentino wannabe to other riders.. Would it be a similar thing for me to rock up to the DZ with a G3 designed for professional jumpers? I'm looking at Gas vs G3 based on the following, in order: 1. protection 2. field of view 3. style / will I look like a try hard? Has anyone owned or jumped both? The GAS visor looks a little flimsy in the video, does it provide much impact protection compared to the G3? The being able to communicate to anyone walking in your landing path is a great point that I hadn't thought of and having the option of having the visor up or down would be nice. Again probably some silly questions but keep in mind I've never even tried on a full face so I'm pretty clueless. The DZ I jump at only stocks Benny's, most people have to order from the states to get a wider range of gear so it makes looking at the gear a little tricky . Probably over thinking all of this but I like to get as much info as possible before buying shit I plan on keeping for a long time :)
  15. NOTE: I'm a student so don't take my comment as advice. I'm a noob to skydiving so I'm basing this thought purely on physics - I would assume that your helmet would need to be pressurized for it to have an affect on the readings. I would think that any noticeable difference in air pressure inside and outside the helmet would require instrumentation far more sensitive than a skydiving alti. I could be wrong. NOTE: I'm a student so don't take my comment as advice.
  16. Hi guys, I've just completed my AFF jumps and have done a couple of solos. I've been using the DZ gear so far and I'm starting to shop around for my own but am unsure about a few things. Any advice from experienced jumpers would be greatly appreciated. 1. Open face or full face. Pros and cons? I like the wind on my face but I doubt I'd like a foot that much.. Is there anywhere online I can watch some reviews of some of the more popular helmets? I don't seem to be able to find anything on youtube. I'm looking at: Cookie Ozone (open face) Cookie Gas (full face) 2. Wrist alti or finger loop? I'm assuming this is just a matter of preference but I'd like to know if ones suited for different types of jumps or not. 3. Audible alti - Is an audible only a backup if you lose height awareness? I'm inexperienced, will I develop bad habits such as not looking at my wrist analog if I use an audible? Probably some dumb questions but any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
