  1. Thats awesome, i've been trying to keep track of whats going on but the website doesnt give you much more info other than country names.

Is it a standard cf setup (retractable bridle/freepacked/tailpocket etc? Earlier in the thread someone was mentioning experimenting with different deployment methods, anything different?

  2. Hence why I was taught you ask people if they want pin checks. Just thought it cant be a bad idea, they take so little time, most of the time involve very minimal touching of another persons gear and insure your ready to leave when your getting in the plane regardless of circumstances. There was a pic in the mag of a 3 ring loop that had been caught worn through (i think in the plane), just figured finding stuff like this before you are in the air should be a priority. As always i know nothing and am merely curious.

  3. Why arent gear checks mandatory at US dropzones? I know a lot of people have their friends check them out but why isnt it in the rule book? (posted by a very ill informed foreign jumper - so apologies if i'm way off the mark)

  4. From the point of view of a less experienced jumper I think it would be selling students short to lower the reqs. in any way. The people who take short cuts to ratings arent the people I would have wanted to take me out of a plane the first time, regardless of if it was safe or not. There should be a good industry standard to offer a good level of customer value.

  5. Just noticed it happens at all the DZ's i've visited. Im also pretty sure i'd rather be loosely strapped to the TI on the off chance of an emergency than be a bit more comfortable. Seems kinda like the seatbelt argument, yes its an extra thing to do, digging around for one but at the end of the day, you dont want to be in a crash without one.

After thinking about it the TI might have been strapped on the bottom two hooks, just throwing it out there.

  6. Not to jump on the criticising wagon and I have both no tandem experience and very little overall experience so im probably talking utter nonsense but shouldnt the student be hooked up from TO? What would happen in an emergency exit situation?

    P.S quite a cool video

  7. In a lot of news reports concerning incidents you often hear how the local LE are examining the gear etc.

Do they have a rigger along for the ride who explains things to them and essentially is the person doing the investigation or do they really just poke it around trying to figure it out?

A rigger is often brought in later but initially (and i might be wrong here in my impression of such reports, or as is quite often the case they could be innacurate) the LE seem to get ahold of it first.

Whats the procedure for this kind of circumstance or does it vary with where you are?

  8. Anyone heard anything about this place?

    Jump ticket prices?

Whether their only open special times of the year?

    Anyone with experiences there?

    Aircraft?

How many jumps you can get in a day?

Safety record? (im not questioning it here, but i've heard a few things about this place and it seems too good to be true so thought it would be prudent to ask)

ETA: are there any licence requirements to jump there?

    What altitude do they get?

  9. But i thought this might be the best forum to ask.

I was wondering how BASE canopies/jumpers survive terminal openings when they're freepacked and yet CRW canopies can seriously hurt you at terminal? Is the nose on a BASE canopy not quite the same as a CRW one (although i would have thought it would be due to the desire for quick openings)? Or is it simply that BASE canopies tend to be mainly F111 and that reduces opening shock (?). (I have very little knowledge of CRW gear and even less of BASE set ups).

How come reserves dont have a "crw like" nose? As far as i know (which is very little) the only things done to make a reserve open fast is the slider and packing method. Incidently what does make a reserve open quickly?

Is there any way to freepack a crw canopy for terminal? (im talking short of modifying the canopy/sticking a bag on it etc.

I have a really basic knowledge of gear here but im interested in CRW and how the gear is different.

You can still buy a new Firelite. But is a 24 year old one appropriate to be your LAST CHANCE TO LIVE? (Yes, I say that alot;)) A tear drop that old, I don't know. I'd think for not much more money you can get a whole lot closer to current.

Look at all the things listed in previous posts and decide if its' worth the hassle. If the main and AAD are worth the price and you can essentially throw away the harness and reserve then maybe it's worth getting the good parts.

I'm not familiar with Tear Drops life limits but if it's 15 plus 5 is dead no matter what.

Thats more or less what the thread was about, whether something should be used thats that old. Im gonna ask the guy if he'll split it and if not i might buy it anyway and just get a different container and reserve.

    Thanks for the help guys

  11. Im in the UK and the kit is for sale in my local shop so getting someone with enough experience to check it out shouldnt be a problem.

I really only want the main (190 spectre) from it and the AAD, my budget can accomodate looking elsewhere for a better container/reserve so i might ask if he's willing to split it.

If it needs things such as extending the life/mods for service bulletins etc i might have to go elsewhere as i'd rather just buy something better that i wont have to mess around with.

ETA probably a VERY good idea to get a different reserve because whilst its still within my size range i dont really want to learn to fly a smaller canopy than usual after a mal.

  12. Haha yeah your post was the one i mentioned. As long as its with my exit weight it should be fine though? It has a cypres 2 already installed, so that should be ok.

Is jumping gear older than you generally a bad idea then B|?

P.S Is pullout the same as BOC or is it a ripcord system?

  13. Anyone had any experience on this container or reserve? They're both made in 88' and im thinking of buying them if they fit.

Anything i should be worried about/aware of? Are they suitable for a first rig? Im 150lbs exit weight and reserve is a 174 so i dont think w/l will be a problem (but feel free to correct me on that). Does the age matter?

Couldnt find anything in the gear section on either or the forum search (apart from a tiny bit on the firelite)
