  4. Finally looking to replace my 10+ year old camera jacket and suit. Decided on sticking with Tony suits as this is what I am used too. I would love to start sit flying tandem videos so the question is should I have them add the sit fly wing on the back? Never seen them in use so i was wondering if anybody had any experience with them? mostly used for tandems and fun jumping, but would not be surprised to find myself shooting FS again at some point.

    I like mine but I have found that of the 2 stabilisation modes the less stable one is the better, the more active stabilisation produces wobbling and ripples in the footage when in freefall.

    Footage quality is excellent.

    GPS tool is pretty cool but if you want data a Flysight is still heaps better.

    The editing software Sony made for it is a bit unstable.



    try slowing the shutter speed of the camera to get rid of the ripple. I use a neutral density filter in front of the lens. If it is "shutter roll" the filter will fix it.

  8. This is not being marketed as an action camera. The lack of image stabilization is an indicator. IMO this is designed to be mounted to something very stable with limited space available, maybe 360 video or specialty "matrix" type shots.

    If you fancy something different some time, I've now added a Blow Switch to my list of products available...



    I have used blow switches in the past, jumping from 18k all day can leave me a little winded blowing all the time. besides my wife would prefer I practice my tongue switch not a blow switch :P

    Ah, I wasn't. Didn't realise that's what you meant. Thought you meant the fixed right angle routing of the cable once it comes out your mouth.

    The right angle actual switch so it is like a T but on its side? If that's the case, that's not going to happen. That's Conceptus' design. I'm afraid if that's what you want, as Conceptus already make it, use a Conceptus!

    I've had my N3 do lots of funky stuff. One time it went to 2500 ft when I was at 1000 ft and proceeded to go down to 1000 ft at roughly freefall speed.

    If you want something that won't glitch out on you, use an analog altimeter.



    And if an analog did "glitch" unless you were staring at it at the time, how would you know? analogs can be inaccurate also. Just saying nothing is perfect

    Looks like the X3000 is loose inside the waterproof case. Stick some felt fabric or something soft to tighten up the fit so it doesn't have any play. I think that's why there's some wobble during freefall.



    I had used tape when I first got sony asv cameras and had no success getting rid of the background jello. The wobble in freefall is generally not due to camera fitment. It has to do with exposure settings. I have had asv100 asv200 and az1, they all do the same thing. After inserting a 2 f/stop gel inside the lens cover all jello effect is gone.

    Lots of "jello" in the background on the second video... Much more than in the first one.
    I had similar issues with Sony AZ1 with stabilization turned ON.
    Currently, on AS200, "jello" is almost non-existant, with or without stabilization.
    Was anything different on this jump?



    going by the sell sheet the as200 has a 3x image stabilization, compared to the az1 which is 1x

    Got someone. Thanks for the interest. There may be more test switches at a later point, we'll see.

    if you need someone to test out the sony multi port I gladly volunteer. Hoping the right angle switch happens soon.

    At the moment, I don't make a right angle at the switch end of things, so wouldn't be able to modify one just now unfortunately. All my right angles are in the connector.

    This is because:
    i) I don't have the bits to make a right angle at the switch end at the moment
    ii) I've not done any testing to find suitable raw parts to make a decent right angle at the switch end; and
    iii) originally when I started making switches it was a deliberate choice to not have right angle at the switch end, this was because I didn't want to presume which side of the helmet people route their switch from. Having a right angle with the way the actual switch part is made would restrict routing to it coming from one side only.

    However, the OP isn't the first person to comment saying they'd like the right angle up at the mouth, so I will look into what I can get and do to make it like that, and will potentially make this an option in the future, if I can make one that is acceptable in quality.



    not to nit pick but for reason 3, couldn't you just flip the switch over to get the switch to rout the other direction?? I have been waiting for you to come up with a Conceptus type tongue switch for a long time. Finally broke my first skyswitch recently. It last a good long time and lots of abuse.

    Am I the only TI bothered when I see a student harness with the "chest strap" below the belly button. This one, the leg straps are nearly horizontal as well.

    My very simple litmus test on adjustment is "Does it look like what would resemble a proper fitting sport harness?" Who the heck would want to jump a sport rig with the leg straps running horizontal and the chest strap at their belt line?

    It scares me!

    Of course one could simply refer to the UPT document on harness adjustment if in doubt. I don't understand how these guys were taught, or at some point convinced that this is proper.

    Guy on the right is an UPT examiner (or was at least when I worked with him). He was always very helpful and upfront when offering advice to newer TI's. Harness on the left looks a lot like how I see strong's harnessed.

    ***Wind tunnels are fantastic traing tools. But real skydiving is different since you are falling through the air ( pulled by gravity) vs. floating on an air stream ( wind tunnel). This means there are different dynamics of movment ( read into Newton's laws of physics).
    But most importantly besides flying skills a proper mental atidue towards skydiving/student operation is the most in order to film tandems!
    That comes from actual jumping!



    if it's so different how come tunnel instructors who never skydive before, then start skydiving and then are super good at free flying at <50 jumps?

    Also I wonder if your understanding of physics is low. As in both tunnel and sky force of gravity is down direction and force of air resistance is in up direction.

  25. get good on level video footage of the jump so you can see exactly what your body is doing in freefall. No matter how descriptive your JM is during debrief, there is always room for interpretation. IME debriefing with video has always proven to be leaps and bounds more helpful. Also what are the exact reasons they won't let you go? Poor Arch? Leg awareness? arm awareness? built in turn? start from there.
