  1. Thanks guys. Now, this E thread is what I should be using on jumpsuits, correct?
  2. Seems like everyone I ask at Michaels or Joanns doesn't know what "E" thread is... Can someone tell me how I can know if something is E thread? Or point me to a website that sells it...
  3. From sewing with my dual duty thread in a #14 needle last night, I'd have to agree. Not only was it struggling to fill the holes, but the thread was coming undone at the needle hole and bunching up. Kinda like skinning the thread down to a thinner size. I'll be getting some more needles today. I've read that a needle will last 12-20 hours of work.
  4. Got the machine today. Been playing with some seams and found the one I'd like to use on some freefly shorts I'm going to eventually make. Just practicing with the thread/needle it came with(unknown thread type/size and #14 needle) It seems to be doing a great job going through the layers of Supplex(Taslan) and Spandex. I'm wondering if I should even use the Dual Duty/#69/E thread with 110/18 needle for these shorts? I'll be getting the #18 needle tomorrow so I cant do some tests then. Hopefully it's not too large for the fabric... Attached is a picture of the seam. Turquoise = Spandex White = Taslan/Supplex One of the first projects I'll be doing is making a stash bag for my BASE rig. I've got ripstop nylon, but I read somewhere to use #12 needle on the stuff. But will the smaller thread hold up? Will #18 needle work on RS Nylon?
  5. In some of the earlier threads I searched before asking, councilman24 stated: "But stay away from the newer Singer 20u's and the cloans. They all seem to come from the same chinese factory, range in price from $500 to $900 new for exactly the same thing and often have quality problems. Older blue Singer 20Us were made in Japan. Those are worth buying. There are other better machines to choose from but some are hard to find used."
  6. Ok, Won the auction for the Necchi. Hopefully it does what I need it to do :] Thanks for all the info and help, guys! I'm sure I'll be back with questions!
  7. The necchi shows samples of it sewing through 8 layers of denim. I can't seem to find information about either of them, though. Trying to see if the Necchi has a low speed...it does have a better ad then the Viking. Seems I can trust it's working order better lol
  8. That Necchi ad says it will sew heavy fabrics with #16 needle, but apparently I need #18 for E thread, do you know if that machine with take a #18 needle? If so I'm going to buy that before the auction ends in 20 minutes!
  9. Its really the price point. I don't want to spend more then $200 on a machine right now.
  10. Looking to purchase my first sewing machine but don't want to spend an arm and a leg... I'll be making Stash/Gear bags, Backpacks, Jumpsuits, ect. So don't need anything super heavy duty. Just want it to last a few years. Can you recommend anything? EDIT: This is what I'm currently looking at. http://www.amazon.com/Brother-Feature-Rich-Built-In-Auto-Size-Buttonholes/dp/B000JQM1DE
  11. Of course they don't have "white" supplex in the selection box...lol Seems good for other colors, though. And that spandex world seems pretty steep on shipping cost... I'm gonna try and look around for some more affordable options before I have to lay down $50 for one yard of spandex that I need :| Thanks for the info!
  12. I've ordered some online already but all the stuff I keep getting doesn't seem to be what I'm looking for. So many variations of fabric that I just don't know exactly what's needed. Trying to make a fast falling freefly suit/pants/shorts with spandex parts for flexibility. The only fabric paragear has that I'm interested in is the mesh inner-liner. I'll try seattle fabrics.
  13. Where can I buy the supplex, curdura, and spandex that are used on jumpsuits? For personal sewing practice/future rigging benefits.
  14. Yes, a lot of people don't seem to notice it and the ones that do are told that they just don't know how to fly. When your legs move freely inside the pants this allows for fabric shifts on either side of the leg. When you have different variations of drag vs. weight distribution then it will create different flight characteristics and even instability. This is why people sometimes have to fly their suit cockeyed a bit in order for it to go straight. Again, you might not even realize it's doing it, or that you're flying cockeyed, but it's there. My solution for this problem was the cell design which is rather complex which is why I smacked myself in the head after seeing Squirrels simple solution :] This isn't about who thought of what, though. It's about sharing ideas that will help push our sport forward.

    Tracking

  16. I had originally thought of a celled tracking suit design which I sent to Matt G as an idea last year, but I love their simple solution to the problem with the velcro leg strap on the inside. Such a simple solution! Makes you smack yourself in the head and say, "Why didn't I think of that!?" The cell idea I had wasn't as refined as Tony's, though. My original sketch shows the cells stretching all the way from one side, across the back, and to the other side. http://i.imgur.com/0fiBfim.jpg ^I drew that about month after seeing the Mylar-reinforcement on the Colugo which I tried integrating on the suit. Found it's best to just sit back and let the professionals work :] Thank you Matt G for discussing some design properties with me and creating one sexy and practical suit! And thank you Tony for creating a suit design that I've been waiting for that will blow the performance of any other suit out there down the drain! Just wait for the next tracking race and you'll all see :P Of course it's bordering the line of wingsuit and tracking suit but it's no different then the Cruise, just more efficient :] Now the problem is saving for both suits :|
  17. I think the instructor usually provides the suit for the course, and if you do it at z-hills then there is a huge chance that it will be a wicked wingsuit you use. Think Robert Harris is offering the course there now.
  18. You ladies act like the person did this without the TI knowing. This was a stunt planned out by the entire group and then executed. There were no surprises and everything went exactly to plan. I'm betting there was plenty of ground AND air prep to make sure the drogue release system was going to hold and not deploy pre-maturely.
  19. From what I hear, the Aura turns just like a Vampire. From what I've experienced, the Colugo/Aura have crazy pressurization. That leg-wing holds air even if you blow it up and lay on that thing. Though, there is still no backfly inlets for the Squirrel that I know of yet...so if you're just going to be using it for skydiving, then go for the Tony. The Aura is built for Base/proxy in mind.
  20. Probably not safe due to entanglement problems. But it looks like they handled it perfectly. How about some tandem skyboarding with a guy carving head down around them?
  21. Vincent Descols mentions the Aura getting 3,1 glide. James Boole mentions 3,1 glide in the Apache fusion. Would be nice to have someone with experience with both to show more accurate data. Vincent used to fly an Apache, I'll shoot him a message.
  22. He found another way to fund the stunt, but due to wars and political BS he has to postpone it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAbWVVZrKm0
  23. Shhh!!! Don't take the work away from the Riggers! They got bills to pay too ;p
  24. That's like saying GSXR's suck because all the squids ride those. If you see something you like, then get it. Look at things in a neutral perspective. Don't let the influence of others effect your decision. Think outside the box, which means think outside your brain which is full of negativity. Why not hate on Tonfly? Everyone has those and they are almost twice as much as a LS suit. How about this, stop hating on a product and dislike the person(s) making them look bad instead? Back onto subject; I don't know how he will feel about another rockin his "trademark" but get in touch with Simon Bones.
