  2. Glad to hear your rig made it with you safe and sound.... I've read horror stories about people who checked thir rig and never saw it again. Good luck finding some place to jump!! Blue skies _________________________________ ...Don't Get Elimated!!
  3. I haven't had one in nearly six months.... But I can't wait to get back home for some beer and skydiving, or skydiving then beer. _________________________________ ...Don't Get Elimated!!
  4. Careful, 'wingload' IS a mathematical calculation, in the SIM, that we all jump by. Section 4C. I hope you mean; 'downsizing' (a canopy) needs to be 'discussed' with someone of experience, and their ability to see you in the flesh. I would believe Chaw is working on handling characteristics on demo gear, more than wingload. Chaw, help me out, clarify your post. . It's not perfectly linear because a highly loaded large canopy isn't anywhere near as dangerous and fast as a highly loaded small canopy. The difference is smaller parachutes don't have the drag from the added thickness as they aren't proportional that way. I could've also added that the benefit of asking the instructors is that they'll point you in the right direction in terms of what type of parachute to consider as well as what size to jump but I thought that might be obvious. I didn't think you guys would get wrapped around the downsizing axle. _________________________________ ...Don't Get Elimated!!
  5. A squirrel walks up to a tree and says "I forgot to store acorns for winter and now I am dead." Ha! It is funny because the squirrel gets dead (the talking dog, Dug, from The movie up) random.... _________________________________ ...Don't Get Elimated!!
  6. The only thing I've learned from other countries is never drink the water there... Joking!! Actually I was taught an early age to learn from other peoples mistakes on the football field. Luckily I figured out how to apply that other things too. Not everybody was told that, then again not everybody was benched for being a skinny lil runt, so where some people had things easy early on they didn't learn things that would be helpful later in life. _________________________________ ...Don't Get Elimated!!
  7. Whoops! Haha!! Guess I just like to share... _________________________________ ...Don't Get Elimated!!
  8. Lieutenant Dan.... Ice cream!! Sorry... That's just what this thread reminded me of. _________________________________ ...Don't Get Elimated!!

  10. I'm totally new too, but I think we're gonna go right back to suggesting you ask instructors the demo question in person idea. Wingloading isn't a perfectly linear pounds per square foot formula and it needs to be decided by someone with experience and the ability to see you perform in the flesh. I hope you have fun at the boogie!! _________________________________ ...Don't Get Elimated!!
  11. Here's a totally decent dictionary, though one or things are old: http://www.skydiving.org.vt.edu/goodstuff/dictionary.htm#menu_top Check out the Beer Rules tab too, on the top left of the page.... Funny stuff. _________________________________ ...Don't Get Elimated!!
  12. +1... I took the online BG course from Afghanistan, actually mostly watched the recorded sessions, and I can't wait to put some of it to use. You can say what you want about it but I know I learned a lot mentally even though I haven't had a chance to jump yet. Looking forward to taking another course in person. _________________________________ ...Don't Get Elimated!!
  13. I love it. It's my home DZ so, yeah, I'm a little bit biased but in all honesty it's a great place to learn and if you haven't jumped at a small DZ in a while you owe to yourself to come have a completely relaxed and fun jump or two. There are two Cessnas's for days when flying both can be justified. 90% of the hanger is carpeted and shaded for packing and relaxing and there are plenty of restaurants and gas stations just a couple of miles away.
  14. I had never heard of it until now but I think I'll check it out. _________________________________ ...Don't Get Elimated!!
  15. Keep reading, learning and asking questions. Some of your questions might seem off to some people in the beginning but just go with it. I'm not saying its ever too early to be learning stuff but trust that your instructor or instructors will guide you and keep you safe. _________________________________ ...Don't Get Elimated!!
  16. Ha!! That's funny... I would do it but I'm not experienced enough to be writing about my experiences. _________________________________ ...Don't Get Elimated!!
  17. Welcome!! Smile, breathe, have fun, enjoy. Definitely keep this thread going on your progress... It'll be awesome!! _________________________________ ...Don't Get Elimated!!
  18. Thanks dragon2... I understand what you're saying and I'm sure you're right. The way I did I think I was safe because I didn't wind any brake line around my hands, more like a half turn pointed down. It could've been worse though because I hadn't read to let it up slowly and just a little bit at that time. You guessed it too,the Skymaster 200 on one attempt and the Sabre2 190 on the other were apparently detuned for student use and wouldn't stall which is probably a good thing. _________________________________ ...Don't Get Elimated!!
  19. That's what hungry newbies like me are for, right? Checking on anything that isn't overly, abundantly clear and maybe clarifying for anyone else who isn't totally sure. I really want to try this and I think I might see why my prior attempts didn't work. Twice before, at altitude, I held the brakes down, down, down and even wrapped the toggles to get a little more out of the lines but still no total stall. So it could just be that I should have been a little more aggressive... _________________________________ ...Don't Get Elimated!!
  20. I honestly can't tell if you yourself would rather people learn a stall and recovery with toggles or rears. I get that rears are quicker, possibly scarier and recover in such a way that the wing might try to snatch the rears outta your hands but.... I'll try it with toggles first I think. _________________________________ ...Don't Get Elimated!!
  21. I reckon I'm one of them little fellers too but what can you do? Welcome back!! I hope you get everything sorted out and hopefully we'll see ya around. _________________________________ ...Don't Get Elimated!!
  22. Yep, you should definitely work out and stretch. If you wanna get a little bit of an idea just strap on a backpack with 20 lbs. in it then mimic crawling into a tight space, move around normally and sit in a seat or on a couch. You might look or feel retarded doing it but that's kinda what wearing a rig is like. It's not hard but being stronger will make all the movements you do that much less awkward. _________________________________ ...Don't Get Elimated!!
  23. I hope this one keeps going. Even old Joe wants it to happen. _________________________________ ...Don't Get Elimated!!
  24. I just bought some free fly pants that I'm planning to wear with whatever t-shirt I find first. I haven't jumped 'em yet because I'm in pretty much the worst place a skydiver could be, stuck in Afghanistan for the time being. I've seen people who consistently wear this every weekend and if it works for them... eh, I'll give it a try. Is it going to make a better freeflyer? No, definitely not since I'm barely a decent belly flyer but whatever. Hopefully I adapt _________________________________ ...Don't Get Elimated!!
  25. You can do it!! Advanced Free Fall, Static Line, Instructor Assisted Deployment... whatever, it's all good. Just don't ever get discouraged if you have to repeat a jump. No matter what student progression you choose there's a chance you'll get in a hurry or something and have to do a certain jump over again but no worries.
