  1. I had the incredible pleasure (and intense stress) of putting Ray Wallace, a veteran of the 82nd Airborne's combat jump on D-Day, through a IAD first jump course. Words cannot describe my relief when he walked away from his landing. Here are a few links (unclickified cuz I'm lazy): http://www.wgal.com/video_legacy/16868283/index.html http://articles.lancasteronline.com/local/18/224430 http://articles.lancasteronline.com/local/4/224430
  2. George might have stopped by once or twice in the last 12 years. He's a legend for making his own parachutes & jumping them.
  3. Incorporate yourself as a business & think about moving some assets into your wife's or child's name.
  4. Make way for the freeflyers ....... !
  5. He caught the freebag & released it prior to landing & the main was still in the container (PC in tow -- careful how you pack those Lightning bridles ).
  6. Video from Maytown Sport Parachute Club's annual Fun Meet accuracy competition. Check out the guy shooting accuracy on his reserve (2:07). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K40m-xmNvj4
  7. Here's a pic of the 8 way team at 2006 Nationals. Buz is the shiny head in the middle.
  8. Buzz was a great guy. When he was working deep in some secret bunker in the Pentagon, he would record South Park episodes & show them to his men/women during lunch to keep them laughing. He was my team captain for a CRW team at the 2006 Nationals. Because of his love of Matt Parker & Trey Stone, during our practices I would call him "Dear Leader," after the Kim Jong Il character in Team America. The first time I used that phrase he just looked at me for a second & then busted out laughing.
  9. Be careful what you wish for... How about this one? Are there any experienced CRWDOGS without a cutaway on a CRW jump? I actually went for over 800 CRW jumps without a cutaway..... until this weekend. Of course, it involved a tension knot in the bridle that prevented deployment, so maybe that doesn't count. I'm kinda glad I couldn't get the main out. I was doing terminal when I fired the reserve. That woulda hurt. Never mind. I forgot about another cutaway I had on a CRW jump. Broken suspension line.
  10. Not bad. In the section dealing with wraps around a foot, I'd suggest also having the higher jumper twist 180 in their risers to relieve the tension of the lower canopy on the foot.
  11. http://www.omniskore.com/comp/2007/usnats/media/602_5.wmv I'm too lazy to make it clicky
  12. You missed the point. I was poking fun at Terry. He can't spell to save his life, but he can shoot photography.
  13. He's winning because his text is much better. I don't think Terry realized it was an essay writing contest.
  14. The shirtless tool is way up. Come on people, help a brother out! P.S. Fortunately T.R. is a much better jumper than he is a speller. Edited to correct spelling & to say that I too are a better jumper than a speler.
  15. You have the exact same attitude I had when I got into the sport. After 12+ years, my attitude is 180 degrees. This sport isn't for everybody & no one should do it unless they really, really want to. Aviation is a very hostile environment where you can and will get hurt or killed if you don't react appropriately in high stress situations. There was a young lady in Perris a couple of years ago who bounced when her AAD didn't fire (she set it at sea level). She was fully conscious in freefall and did nothing when she had a hard pull situation. Her reserve handle was in its pouch. She was apparently a very beautiful and bright person, but she had no business skydiving if she couldn't pull her reserve. Enjoy your passion for this sport, but don't minimize the risks. Mitigate them.
  16. Jump more often. The more you jump, the more relaxed you'll be.
  17. Could someone point me to some statistical studies that support this conclusion? I did a quick look at the NTSB accident page & for the last 10 years there have been 4,300 fatal accidents, 18 of them involving skydiving operations.
  18. You really have to worry if they DON'T pick on you.
  19. I think the thread should be retitled as "Cheapest divorce lawyer?" Seriously though, to be safe in this sport you need to stay current in this sport. That means money. If you're hell bent on jumping, go find a SL/IAD course. You'll pay roughly the same in the long run to get your A license, but the per jump cost is much less, especially if you fail an AFF level. You can also save on travel expenses.
  20. This is an excellent resource for new & experienced alike. http://crwdog.servebeer.com/CRWdog/Welcome.html Someone else can do the clicky.
  21. Hi Liz, My toad decided to do a freefall jump in Perris this weekend. Any other little toads looking for a home?
