    hey Rev-Jim

    your quote....
    "it's just what i do"....
    it belongs to Lee

    leave it alone

Hey, Kim. A quote is a quote is a quote. It's nice Lee used it, but I never met him, and was using it before he left us. I got it from a country song by Trick Pony, titled "It's just what I do". I use it since that song hits home for me.

I suppose now you are going to write them, accuse them of stealing Lee's quote, and threaten a lawsuit against them in Lee's name huh?

I will not sat what I would like to say. Ask me the same over on wreak.skydiving and see my reply.

Ya just have to rub it in, don't ya?
    Isn't this your honeymoon?
    If so, CONGRATS!

Me, I'm content with the Harvest Moon Boogie this coming weekend, and getting out of Wisconsin for it!

Being in Colorado is kinda a bit tough to get around on the boogie circuit. The WFFC is generally it for me unless something happens local here. My parents are 45 minutes away too so it eliminates the annual trek home to visit too. I may try to hit the HMB next year. I'd assume that some of the brothers would hook me up with a ride from the airport or what not.
This time next week I'll be sitting on the beaches of Maui trying to figure out how to abscond a rig and make a skydive...The bummer of the trip was the debate on bringing the two sets of scuba gear (Tracy's gear too) and my rig or just the scuba gear. Just the scuba gear won out. Didn't want to drag a bunch of crap through a couple airports.

Oh, yea, sure sucks to be you, huh? NOT

Well, you could always resort to "rental" gear...

I keep telling my fiance that I want kids for that fact, let them learn enough about the sport to really develope a love for it and tehn wham bam thank you ma'am, you have your own personal packing service

Yep! She watches me pack all the time. She's going to be learning as soon as she's tall enough to not have too much canopy dragging on the mat while Pro packing. She also knows she can do that to pay her way through training and gear purchases too!

Yeah, but don't you think that the leg strap placement could be atouch uncomfortable during deployment and the canopy ride?:D

    Yep. And that's a 14" harness....
She get's observer rides when she fits that harness, so she keeps wanting to put it on and check. I finally decided to take a picture of her after she put it on, and yes SHE put it on.

Your main lift web is 14" (average length for a waman) yours should be 16" to 17" assuming that you are 5'9" or so.
    Mick.
PS: its a vector 1 or 2 right?

    Yep, it's a Vector II.
OK, so it's a 14, so yep, that would make a 16 about perfect for me, even though I'm 6 feet tall. I'm all legs, and short thin torso.

    Thanks!

Now, is there any general guideline for yoke size too?

  7. One of my future skydivers here. No way I'm gonna let her be alone on the DZ from age 14-35!

Seriously, she gets so mad at me when I tell her she has to wait another 10 years to jump. I will not sign for her to start at 16, and she's only 8 now.

Oh well, she's Daddy's little girl, and will probably win me over in the next 8 years....

  8. OK, maybe I'm just dense today, but I'm still unsure of the measurement point. I got the tape in this picture started at the base of the ring/top of the webbing, but I'm unsure which point on the legstrap attachment to use. 12"? 14"? 16"?

My rigger did say it was tight, and another inch or 2 would make it perfect. Just making sure I get it right!

  9. Thanks, that helps quite a bit!

I know exactly what you mean about beware used gear sizes. I would be a prime example of that problem. I'm almost 6 feet tall, yet smaller womens rigs have fit me the best, with the exception of a tight yoke. I have a short torso, long legs, fairly wide shoulders, and only weigh about 150#. A rig that "fits a 6 foot person perfectly" would be extrememly big on me. (I know, I have eaten a chest strap or 2).

I just didn't know the proper methods for measuring the rigs. My present rig is too small, but I jump it anyway. After the harvest moon boogie, the main is going to PD for an overhaul, reserve will be due for a repack....what better time to look for a new container to put the stuff in?

Oh, and I prefer Mirage.... ;)

  10. There has been some good and some not so good info here, so I'll just add what I have done.

I've jumped mostly original early '90s Sabres, and the only hard openings I have had were on pack jobs not done by me, proceed at your own risk.

    This has worked on all of the ones I jumped, including a 210, a 190, a 170, a 150, and a 135 (my present canopy).

I propack basically like everyone else, except I have the line groups seperated over each shoulder while flaking. I flake the nose, and roll all 9 cells together one way, all the way up tight to the A lines. Stuff it between my legs, and flake the rest of the canopy. Quarter the slider, and switch the line groups onto just my left shoulder. I pull the tail up and around the lines, then stuff the nose all the way to the back of the pack job. I then pull the slider way out in front of where the nose should be. Next I roll the crap out of the tail, and I do mean tight! Coccoon, S fold, and stuff in the bag as normal.

This method has yet to snap me, twist me, or spin at all. Every opening has been nice and straight. The snatch force sits me upright, and I am able to look up and actually watch the canopy open 2 cells (1 right, 1 left) at a time.

As everyone said, each canopy is different, but this packjob has never failed me, with 7 different older Sabres, in 5 different sizes.

  11. Just a simple question or two for the riggers here.
    1. How do I accurately measure the main lift web of the rig I own? It is a small rig, and while looking for another used container, it would be nice to know my measurements for comparison.

    2. In direct relation to the above question, how/where would I measure my body to reveal my optimum main lift web size?

    Any help would be great!

I have to bid my vacation next week. I started skydiving after I bid my vacation this year and missed it. Never again....Anyone know when WFFC 2003 is.....Now if I can just get Mom and Dad let me borrow their new Newell Motor Home......They wont even let me drive their car. For some reason they don't trust me with their 900K toy....

Another factor in windy days is rotors coming off objects. Good rule of thumb is: For every 10 feet in height, turbulence will extend 100 feet from the object.

Yea, NO SHIT! Anyone here besides me jump at Rantoul, and land in the spectator area? HOLY SHIT! The turbulence coming off the hanger for the museum was un-freakin-believable!

I caught some of that turbulence but managed to glide through it without much trouble. Next year I think I'll come in on approach from a different angle and flat turn to avoid that building. Especially as hot as it was there were thermals, too.

Yea, I made it through without any trouble also. It was wicked though. Could have been really bad if I had been cross winding it.
I did think about setting up for final to land on the C130 bar, but figured I wanted to stay at the WFFC, not get kicked out....:o

Probably the same way I missed everyone that I did. Either met them and spaced it, or didn't track them down at all. If you were on the first DZ.com cluster dive, I was in the base until I got clock in the side of the head on exit.

Clay, I think, was in a couple of hybrids, but since he's too good to fly with us on our bellys, he wasn't on those attempts.

Shall we shoot for Saturday, October 12th, around 3:00 in the afternoon?? We don't need time for a bunch of attempts, 'cause we're gonna nail it the first time! :P

Sounds good. You all set a new record there Saturday, then come down to the Harvest Moon Boogie, and we'll break it.....
