By that logic, the Crossfire2, Omni, Safire2 and reserve canopies aren't Icarus canopies either! Not quite sure it's as simple as that...

Wait, so Ox and the Velda aren't Icarus canopies either?

  2. I sincerely want for nobody to get hurt, but after politely discussing the situation with anyone a few times, you've done what you can and it's up to him or her.

I'd check my wallet for a $10.00 bill and buy another name for Bounce Bingo. Calling Lonny Boetcher...

I hope that your friend does NOT hurt himself or anyone else.

Tim Allen offers a really excellent course in which he discusses why you shouldn't try that, and how to approach it if you feel that you really must.

If he isn't in your area, Bob Villa also offers an excellent course, though his is a bit more technical and difficult for the layman to follow.

Between the two, you shouldn't have any trouble finding a course in your area within the near future.

    Good luck.

honestly my point was that people need to listen more and talk less.

I disagree. Clearly, this person has a different opinion, be it right or wrong. Regardless, he has every right to say so. If you or anyone else disagree with his opinion, taking some time and trying to explain it in a way that he will understand just might go a long way. Insults and sarcasm are damaging, and at best useless.
If you can't do a better job of explaining the situation, and can only offer negative energy, then you might consider your own words..."...people need to listen more and talk less."

What did you accomplish? Do you think that you helped this individual understand the situation any better?

^ why is this thread back? ghey :|

Why do you care so much?
When I'm tired of a thread, I simply choose to not open it anymore. It's really easy, even easier than opening it is.

dude - dont come on to the boards and make yourself look stupid. brian germain happens to know a thing or two about what he's talking about. like enough to write a book.... and have it published ..... and have oh, i dont know, thousands of skydivers buy it. you have like 200+ jumps and what degree?

Why are you putting so much effort in to trying to make someone look foolish?
What's your degree? If you can offer something constructive, I'm sure that everyone's listening. Anyone can post sarcasm.

Calculate the wing loading now for the Contrail canopy you intend to jump.
If this figure is below 1.4 lbs/ft², the parachute will be relatively docile and easy to land. It will also have reduced penetration into the wind and reduced inflation pressure in the entire canopy. The profile will not be as rigid as it should be. A figure below 1.4 lbs/ft² is as dangerous as a figure above 2.3 lbs/ft²!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Will it be docile or dangerous at a wingloading of 1.4 lbs per square foot? The manufacturer says both, in the same paragraph.

    Cobalt Dan,

Can you offer an informed opinion regarding the general spirit of the statement as it refers to canopies in general, to your canopies, or to any other canopy that you are familiar with?

  9. Pond Boy #1,

It isn't required that you have your A license to participate in Scott's course, but I'm fairly sure that being cleared to self-supervise is a requirement.

I'm only bringing this up because it sounds like you haven't made your graduation hop 'n pop yet, and if this is correct, then you might want to chech with Scott and confirm for certain that you will be able to participate.

If it isn't then I am scared of you. If some part of you doesn't enjoy the danger then how can you have respect for it?

    Please explain that logic.

Though I've never had a loaded gun pointed at my head, I'm reasonably certain that I would not enjoy it. Still, I respect the danger present in having a loaded gun pointed at one's head.

I'll choose, to the best of my ability, to never have a loaded gun pointed at my head.

it'sd the danger element that atracts us in the 1st place therefore I agree with the quote

I'm sure that you didn't mean to speak for us all.
The danger element was probably the biggest reason that I put off doing it for as long as I did.
In fact, the danger element is the reason why I don't ride motorcycles or BASE jump. And before anyone begins throwing statistics at me, understand that to me, these other activities aren't worth the risk whatever the statistics may be. Just a personal thing.

I skydive because I enjoy the experience of skydiving.

I think Howard's coming. If he doesn't, I'm going to draft up another incident report for him.

So, nobody's coming to watch me blow Jay's record out of the water with my PS143? Hey, I'll even stand it up on the other side of the pond :P

  13. I've been interpreting Derek's posts as, "Raise the bar in this way", not as a personal attack on any person or group of people.

Why are some of you sinking this to such a negative and personal level.

Lighten up...unless I'm misinterpreting your posts, and you're in fact having some fun with Derek. In that case, I'll just eat a donut. Maybe I'll call Ashley.

  14. This is a good rough number, though you will want to check with the hosting DZ beforehand.
Jump prices vary, and some jumps may be hop 'n pops while others may be from full altitude (for purposes of separation).
There may also be a registration fee required to reserve your slot. Often times, this fee is used to cover Scott's travel expenses.

    OK, I'll shut up!

    Call ahead and have fun!

    Stay safe,
    Mike

Reading through this thread it's hard for me not to get the impression that the death game people just don't have the communication skills or sense of responsibility that you'd think would go with a 'safety' attitude towards skydiving.

It seems they've got a lot to learn and are recognising their own deficiencies through Veter who is probably just their latest 'scape goat'.

Interesting perspective from someone who walked in to the theater about six months in to the movie.

This is the point that it has reached because of the inability of one to consider that maybe, dozens of people who have been in this sport for years and decades more than himself see a pattern and direction to his behavior that he does not.

I understand your feelings, but you need to understand that this issue didn't begin two days before the original Death Game post.

  17. From the incident report:

Beloved victim was reported missing by several close friends.

After weeks of search and rescue operations, the skydiving gear of young ****** ****** was recovered. Main and reserve canopies were both in an undeployed state, Cypres was turned off and dusty.

As the rig was pulled from the cobwebs of ****** ******'* locker at The Ranch, it was immediately apparent to the search and rescue team that the equipment of young ****** ****** had suffered an extensive period of inactivity.

Shortly thereafter, forensic DNA testing offered a breakthrough in discovering the whereabouts of young ****** ******. Pursuant to the lead obtained from the neglected gear, young ****** ****** was found in his home town of *******, **., urinating while sitting down, with a look of great shame on his face, and severe lacerations covering 80% of his body.
Upon close examination, these lacerations were found to resemble the shape of a clitoris.
Rescuers believe that due to extreme pussywhipping, young ****** ******had been stripped of all dignity.

His manhood was pronounced dead at the scene.

If Dave was warned and didnt listen, and only learned after hurting himself, why should he expect Veter_ to do anything different?

It's not that anyone should expect different behavior, it's that we hope for different behavior.

Dave may be pointing a finger, but he's pointing an even bigger finger at himself, offering his fuck-ups and injury as an example.

By the way, I'm really enjoying my coffee right now!
