  1. Aha! Small world. When I saw your suit hanging though I thought it was a phoenix-fly but it looked a bit off. I was actually looking at this suit: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/detail_page.cgi?ID=131674 Size small and I love the colors. I wont be investing in one for awhile, still learning. I just like to build knowledge as I go so once I get there I'm not going in blind and my brain has had plenty of time to absorb the knowledge.
  2. As a student I'm attempting safe everything. And the only people behind students on the plane are tandems and wingsuit/trackers so I'm usually last out ;p
  3. Guess I'm just used to jumping out last and pulling the highest :P
  4. You can spot your landing on your base approach. Just look for the spot that isn't moving and follow it's radius to your side(to the landing spot) and turn in when its on target. If you're a bit high, do some S-turns. If you miss, it's not a huge deal. You've landed 10/13 jumps, thats WAY better then most. My buddy didn't get a stand up landing till his 20th jump. Got his A-license on the 25th. You can practice the approach and spotting at home on the computer if you play D3 BASE/Skydiving simulator. http://www.flokas.de/baseforum/viewforum.php?f=50&sid=b255bcad60856cf59985bfef483eb375 NOTE: It is a game and not super accurate but you can learn how to spot that special spot in first person view while playing it.
  5. The booties sound like a nicer touch. I'll have to ask around about it with some comparison. Whats the average cost for a suit? I just still wish Tony would make a tracking suit :[ ...it would help cause the darn manufacture is on my DZ! Edit: After watching that video again, I noticed the dude modeling the suit is the same dude I saw at the DZ last weekend with his tracking suit lol
  6. When I did my AFF, I saved for the solo package which gave me my first 9 jumps. Then I rented a trailer on the DZ for a week to complete the course. I had no tandems and I never even have been on a plane before. Day 1: Cat A - I was a little scared. Just went to robot mode and jumped out without thinking as much as I could. was terrifying at first...kicked a little...then I arched...which made everything wonderful. Day 2: Cat B - Very nervous, took me a couple hours before I worked myself up to manifest. Little more nervous on the plane. Jump was much nicer and I was anxious to do the next after landing. Cat C1 - Not as nervous. Anxious to jump again but I knew I had my first solo exit in 2 jumps so I didn't want my first to be the first of the day the next day...so I saved it. Day 3: Cat C2 - Nervous as heck. Took me a couple hours to manifest. On the plane I'm thinking to myself "Do I really wanna be doing this? I could just not jump...blah blah" Of course after doing it anxious to jump again. After opening I let out one of those victory yells. Cat D1 - Little nervous knowing it was gonna be my first solo exit. Got through it. Ready to jump again...no more loads though (Waited to long to manifest) Day 4: Cat D2 - Nervous as heck again. Wen't through the same crap on the plane telling myself I should stop or that this would be my last jump...blah blah. Landed anxious for the next :D Let out an ever louder victory yell after opening. Cat E1 - Little nervous, was gonna be first dive exit. Still asking myself the same questions on the plane...just went through it...ended up loving the dive exit much more. Couldn't wait to jump again. Cat E2 - Still nervous on plane but not very much this time. Did the jump. Did my flips. Landed. Greeted with my AFF Graduation certificate :] Day 5: Solo #1 - This was the most nervous out of all the days/jumps. I actually felt like I was going to puke. I kept making trips to the bathroom. It took me nearly 4-5 hours to finally work up the nuts to manifest. Was just a nervous wreck. But decided to finally do it. I paid for it, and I wasn't gonna let myself down. Told myself to just do it and I would be done. Went up, jumped. Had a blast. After opening I let out the loudest yell of joy/victory I have ever in my life. It's like the more nervous you are before the jump, the more exciting it is. Really accomplishing something, knowing you got through it(the plane ride). Landed. Grabbed my wallet and went straight back to manifest to by another ticket and got myself on the next load. Solo #2 - Not very nervous at all. Was much nicer. Jump wasn't that great though, (sneaky sneaky cloud making me pull at 8K :'[ ) So, we all get the feeling. It's all about consistency, though. Even if you have 500 jumps, if you stop jumped for a few months and come back, that first ride is gonna be a little scary. Just gotta keep reminding yourself of how nice it is once you are out of the plane. The plane ride is the challenge. The jump is the goal. Get yourself through it and enjoy flying :] Keep it current, and blue skies. -Josh
  7. I know I need 200 jumps to start flying a wingsuit, but is there a requirement on tracking suits? My SIM doesn't mention anything about it...I dont think *scratches head*
  8. This still remains one of my favorites: Cahors D'Oeuvre 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8B_Z-8FJ-Ik Also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEE8QQBuuYg
  9. I can't possibly think of any reason there would be a minimum requirement to wear a darn camera. It's strapped to the helmet, you hardly know it's there. Slap one on a first time jumper and it's not gonna make a lick of a difference because they are too busy worrying about other things. Maybe in the old days, but our technology has advanced and they make tiny and extremely lightweight cameras. It just might promote people to try and "be cool for the camera"...but again...too busy worrying about other things. Well...you get a "droppy" feeling. That's something different.
  10. All there is to do now is go back and try again! Maybe hit up a tunnel for a bit ;p
  11. (not sure if appropriate forum section) But, I just saw this and thought it was great! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkIRNICJE-Y This guy makes functional mini multi-celled canopies for his stuffed animals complete with container, risers, slider, steering toggles and all! He has made some tutorials on his channel showing how to make them. Could be good fun for the kids that are not yet old enough to skydive! Again, sorry if this is the wrong section ;p
  12. http://www.uspa.org/Portals/0/Downloads/Form_ALicenseProgandApp.pdf http://www.uspa.org/Portals/0/Downloads/Form_ALicenseProfandApp.pdf I don't see anything about needing a set number of coach jumps. It's just good to have, cause they are the ones that teach you everything you need to know for passing and obtaining your A license. So it's wise to do at least a few with a coach.
  13. thought it varied on your skill and progression in learning.
  14. Wooops! Ya I completely forgot about that...brain fart...talk about some memory loss... Completely forget about my previous statement! Anyways! Tim Minchin - Americans and Evolution http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7NL48kRH3A
  15. Move along, nothing to see here! Brain fart to the max!
  16. It's a little different then that though, cause with skydiving, it's only as much of a guaranteed risk as driving your car down the road. Like Rook Nelson said, "If you walk up to the road, look left, and look right, then cross, it can be a pretty safe sport." Whereas drugs/cigarettes do permanent damage every use. Not to mention the second hand smoke that kills 50,000 a year.
  17. I don't mind helping the people that really need it, but it's all the druggies and smokers that know the risk, and continue to be extremely unhealthy. It's these people I don't want to pay for. I'm rather..."ok" with this new system, just as long as they refuse continuous drug abusers and smokers. If you can afford drugs and cigarettes, then you can afford health insurance. Kind of how they have made it mandatory for people to take a drug tests applying for food stamps. If you can afford drugs you can afford food. Yet, people are pissed about this. Sometimes you gotta just let your kid touch the stove. If you hold there hand for too long then they wont know how to take care of themselves. Look at Paris Hilton, didn't even know how to tie a freakin shoe lace.
  18. When you sell your car and get a motorcycle so you can spend the money saved on insurance for jump tickets. ...did I say that out loud?
  19. Author's blurb, then. Who is the author? And what is the original source? It was a booklet from his former publishing agency. Article here. Wayback machine confirms, here as of 2007. Thank you for showing the sources and letting people know that I'm not a crazy conspirator lol
  20. Maybe there is something Nelson's not telling us?
  21. After the election of a President that failed to provide a legitimate birth certificate, and was recently discovered by an undercover agent that he was indeed, not born in the US, but born in Kenya, and nothing was even thought of it, I can honestly say that the people of America seem to not give a rats ars about the Constitution.
  22. I live in Pasco County. One of the top pill head counties in the US. These pill heads have horrid health problems from there drug addictions. These people also contribute nothing to society except for making the town dirty. I'm very glad that I get to pay for these peoples medical bills...
  23. Thanks for clarifying. I see the Guinness Books are bit inaccurate.
