  1. Page 43 here http://www.parachutes-de-france.net/upload/docs/100508061612-25-63-35-manuel-atom-legend-r.zip PdF risers have a stud within the 'loop' to which the grommet/ring 'lock' after installation. It'd be a bad idea to use these slinks in any other risers. If i were you i'd just get a set of new slinks. Weather is shit the whole of this week in the UK anyway, so is not like you'll miss on jumping
  2. You've got PdF slinks. They hook up differently, but many container manufacturers don't approve them to be used on their rigs.
  3. As mentioned when this same issue was brought up earlier, and the same piece of equipment was cited as an example, Yep, sorry, there were no replies when i started writing my post. There was a study a while ago that involved parachute opening shocks using soldiers as guinea pigs that surmised the highest shock that the human body can take without injury is 6kn and 12g or so. A later study focusing in fall arrest systems referencing these past tests can be found here http://www.hse.gov.uk/research/hsl_pdf/2003/hsl03-09.pdf It is possible to 'calibrate' the absorber to start ripping at a particular load of, let's say 8kn (most models are set to start deploying at between 2/4kn), and there are re-setable systems that could be adapted http://www.e-climb.net/en/12-schock-absorbers, but since as you said manufacturers already looked into it and i'm just a punter i'll default to them knowing more than me on the issue.
  4. That's not a bad idea. The risers themselves could have a rip-through energy absorbing section like found in climbing equipment, but then i guess it's the question if the occurrence is frequent enough for the manufacturers to take action and to justify the extra complication with our gear. http://www.petzl.com/en/pro/verticality/lanyards-and-energy-absorbers/energy-absorbing-lanyards/asapsorber P.S. To avoid 'misunderstandings', even a single occurrence would be enough in my book, as this is a devastating situation. The whole 'use Dacron', 'take care packing', etc. arguments apply, but some extra mitigating just-in-case's wouldn't go amiss.
  5. This may or may not be useful to you, but the SWL will usually be 20% of the minimum breaking load.
  6. Cool. Nice little video, and good skills
  7. Have you got that video hosted somewhere else? I'm trying to watch it, but that player won't work in my computer
  8. I had an Electra 190 with exactly the same damage. Apparently it is normal and nothing to worry.
  9. What i would really like, rather than sitting under canopy for an hour, would be PG type acro performance on a skydiving canopy.
  10. Oh my God! HIS CHOO LAIS WAS ANTYED!!! Ha, ha. Very good, indeed.
  11. I serve my country by keeping the streets clean of rubbish and paying taxes so they can be spent for people to go turkey-shooting in warm exotic middle east locations. I have the other week broken a nail while doing my duty for my country, and have also received the "employee of the month" award back in 2010. Yet last weekend i was refused entry at a fashionable club in the strip because i was wearing my Nike Air Max and hadn't shaved for a week, plus i admit it was a bit longer since i last had a shower, and my t-shirt said "Obama takes it up the ass". What was that all about? I expect preferential treatment and nothing less for all i'm doing for my country, and this unpatriotic, un-american outlet has let the country down for not allowing me my right to openly offend everybody else in the establishment. This wouldn't have happened under Reagan
  12. Lol! Awesome! You know the rules though, if there ain't video it didn't happen. Post it up so we punters can cry
  13. Not much more to say that hasn't been said already. Top canopy that deserves to be more popular than it is, and a bit of a cult connoisseur item. Those who join the club are never disappointed.
  14. Based on his drawings, photos and data, i come up with a t-off speed of just under 100km/h, and a drag of roughly 60lbs. Those engines have a combined power of just over 50lbf, so he can get fast enough for that wing to get lively for sure given a long enough runway. I don't think there's much chance of lobbing that out of a plane in Europe though. Maybe he could take it to one of those 'junk' days out in the desert?
  15. I wouldn't worry too much. I did some calculations with the data he provides on the wing, engines, etc. and the drag he'd be having at the speeds necessary to get enough lift for take-off is higher than the thrust he's got available. All said, even though that flying machine will never fly, he will still have enough speed and lift to go unstable and really hurt himself, so here is hoping for him seeing the light before it's too late.
  16. I'm reasonably certain neither the CCI nor the pilot would be too impressed with having somebody dangling by the feet out the door for half a mile I'll keep it in mind for when i get somewhere overseas though. Nice one
  17. That is hilarious! The big question is though, how did you get that past the CCI...
  18. The reason it is important to make the fig-8's progressively smaller, is so as to avoid having a bight of line hitching around another bight from lower down the bag causing a tension knot at worst, or excessive wear on the lines due to sawing/friction/melting. This danger is further increased if the brake lines aren't untwisted regularly to stop them behaving like horny snakes in a worm's hen party.
  19. Why would you think that? https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/268559_514098431943539_33111282_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/541058_514704615216254_427601303_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/734282_514707891882593_243516298_n.jpg
  20. Nice one. You may want to read this and research it a bit more before you spend too much money though http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tailplane BTW, how hot do those boots get?
  21. Hey JC. Not sure if the problem is my side or yours, but some of your videos on Vimeo play with the image reversed horizontally, as in the letters read back to front, and the colours seem like they are solarised. They are fine in YouTube Might be just my computer, or maybe all the partying from when i was young is catching up and making me see funny but i thought i'd let you know. Cracking video nevertheless, as always. Nice work.
  22. You are better off chatting with a rigger to be honest. Overstuffing a reserve doesn't sound like something compatible with a long healthy life...
  23. There you go. (Attachment below) The Tempo 150 packs to around 300cui upwards depending who you ask/where you look, so it'll be a tight fit if it fits at all. The main is probably less likely, but worth a try.
  24. Just a comment with regards the Benny. I see many people is happy with it, so i may be the odd one out, but just in case make sure you try one on to make sure it doesn't move in your head at all, in particular when lightly pulling it up. I tried mine at the shop and it was very tight, so i thought it was a good fit. But when on freefall the helmet slides up a notch and catches air inside, so the whole way down it feels like a pilot chute being dragged by the chin-strap... Not ideal and right distracting Also, the goggle channel doesn't quite work if you are thinking on using it. Along with the helmet shifting, the gap in the temples made by the goggles is big enough for them to catch air as well, and they get thrown all over your face. In the jump i tried it on, and i made sure the strap was well tight, i had to go all the way to opening altitude looking straight down to keep them in place. However, if it fits you right it could be a great helmet. Nice and quiet, strong, and reasonably comfy.
  25. Hi all. Looking into putting a rig together, and got on the pipeline an Electra 190. I read around and people reckons the Electra's pack volume is low due to the F111, but also because apparently PdF measures the canopies diferently. So the question for those of you who have/had/know this canopies, what sized container would work with the 190? Would it fit in a 170 container or be too lose on a 190? I checked manufacturer's pack volumes and it is roughly 15in bigger than 170's from other brands.
