Joe Pantoliano See? Once again, GK is well-versed in 80's pop culture! LOL! well, i'm more of a min-90s kinda kid. However, i've been so intrigued and wished i grew up during the 80's. Kinda like how some kids from the 80's wish they grew up in the 70's or 60's. been so interested that my dissertation paper was 80s culture and parallels to today's social media

Landing on your butt: risk vs likelihood?

Plus doesn't student "butt" landing (ie. sliding landing) promote "bad" habits? -

WOW! I just ain't got the words. How insightful for such a young knave! Young? He very recently made a reference to the plot of Lethal Weapon 2; A film released twenty-five years ago. I think he only pretends to be young. Well, in my defense I wrote a dissertation on 80's pop culture classics where my thesis was "Parallels Between 80's Pop Culture and Present Day 21st Century Social Media". Part of my research was watching movie classics such as the Lethal Weapon trilogy, Beverly Hills Cop, Miami Vice, etc.

I'm having an "I hate everything" day! Who's with me...
GooniesKid replied to GogglesnTeeth's topic in The Bonfire
Dude, i'm sorry for how you are feeling. I've wrecked my legs before snowboarding (i competed locally, not professionally, at several popular resorts). Been in a cast for several months and literally had to learn how to walk again. I get the challenges of being on crutches and getting around...so i can empathize. But i digress...I selected "Shut up and have a beer". meaning, I will shut up now and have a beer on your behalf. Hope you feel better and have a better day. -

I don't have a good answer for that. I've been to a place (a dive shop) where I've been treated very well, haven't spent a dime, received excellent, knowledgeable and friendly service for what I've inquired about and I've sent people their way just on that alone. I don't think money always has to be exchanged in order to be loyal. I know what I mean but I don't know if it's coming across as I'm intending... I get what you are saying. there's a local bar I frequent every Wednesday (when i'm in town). So it's gotten to the point where the bartenders, hostess, staff know my name. I would get 2 - 3 drinks, sliders, fries, or lobster rolls and call it a night. I'd also tip the final bill 30%. And I would do this for weeks, expecting no kickback or even asking for something extra. Then it happened, one day, the bartender would give me a complementary drink or complementary slider set. I don't always get free food or drinks but i built that rapport; know most of the veteran staff by first name, what they do after work, etc.

For me, it's not about the number of purchases but about building a rapport with a local business But what can I do as a 'customer' to build rapport other than purchase goods and smile? There are many ways actually. The local gear store at my home DZ is staff by a wide range of jumpers; from straight from aff to local bad-ass sky gods. So what I do is i'd ask about the sport, ask if i can get on some jumps, who to contact for various disciplines, offer to split tunnel time, or just offer to buy beer at the end of the day. Note: this is over a period of time not just in 1 day. also, you have to go into this genuinely and not expecting any kickback. Do it cuz you are really interested and want to be part of the community.

No. I am simply correct. There is no pedantry in it. It IS disposable income. Negative. You inferred that all on your own. Which I hope you understand is completely irrelevant to the discussion. The $60 in free services you requested is how other people make their living. Just as you worked hard for your $7000 in disposable income, these people are also working hard. Your working hard does not supersede their working hard. It is, obviously in my opinion, that it is improper to ask other people to work hard for you for free. Some people might disagree with that, but I think it's a douchy thing to do. WHY? Because people ask me to work for free quite a bit. I'm sorry, but my efforts and time aren't free. It's disrespectful of the knowledge I have and the services I provide. It's something the people asking me to do for free can't even begin to do for themselves, yet they've valued my knowledge and time at nothing. Sorry, but you will not now, nor ever, get any sympathy from me over this issue. Well you've obviously got an axe to grind, maybe you work for this company or the lady is your partner/friend. Your last response tells me that you've completely missed my point, the one I specifically pointed out, that I was not asking a rigger to do this for free. I was asking the corporate company with whom I spent a large sum of money to cover the cost of a reserve pack in return for my loyalty. I honestly didn't think that was an unreasonable request. In any other business, asking for a 0.85% discount wouldn't be classed as unreasonable. In skydiving it seems it is. Loyalty isn't something that should be bought. Like respect and trust it should be earned. I agree that respect and trust SHOULD be earned. Loyalty, however, CAN be bought. Example, (hypothetically speaking) a company can pay (alot of money) for mercenary services for protection. Those mercenaries are loyal to that company in the interest of money. If i were running for class president and i was being paid (alot of money) by special interest group to make a stand on said special interest group issue then i have been effectively "loyal" to that special interest group because my "loyalty" was bought out. I'm not saying any of these things happen in the real world but theoretically it can. That just makes you a sell out. wait,,referring to specifically me as a sell out? or are you referring to the word "you" as in "those that engage in those kinds of activity of buying loyalty"? I was just trying to use hypothetical examples to illustrate the point.
