  1. The Red Devils did a 7.something time out of a Skyvan.
  2. In the UK we have an 8-way Speed star FS comp every year. Does anyone know what the fastest time a star has been built in either in the UK or abroad? Also is there any video of speed star stuff online anywhere? Cheers, Simon
  3. One of the few to survive was Harry Ward from the UK. He knew when to quit. I recommend reading his fantastic book - The Yorkshire Birdman. Harry Ward also did a lot of work on the stable spread position (although he was not the first).
  4. Nice work James. I think it would have looked better when you were a blonde!
  5. Ok here is a variant and my question is, has it been done. Setup almost the same as a roll-over / McConkey. Put 1 set of deliberate backwards twists through your risers. So, droop the canopy down in front of you at linestretch. Hold the risers apart and jump forwards hard in a standup position through your lines. The parachute inflates behind you correcting the riser twist.
  6. You also need a license to buy the chemicals and they are dangerous when mixed together. When jetman flew he had people with buckets of water near him.

  8. My primary purpose for going to the event was to jump that object. Like the vast majority of jumpers, our priority was to jump for fun. Supporting Go-Fast drinks was a means to an end and they kindly paid for the event, fed me and allowed me to jump a top banana object. If you look at the workload I had to do supporting Go-Fast it was miniscule. It was a good deal I thought.
  9. Are you his mentor who was also at the event?
  10. In esscense a person came to the event with the 'intention' of pissing off the organisers by their actions and words. It was the management of the tower who eventually called a stop to the BASE jumping element of the event after a completely dissgraceful act on the part of the jumper. As to the name and exactly what they did, its not for me to say. Only the organisers, the mentor (who attended), the jumper or the management of the tower should pass comment. Aside from that issue, the event was successful with lots of jumps and a team of organisers doing their best to get us jumping as much as possible.
  11. Thanks for the tips folks. I have already started to weaken the velcro and I am getting some blanking strips.
  12. For me personally, if there is someone visiting in the area, they can put a post on a newsgroup. If they are newbies looking for a mentor, they can do likewise and then the assessment phase begins.
  13. I got this rig primarily for the canopy and will find a pin rig in the not too distant future. The rig will be used most for sub 3 second delays, definately not aerials or wingsuit. Is it true Tom that there are different grades of velcro strengthness? This work was done by my local rigger.
  14. I have just bought a second hand velcro rig and replaced all the hook velcro on the container. It seems extremely strong and I now think having chatted to a few people that it needs to be weakened. Does anyone have any tips for gauging how to do this and know what sort of resistance I should be looking for when it is weakened sufficiently?
  15. I won't forget you either. I was just getting into BASE then and Lee was kind to me in Deland. You are still missed and so are the other 11 who died in the same sport whom I have known.

    NEW rig (home made)

What did you jump off and how were you exits?
  17. The invitiations are out, who is going to KL?
  18. If God forbid I should die on a BASE jump, I want my name to go down on the list for 2 reasons: 1. So other people contemplating entering the sport can see the real dangers and not underestimate the seriousness of the risks. 2. So active BASE jumpers can learn from the mistakes of other people. This may lead them to change their technical practices, it may also lead those 'push the limit's the step back a little. I don't want my name to be there as a testiment 'no shit I want to be remembered'. I want the BASE fatality list to be a place where people decide if this sport is for them and where they can learn.
  19. Has anyone got them. I am heading out there shortly and it would be good to get those maps.
  20. What a nice jump I would love to do that!
  21. Nice work Douggs and Dan. Party on!
  22. There are several jumps in Mexico and France where you jump from the branches of a tree. To qualify as a true 'tree BASE jump' you have to land at approximately the same height as the base of the tree (i.e. where the trunk starts). I have heard that tree jumps have been done. The biggest 2 problems are branches getting in the way of a clear drop; and other big trees next to them. If they do not cause a problem to jumping then it iseasy peasy, all you have to do is climb it and find a nice exit point!
