  1. I know this is early, but a lot of people want to get the dates on their calendar as soon as possible.

April 3 - 6, 2014 will cap an entire decade of wingsuiting fun at Skydive City in Zephyrhills, FL.

This year we will be enforcing a minimum number of wingsuit jumps depending on the group size. Smaller groups will still be available for learning the skills.

And speaking of learning, we will be running a skills camp in the days leading up to the event.

    More details later.

Come and join us at Skydive Wingsuit City!

  2. He over-rotated on the barrel roll. As he unintentionally came onto his back, his legs were likely open and uneven. That probably caused the flat spin. Jumping an S-Wing at 14 wingsuit jumps didn't help any either.

The reserve pilot chute hesitation could have been due to the slow post-cutaway speed and the burble of the larger suit, although there may have been a gear issue too. IMO it's best, during skydives at least, to minimize the burble during deployment by closing the arm and leg wings.

  3. Come fly with us at scenic Skydive City in beautiful Zephyrhills, Florida when TonySuits and Wicked Wingsuits present Flock and Dock 9.0!

  4. If you're getting ready for your trip to FND8, get ready for some of the most gorgeous weather ever. This entire week looks beautiful ... exactly the weather we all came here to Florida (and stay here) for. Low 80's during the day. mid 60's at night.

    Come git yer flock on!

  6. I've been off dz.com for a while (I've been busy) ... so I'd like to bring everyone up to speed on the event.

We have operated the event in the past along with Morpheus Technologies. Beginning with Flock and Dock 8.0, Tony Suits will be sponsoring the event and handling the logistics ... so expect some exciting changes!

TK placed some dates on the website that aren't exactly right. 3/29 - 4/1 is the main event. Anything before that is flock-at-will, as it often is.

We will be posting additional information soon.

  7. The Puerto Rico boogie is schedule for February 15 - 19, 2012 and will be back at the airport near Arecibo. Scott Callentine and I (Scott Bland) will be providing organizing services. Git yer arses down and enjoy the warm sunshine, beautiful scenery and great wingsuit dives!

  8. Speaking of coaching ... I've seen a huge uptick in people wanting to be wingsuit coached. I don't think that's a bad thing BUT ... I don't think that coaching is a replacement for experience.

Do your FFC, then make 20 or 50 wingsuit flights. Come back for a few coach dives, then make 20 or 50 more. Your most important skill will be to be comfortable in the air and in your suit.

And speaking of suits ... stop going big early ... it will do you more harm than good.

  9. Thanks to everyone for a bitchin' good time!! The winds got most of our Saturday and the loads started to back up on Sunday, but altogether I think everyone got as many jumps as they wanted to make.

Thanks for everyone putting up with my craziness ... I promise it will be worse next year!

    Muff! Muff!!

  10. No problem with flashing new firmware. I just did the Honeycomb hack to a nook color and added Marketplace with the Android SDK ... bitchin'!

I'm an engineer with Texas Instruments, so of course I'm wishing that you used the MSP430 or a Stellaris device ...:)
I'm looking through your C code ... you might add a "freefall detection" piece of code, like is used in audibles. Condition the tone generation based on that logical-and a new selection in the config file. Maybe a MUTE IN AIRPLANE 0,1 value.

Just an idea ... BTW, here's the Paralog interpreted data from the jump (attached). 131mph horizontal, 60 mph vertical sustained ... We can do better :)

  11. I switched the tone setting in the config file to 0 (horizontal speed). We were doing some maximum flight speed jumps ... I topped out at 131mph (horizontal, not total). I noticed an annoyance .... when the tone is set for glide ratio, the tone doesn't sound before exit, for the most part ... presumably because the a/c is in level flight. But the horizontal speed tone continuously sounds, indicating the a/c speed. Without the freefall noise, it's pretty loud and annoying. Is there anyway to enable the tone after exit?

  12. "Success" and "Record" have different meanings of course ... and we get to pick which meaning we want to use. On the 25-way verticals, I think success meant pretty. And even that depended on the angle of the camera. If we'd insisted on being pretty from the side AND the back at the same time, we'd have failed. If we'd insisted on the "must be held for 3 seconds" rule, we'd have failed. But for that one short moment, it was near perfect, and it was *cool*.

Lurch's long post pointed out how the definition of large formation success has evolved from "being in the same piece of sky" to "some grid-like thing". That's good I suppose. People want to judge themselves against some standard and get better. The standards have to be physically measurable and repeatable ... I'm not sure that's happened yet. If we'd all just take grips there would be no question about it ...

"Record" means there is some organization that recognizes your "Success" ... so far that means getting a photo in Parachutist ... and that's okay with me, as long as we have fun doing it.
