  1. Well I don't plan on buying one just putting it out there for discussion. I figured putting the home base at the DZ would cover it as long as the DZ you're at has WIFI and willing to let you connect to it of course. Or maybe a DZ buys one and offers it to anyone with the receiver sewn in their equipment.
  2. I know this has been discussed before. However, I ran across this kickstarter project the other day and thought this might fit into the topic again. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1226890823/iota-never-lose-sight-of-whats-important Looks to be about twice the size of a quarter, with some good battery life, decent range, and also waterproof. I wonder if it could be sewn in somewhere to made functional on a canopy for locating equipment? Just some more food for thought. Whether or not it's a bad/good/or getting closer idea I'm not experienced enough to judge.

    Wings

Ordered my first container from them a couple months ago. Tony from Wings jumped through hoops to answer my numerous questions and emails about buying my first rig. Exceptional customer service. I haven't had a chance to jump it yet. I'm still downsizing into it. From a service stand point I can confirm they are awesome. I'm sure their product follows suit as well.
  4. Short footage from one of the jumpers on the load. http://youtu.be/G8ELtq2DwDU
  5. &_& Of course I can. I'll give it a go and see what all the fuss is about. There are many people who have tried skydiving and realized it's not for them. Stop being so sensitive.
  6. That video is intense. Certainly has made me think twice about ever trying base, and even getting into it in the future. I'll try it once eventually, but that's all I'll need.
  7. Wow you have the same exit weight as me and same progression as I am doing, but you're already on a 190? I'm still using a Nav 240 with only 46 jumps, and I've used the Nav 220 a handful of times. Your progression seems a bit aggressive if you take a glance at the chart. Until I stop over-shooting my targets by 50-150ft I don't plan on downsizing even though I have a complete rig with a pilot 210 sitting in my closet right now.
  8. I do. Not as much as I was told as a student. Usually do a quick input on the right and left toggle if traffic is clear, and then a quick flare.

  10. Must not of searched very hard. Here are a couple good threads discussing it. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4533011 http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2078118 I just got my quattro for xmas so I don't have a lot of experience with it. For what it's worth my settings are below, and may not be the best however I'm still experimenting. I set the first two alarms above my required take action altitudes. Figure it's easy for me to blow through a couple hundred feet by the time I react so I want the warning ahead of time to stop whatever I'm doing and react. Although I'm always pretty good at keeping altitude aware. 5,500 w/track guide on - turn to break off which I should be by 5,000 3,800 - stop tracking wave off and pitch by 3,500 2,300 - EPs at this warning 1,200 - last ditch effort to get fabric out Canopy alarms at: 900 600 300
  11. If you search the forum this topic is covered a lot. When I had 12 jumps I wondered as well and did some research on it. I wrote this article for medium about why we jump. I think it can speak for the majority of us. https://medium.com/i-m-h-o/14a70d0c4dc6
  12. Couple months ago I jumped a rental rig with an inherent right turn on it. Ended up being unequal riser lengths. One was shorter by a little bit. I think 1-2".
  13. No problem appreciate the help and input. I've got it under control though (for the most part) , and no I didn't pay the listed price for that. Thanks.
  14. I'm already aware of the details surrounding the use of one. I've been in contact with Tony from wings numerous times and already discussed it with him.
  15. I marked this listing as fraud earlier. http://www.dropzone.com/classifieds/Detailed/150493.html I have since resolved this issue. After 5-6 days of no contact the seller has finally sent me an email tonight with proof that the item has indeed been shipped. He apologized for the delayed confirmation. If someone could remove the ad from being marked as scam I would appreciate, and I'm sure he would too. Thanks
  16. I'm astounded that any college students can afford skydiving, especially enough of them to form a club. Wow. Good for you if you can make it work! College loans... College loans.? Thats some funny shit and the worst advice I, ve heard since a TM suggested it to a potential student. Do you understand the concept of cradle to beyond the grave debt that a cosigner of your loan will be stuck with after your dead. It, s a debt that even bankruptcy won't be able to erase. Some people used to think of their income tax overpayment as free money, now its been replaced by the student loan. R.I.P. debt that even declareing Dude get a grip. I wasn't giving advice merely replying Jeff. &_& I'm very much aware of what college loans are considering I have 5 years of them attached to my name. Thanks for the info though e-parent.

  18. Nice. To bad the site hasn't been updated since 2010. They actually have some tips for getting a club started at a school. http://collegeskydiving.com/club-help-pages USPA also has info on starting a club. http://www.uspa.org/GroupMembers/StartingaCollegeClub/tabid/304/Default.aspx
  19. Reads like ignorance to me. My alma mater, Purdue (boiler up!), had and still does have a skydiving club. They offered a nice little discount at the local DZ for 10% i think it was at the time. I now live in FL and the University of Florida has a skydiving club called the falling gators. They jump out of palatka, and they all have their own gear. So free gear rental for the club members of falling gators, as well as some other perks within the group. Keep fighting for it - if it you really want it.
  20. I'd like to append Skydive Palatka. It's not a big DZ like Deland, but it is an extremely friendly and great DZ to be at. Doesn't matter who you are there is always someone willing to jump with you despite your experience level. Very welcoming group of jumpers and staff. I personally have not been to Deland (yet), but I heard there is a lot of little cliques there. Just last weekend we had a girl come from Deland because she said no one there will jump with her, and the instructors/coaches won't pay attention to her if she's not paying them to jump. She had some where around 70 jumps, and she got on the first load with some jumpers to do RW and made RW loads all day with those people. Was she ugly? No she was actually pretty cute. I'm glad she started jumping at Palatka she seems to be really knowledgeable for such a low jump number. She jumped right in to help when one of our instructors had a quick session to show the flying gators how to dissemble 3 rings and clean their cutaway handles. She helped a few of the gator students, and AFF students that didn't know what to do while our S&TA was busy, but I digress.

  22. Understood and makes sense; I'll discuss it and see what instructors say about doing spirals. Maybe with a little more experience they are more comfortable with me doing them than when they initially told me not to - not that i'm overly experienced to begin with. Just doing what I'm told that's all. Last thing I want to do is piss the people off at the dropzone that run it. And the DZ's rigs are equipped with Vigil.
  23. Yeah, right. My response remains unchanged. You referred to my 8k hop and pop. Only time I've done a 8k hop and pop was during the canopy course so yes you're wrong. I don't see how you expect to know this without being at the drop one watching me... On the other hand yes I don't do spirals because of what my instructors tell me and because I didn't want to activate my AAD when its set to student. Now that people have said that's not the case I'll discuss it with my instructor and see what their opinion on it is now that I have more jumps than when they first said it awhile back. End of story.
  24. If the reason you have for not spiraling during an 8k H&P above the briefed cutoff altitude is because you think your AAD will fire, you don't understand your equipment. No. Its because I was doing a canopy course that required me to do certain skills to pass which did not include spiraling down. Please don't hijack the thread even more.
