  1. Wasnt sure what to expect when I went there. Would not hesitate to go again, it was awesome. I think you're gone already but Torchys Tacos does vegetarian IIRC.
  2. Yeah definitely not jumping until my knee is right. Just going crazy being grounded. Also mad that this came about while doing AFF. So I'll probably be a year between jumps and have to do the FJC again and IIRC start from scratch more or less.
  3. Just wondering what types of injuries have prevented others from skydiving? I currently have a tear in my right patellar tendon. Although not debilitating I feel it would be irresponsible to jump with as I was only on AFF L4 and haven't stood up a landing yet. I'll more than likely will have surgery on it and won't be able to jump until late summer/fall (yay FJC again...). Do who else in riding the same boat as I?
  4. Due to shitty weather I did some tunnel time last Monday as opposed to skydive. First thought after a week of recovering, 15 minutes was too much. I seriously thought both rotator cuffs were torn in some way. I had a good time and did good on what I set out to do (turn with control for AFF4), but altitude control was all over the place and trying to "get" what the instructor was trying to convey was hard as hell. Only had one real screw up where I flew back and up at the same time planning my feet against the wall and going into a stand up position. Was able to correct back into an arch before falling back into the instructor. Wait make that two screw ups, I reached for the door and subsequently slammed into the wall. All in all it was a great time and taught me a lot. Will definitely go back, but only for a 10 mine block.
  5. I'm only on L3 so take what I say with a grain of salt (goes without saying), but here is how things have gone with me. L1 - didn't register any altitude before wave off and pull. Pulled early 6k L2 - still haven't registered altitude during COA. Wave off and pull at correct altitude. L2 - (redone due to non-currency) was able to register and recall the first COA and turns. Locked on at 6k wave and pull at correct altitude. I'm not posting to give advice but share my experience. I have found that studying the altimeter and sectioning it off has helped me correctly identify what altitude I am doing things at in the instance I can't read it (I to have some less than stellar eyes). Taking to my instructors, learning to calm myself, register, and recall altitudes will increase with each jump. They have stressed that ensuring I pull, pull on time while completing the dive flow, and recalling their directions are more important.
  6. I've learned a lot lurking here and I'm doing AFF at San Marcos. Hope to see you around! -Kendall
  7. Thanks for the welcome all! They offer scholarships for a reason Yup in the AF. Yeah it's to the point I clear out the shop if I even mention skydiving. If I didn't have stuff to do the next couple weekends I would definitely be out there just taking everything in. She seems to be pretty happy about my skydiving... Thanks for the well wishes!
  8. Hi All! Spent the better part of a year lurking around here while in Korea and decided it was time to start the journey when I got back to the states. Did a tandem back in '09 at Eloy and told myself I would do it again. Fast forward to July '13 and did ground school at Skydive San Marcos. Didn't get to jump that day (Friday) due to the winds getting squirly. Came back Saturday and although I got to learn a lot from watching experienced jumpers and tandems coming down, clouds and wind kept me down again. Finally weather cooperated and Sunday I made the leap. I'm hooked, doesn't even begin to describe it. But the bank account is going to feel the hurt (for every dollar I spend on skydiving my wife gets a dollar for something she wants). Going back out this coming week for my L2 and hopefully L3 jumps. -Kendall
