  1. Cliff Notes version, please? Basically the video reinforces my previous post about the cost difference between hospital surgery and surgery centers. It is pretty short. I really do not disagree with anything the video states. He does mention one sentenced that is glossed over and is very important. Currently doctors are leaving their well established private practices and are being employed by hospitals in response to ACA. This drives the cost of healthcare UP significantly. I can explain if you want. As I mentioned previously, the ACA is not really about healthcare at all and it will only hasten its demise.
  2. Out of curiosity, what would that policy change be? Don There are many times in orthopaedics that I have to implant hardware into somebody. This could be plates, screws, or pins for fracture care. This could be a prosthesis for a joint replacement. There are special implants that you use for arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. If I have a Medicare patient that needs an implant, I am pretty much forced to perform that procedure in the hospital setting as opposed to a surgery center. The reason I am forced to do so is that Medicare does not reimburse the cost of the implant to a surgery center, but will reimburse the cost to the hospital. The margins are such that the surgery center will not be profitable if they had to eat the cost of the implant. Here is the kicker: Operating room charges to Medicare are about 4x the amount as surgery centers. If you have a total knee done at a hospital, the total cost will probably be around 80k. Total cost at a surgery center will be about 20k. If Medicare would reimburse implants to surgery centers like hospitals, the savings to the tax payer would be enormous. It really does not have much to do about saving money. IMO is has more to do about lobbying. Hence my previous comments that the political system is broken. The real solution is term limits.
  3. Don will answer tonight or tomorrow when I have more time.
  4. If you tally up all of the people who make their living off of the doctor/patient interaction, insurance companies, lawyers etc, it is no surprise. As a Veterinarian I treat my patients with the same medications, training, professionalism for much less, since I don't have to support a massive organization supposedly adding value to my services. +1000, exactly ; you hit part of the problem.
  5. + 1 I am surgeon and an owner of a medical practice. I pay for my own health insurance. I pay for over 100 employees health insurance. I also try to get paid by insurance companies. I am really not satisfied with any arrangement. I do not understand how there is an opinion that obama care is going to save any cost. Please ask yourself this question: How is a bill of mandates and oversight with 2500 pages that nobody really understands (ala Pelosi) going to cut the cost of health care? Obamacare has nothing to cutting the cost of health care, but IMO government power. I could come up with hundreds of billions of dollars (maybe a trillion) of savings to healthcare with one policy change in medicare. The oversight people in congress know about it, but it really is not about health care dollars, but lobbying. The whole political system is broken. The only real solution IMO is term limits. People used to go to DC to serve our country at their detriment. Now they go to serve at their benefit and the tax payers detriment.
  6. I think that means it's not the Post (and, by the way, a blog from the editorial page means it's opinion, and not necessarily fact -- it would need to be backed up with actual data) Wendy P. Not sure what you mean. The data comes from the congressional budget office data published today. Here is where you will find the data. http://www.cbo.gov/publication/43900 The cbo predicts a loss of 7 million from private insurance and an increase of Medicaid by 12 million people. If I read the data correctly the 11 net cost to the tax payer is estimated to be about 1.3 trillion dollars. I'm pretty confident in saying the actual results will be worse.
  7. +1, never owned a gun before, not really to interested. Went out and bought a 9mm just because I can ( right now ). Going out to the range today with my neighbor. Who knows maybe, maybe I will turn from a rather uninterested to NRA member soon
  8. Kevin, Maybe ask the same question under the German forums in dropzone.com. Include where you are stationed; they may be able to tell you where the nearest drop zone is located.
  9. Fort Collins Colorado has been ranked as the top places in America to live in national magazines. It also seems to fit most of your criteria. Winters can sometimes get a little cold, but it was in the 60s and a great jumping day yesterday! If you want a bigger city, you can look at Denver.
  10. I am an orthopaedic surgeon with a subspecialty in hand. I have sewn many tendons back together. In general, it takes 6 weeks for tendons to heal together. However, it can be up to 3 months for full unrestricted use depending on the situation. I am not your surgeon, and not offering advice, but general information. Your surgeon should tell you at the follow-up appt.
  11. Trevor, I use a N3A with helmet speakers insided of a cookie ozone helmet. The speakers rest on the padding inside the helmet. The speakers are essentially on my ear. I can hear the audible count down in freefall. I can also hear the audible tell me break and pull. See attached pic of my setup. Hope this helps.
  12. I use the n3 audible with the following speakers : http://www.amazon.com/Tork-Motorcycle-Helmet-Speakers-Control/dp/B004I6HOQA/ref=pd_sbs_auto_2 Sorry, do not know how to clickify. The speakers have Velcro on the back and rest on the padding directly against the ear. Can hear fine in freefall. I tried different speakers between padding and helmet and could not hear anything in freefall.
  13. For your solo jump, try to improve your belly skills. Try turning with your legs only. Try side-slides. Stuff that can help you with group jumps later. If you have time throw a flip or track in there. You will find that you have more time since you are not trying to pass a specific level. Most of all ENJOY and learn from every jump!
  14. Great video and editing. Like the choice of the song. A couple of people looked pretty young. Is there a minimum age where you are at? I might just be getting older. Thanks for sharing!
