  1. I think you should take the packing class sooner rather than later. Try to find one given by a rigger, where they explain the details of the workings of your rig. The more you know about how your gear works, the more comfortable you'll be using it. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  2. There are plenty of wingsuiters at Mile Hi. It seems like it's pretty common to see groups of 4-6 getting out of the otter. I'm still a newbie at it myself. Seems like it's mostly Phantoms and Havocs, but you see a larger suit every so often. It's a pretty good freefly scene too. A lot of the tunnel instructors come to jump at the dropzone and plenty of people are into it to one degree or another. I'm not entirely sure I can recall the last time I didn't see at least a couple of freefly groups on the otter. There's a lot of that going on there. I'm not aware of any other dropzones within a few hours of driving of Denver. There's one down in Canyon City that a lot of people like, but I want to say that's at least 4 hours drive from here. There used to be one in Boulder but they shut down due to owls or something. There also used to be one in Ft. Morgan, but they shut down as well. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  3. It'd be funny if I went to sea level on my conservatively loaded canopy and ended up breaking a femur there. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  4. Mile Hi in Longmont has fast planes and a huge landing area. The packing area is very nice. They don't fly Tuesdays or Wednesdays. I'm told landing here is pretty fast but I've never seen a visitor have a problem with it. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  5. It looks like most of them are launching out of Broomfield -- I was watching them take off while at lunch, yesterday. KLMO's runways are too small for most of those planes. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  6. Cool, perhaps we could all write them and see if there's something that could be done about the skydiving noise coming out of Kim Gibbs' mouth. Maybe they can declare the city a crazy-person-free-zone or something. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  7. Last couple years I've gone down to Eloy in the middle of winter. I'm leaning toward increasing the number of trips I make there -- it's not super expensive to get there, and it really is a nice place in the dead of winter. I'm also planning to hit Sebastian, FL this year. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  8. Funnily enough, a friend of mine works at Neon, which operates an otter out of the Boulder airport for atmospheric air sampling. They fly long hours in standard patterns around here, and some of the complaints in the suit about behaviors the Mile Hi pilots denied engaging in sound pretty similar to Neon's patterns. It would be funny if they were complaining about the wrong otter, all along. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  9. I got a variety of bruises all throughout AFF and coaching, including a couple that sound like what you're describing. Even on student gear, it stopped happening so much once I got used to the whole deployment process. I'm not entirely sure what exactly I changed -- if it was how I was fitting the leg straps, how I was flying the deployment, or what, but it did stop happening. After I got my own rig -- a Mirage with the extra leg strap padding, it stopped almost completely. I still get a small bruise on my arm every once in a while if I have a badly off-heading opening, but I never get them on my legs anymore. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  10. I jumped a rental Sabre 2 230 for a while, loading around 1.1 to 1. I never had any problems with end cell closure, although people loading it more lightly than me had apparently complained about that. That particular canopy had a history of hard openings, even when being packed by the Dropzone's packers. I wasn't the only one who noticed it. If you have that problem, you could talk to a rigger about doing a pocket slider or something. Every canopy is different, so it might not be a problem with yours. 11. Yeah, damn, I can open a beer bottle or crack a walnut with them, now! I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  12. I hear melting is popular in Arizona in August. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  13. O.o Wow! Congratulations! I think you've been talking about it for as long as I've been on the site, glad to see you finally got it! Are you guys planning on coming down south and jumping at Eloy this winter? I and a friend are planning a couple of winter skydiving trips to Arizona and Florida to try to beat the winter blues this year. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. 14. People do multiple hours in a day all the time. Sure, when they're used to it. I can do 20 minutes in a day without being too sore the next day. I might be able to pull off half an hour if I'm not doing anything strenuous. Much past that I won't be able to fly by the end of it. Admittedly I'm not in the greatest shape, but I'm pretty comfortable in the air now. I did 4 minute rotations last time I did 20 minutes in there, and was getting tired toward the end of it. I also did 10 minutes straight with no breaks down in Eloy and around the 8 minute mark my arms felt like they were going to fall off, and I was as sore for days afterward as the first time I ever flew in the tunnel. It was still fun trying it, though! The idea of doing an hour of anything that's actually work in there, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to do it. But different strokes for different folks and all that. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  15. I've heard of tunnel instructor courses that take about 15 hours. I'd think you'd be able to do most if not all the various freefly positions in 10 hours of training. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  16. Shave 'em off sometime and you'll find out real quick. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  17. I didn't want to be strapped to a dude, so I just went straight to AFF. No regrets. Someone offered me a free ride strapped to a dude this weekend, but man that shit's scary! I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  18. As the HHGTTG says, anyone who actually wants to be president should under no circumstances actually be allowed to be president. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  19. Yeah I'm drifting in my own thread. Bob doesn't seem to have a problem with one engine out. Or two, for that matter. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  20. Just go to Eloy AZ just south of Phoenix AZ off Interstate 10 headed south towards Tucson... they also have a rockin tunnel there too. http://www.dropzone.com/dropzone/Detailed/127.shtml Or their own website http://www.skydiveaz.com/experienced Doesn't it get up to about 8 million degrees there in July? Flying in that tunnel in the afternoon must be like flying in a blowtorch! Heh heh heh It IS really nice in December! I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  21. Ok, NEAT! Yeah, back prop looks scary but it looks like it'd be easy enough to clear it. I'll talk to the guy next time I see him. I'm not sure if he really wants to be taking the door off his plane, but it'd be a fun novelty jump. I'd also need to assemble a ground crew and find a decent spot I could land. There's a field we've launched balloon jumps from a couple times that would do nicely for that. It's not too hard to file a NOTAM, so it sounds pretty do-able. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  22. Yeah, it sounds like it's functional enough to do that. If the hard drive were completely inoperable, obviously it would be a lot more difficult. As long as you have something you can boot, you could potentially download a CD/DVD image to a thumb drive (or gopro memory card) and then burn the image from that location. If the hard drive is very unstable, that might be easier. Sounds like you're getting it back together pretty well. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  23. Not possible with the same computer? Not if its hard drive is boned right now. Also not if you replaced the hard drive and it currently has an empty hard drive with no OS on it. Pretty much all the methods of downloading and burning your own require the computer to be working well enough to actually download something. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  24. Cool, next time I run into him, I'll talk to him about it. I should be able to manage at least a couple of gopros! I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
  25. Hey All! I know a pilot who flies a Cessna Skymaster, and like every other pilot I've ever met, he seems to be quite keen on having me jump out of his plane. I've found a couple threads here that seem to indicate that it might be possible to do it safe(ish)ly. Does anyone have any direct experience with jumping out of that particular plane? Naturally my main concern is the back prop -- the plane has both a back and a front prop. If he can cut the rear one independently of the front one, I'd feel a lot more confident about doing a jump from it. Actually the least safe thing about flying with him might be getting IN to the plane, not out (just gotta remember to come from the side...) I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?
