  1. Another year gone by. We remember.
  2. Paul R. Maclean, USMC ret. NH state police ret, USPA D-320, all around great guy, has passed. When I met him around 1993, he had taken a layoff from jumping longer than I had been alive. He had come back to our little DZ in Maine to see about getting current. He had brought a rig along, an NB -6 I think. I don't know if he was planning on using it or just wanted to blow our minds. While he was there, some of us were gearing up, getting ready to go flail, and he looked at us and asked, "where are you reserves? aren't you gonna put on your reserves? All he knew was conventional gear. It wasn't long before he was current with new gear. He brought in a trailer and was doing camera jumps and a little organizing. He was great to be around, a wealth of knowledge, not just about jumping back in the bad old days, but about the world in general. He finally retired to the desert southwest a few years ago, but always came back to visit every summer. He will be missed.
  3. 12 years gone by. You are not forgotten.
  4. It may (or not) be helpful to reach out to former Bills O.T. Justin Cross and pick his brain. I know he earned a license back in the early '90's. Man, the dude FILLED the door of a 182.
  5. From what I understand, Nate was in it from the start, with Sanborn and Istel, before there was even an OSPC. He quite possibly could have had a single digit D, but he wanted D-69.
  6. Nate Pond, D-69, passed away at the age of 87 on November 3rd after a period of declining health. Imagine the changes to the sport this man was able to witness. There will be a service for him today, November 23 at the community church in Andover Vermont. There is talk of putting together a memorial event for him at OSPC in the spring of 2020.
  7. The hardest working man on the drop zone. I don't think he ever slept.
  8. I remember Howard owning a succession of Ford products. Trundling between Deland and Z-hills on I-4 the other day, creeping along in that perpetual parking lot that is Orlando, when a crimson Ford Explorer with Mass. plates went by me at ludicrous speed, all I could think to do was scream "Damn you Howard!... Blue skies old friend, you are missed, but never forgotten.

  10. I just skimmed the story, so I probably missed the part where Al Gore specifically takes responsibility... Don't worry about nuthin' cause nothin's gonna be okay.

  13. Leslie Jo Maerki, (A-27842). 9/27/56- 9/15/15. Skydiver, adventurer, dog lover, medical professional, friend, lover. Taken too soon. You will not be forgotten. Don't worry about nuthin' cause nothin's gonna be okay.

  15. Not quite. Chet was living in a camper during the summers at what was then Skydive Lebanon in Maine. We were on a weather hold when Bill Booth flew in from somewhere on his way home. Someone went to get Chet. Chet came down from his camper just as Bill walked over from his plane. They met right next to the manifest office. Bill greeted him and Chet replied, "oh Billy, I feel terrible", then he collapsed in his arms. Booth looked at me, started to say something, and I took off running to the phone. (pre-cell phone days). We got him to the hospital in Rochester NH, where they lost him. Don't worry about nuthin' cause nothin's gonna be okay.
  16. So will a cross country in SNE in Maine if you miscalculate the uppers. (Ask me how I know). Don't worry about nuthin' cause nothin's gonna be okay.
  17. I made my first flight on United in late 1959. I've flown United more than any other airline. It has been some time ago, but United was bought by the employees ( buy-out led by a jumper ). They have been going downhill ever since. Too bad, at one time I considered them the best of the domestics. Jerry Baumchen Yeah, once upon a time. Nothing new here though. Last summer I was booked on United to Omaha prior to the annual great bike ride across Iowa. I was in the check in line - not even my turn to check in - when the woman behind the counter blew off the Indian couple she was waiting on to begin screaming at me, demanding to know where the hell I thought I was going? Turns out my flight had been cancelled. (and this is how they notify me?) the woman was pretty much openly hostile, and I would not have been surprised to hear the phrase "in your face white man" at the end of her tirade. Never did make it to Iowa, but I did have the time to do some much needed repair work on my barn. Oh yeah, 54 hours after her canipshin , I got a text notifying me that my flight was cancelled but I should proceed to the airport anyway for further instructions. Don't worry about nuthin' cause nothin's gonna be okay.
  18. So was Switzerland, yet they still shot at allied aircraft when they were blown of course. Don't worry about nuthin' cause nothin's gonna be okay.
  19. Dan Poynter is/was the anti-Christ. It's written on the wall of Dave Dewolf's loft bathroom. Don't worry about nuthin' cause nothin's gonna be okay.
  20. Michelle Carrier 1963-2013. Just a wuffo, but my wuffo. Has it really been three years? It seems like we just said good night. Always, me. Don't worry about nuthin' cause nothin's gonna be okay.
  21. Give Strong Enterprises a call, see if there are any geezers left lurking there whose brains you could pick. They used to make a "modern" rig for the PC. A friend of mine had one. The risers had L bar connectors and 3 ring releases. it might surprise you what's still in the warehouse. A few years ago I purchased a D-bag for mine from them. (it is not for sale) Don't worry about nuthin' cause nothin's gonna be okay.
  22. Regardless of the elections outcome, God help us all. Don't worry about nuthin' cause nothin's gonna be okay.
  23. A few years ago, I was at a boogie, we were doing a 36 way formation load, I was in the lead plane, a sky-van. My exit position was on the starboard corner of the ramp/tailgate. My position in the formation was just outside the base. On ready, set, go, the guy next to me launches sideways, instead of backwards, slamming me into the side of the plane. I brushed that off and flew to my slot. Little did I know the impact had popped the pin on my main. Fine fitting rig that it was, there was no indication anything was wrong. I flew the entire dive with an open main container. We broke at five grand, I tracked away and had a normal deployment, though the container felt a bit mushy when I pulled. There was a guy with a camera helmet docked on my leg. The L.O. asked him if he had seen who had the open container, since the dedicated video guys had all seen it, but didn't know who it was. The guy on my leg said no, but he would check his video. As Gomer Pyle would say, surprise, surprise, surprise. Don't worry about nuthin' cause nothin's gonna be okay.
