  1. This already happens. Not sure what the arrangements usually are but I'd jump a bright pink "my little pony" canopy if some1 else paid for it :D
  2. Do we need to take into account the possibility of a two out situation when choosing reserve size? Or should we pick a conservative reserve and deal with a difficult two out if/when it happens? Or is having a big difference between main and reserve size not that big of a deal?
  3. ....When there is congestion on the highway we don't collectively speed up to avoid accidents, we collectively slow down. By your reasoning it would be safer to retrofit rockets to ourselves and go as fast as possible... Wouldn't it make sense to find some middle ground? a conservative WL range people are comfortable with?
  4. Isn't that like saying we should all drive faster on the highway when there's more traffic on the road?
  5. None! You are moving within an air mass which is called the wind if you are on the ground. It is only going to have an effect if you are not in the air mass and the air mass hits you. The relative wind you experience is from your movement within the air mass. Think about the boat in the water analogy This is what I thought when I read it at first. However wouldn't deployment be creating such a force that it would be like sticking an oar out into the current?

  7. Belly flying and RW (FS now) is the same thing. Just get an RW straight away but go second hand, you'll probably fuck a few landings at some point.
  8. Probs ask your instructors after jumps if you're fast or slow. I made the mistake of buying the first suit that would fit me and it was quite tight with a nylon front and at 195lbs I was falling quite fast. Sold it and got a looser fitting suit with polycotton instead of nylon. I didn't fully understand the importance of different materials etc at the time.
  9. I'm jumping a jav from '97 and an old raven reserve. main and cypress is 2012 though. Rigger says it's in good condition and perfectly fine. Just get it checked out before you hand over any cash.
  10. So just screw the whole damn thing right through the wristband then? Sounds easy enough! I thought you said screw it through the wristbone. Would be effective lol.
  11. I'm not disinterested but I don't go looking specifically for it. I do love reading the history when I come across it though.. One of my fav skydive radio episodes was the one with airtwardo telling stories of demo jumps back in the stone age.
  12. I'm reading a couple of Brian Germain's books. "The parachute and it's pilot" "transcending fear" I also read "Above all Else" but it's biography, not really for education.
  13. What is MORE interesting than skydiving?
  14. the tork speakers do work, when i first tested i didnt have them in the right spot. i can hear it perfectly.
  15. the tork speakers work great in my cookie ozone with n3a. no problems hearing it.
  16. I usually take an M-L in motorbike helmets. I ordered an XL cookie ozone based on their sizing chart and it was too small, I had to sell it and order an XXL which only just fits (had to burn new holes in the chin strap to extend it the shell itself was just big enough). There are some people who simply can't buy a cookie helmet cause none fit them. Their sizing chart is ridiculous.
  17. Sure am, it's the only DZ I've jumped at. Will venture out to other locations after I've got my B license Should come check out Moruya for the state championships next month (Oct 4-7). It's a bit of a trip but it's a great DZ.
  18. You're jumping at Picton :) That's where I did most of my B rels. Some awesome instructors there.
  19. How old r you? Do you wear glasses? lol jks ;) It really depends on the screen you're watching it on. If you were watching it on an old school TV or CRT monitor then there'd be no difference but when you start getting high res and/or large screens then it's noticeable. Note: I have no experience in skydiving videography, purley from a technical background.
  20. Sabre2 was one of the canopies I was told is a good choice for a first canopy. I'm jumping a sabre 2 190 @ 1.15 and I'm enjoying it. I can fuck up and it's not the end of the world. Might be a different story at a 1.4ish WL though... but wouldn't that be true for any canopy?
  21. Just have fun. I just finished mine and found the difficulty was not much greater than the earlier B rels it just takes a little longer between points. I did however find I had to put more work in on my fall rate as I think on the earlier B rels the instructor inadvertently helps you a bit too much by matching your natural fall rate. My instructors were pretty good explaining all the basic fundamentals of 4 way, I'm sure yours will too. It's nothing daunting.. just how to approach a formation, quadrants, what to do if you sink out etc. It's heaps of fun though, you'll love it.
  22. Not an instructor. but did a canopy course on sunday in which we were told cutting away is probably the best option (specially if highly loaded) but to practice rear riser landings up high and find your rear riser stall point in case it were to happen below your hard deck.
  23. Cookie's sizing chart is ridiculous. Go a size or 2 up from what you think. I've only ever taken a M-L for motorbike helmets and ordered an XL Ozone based on measurements. I had to sell it and get an XXL. Every other helmet manufacturer from all sports I've never taken more than an L.
  24. In Aus (at least at some of the DZ's I've been to) the student rigs are fitted with double RSL's, not sure if that's the correct term but basically pulling the reserve handle also cuts away your main. Obviously this is to prevent students performing out of sequence EP's however regular EP's are drilled regardless.
