I lived in metro Detroit for 19 years. While it is easier to point out all the negatives, there are some positives. Food - GREAT food there. With so many races/cultures living there you'll never get bored eating. Casinos, parks, lakes, rivers, museums, opera houses, all the major sports teams - not that they are great but the fans are awesome. The music scene is great, too. What hospitasl are you considering, or are considering you? Like others have said, there are good and bad points. Like everywhere you can get what you want out of a city. Yes, the winters suck!! One of the main reasons I left. Also, the local economy is driven by the automotive industry. The housing market is flat right now. Unemployment is high. There is and will always be an underlying "union mentality" in that city. Anyway, if you want more info send me a PM with specifics and I'll answer honestly.
