  1. It's Byranada now not Camp Canada and that's slander. Us Byron boys are classing up the joint. Last year it was Lang apleanty. And while Lang may be no more we'll still be stocking with some of the finest brews available south of the Canadian border.
  2. Whatever it was I bet it was preceded by, "Here hold my beer"

  4. That is retarded. Why would anyone ever use roofies on a Canadian? They are the most accommodating nationality on the planet. Simply walk up to one and say, "Excuse me but I believe you are supposed to be passed out drunk in the back of my van." Chances are pretty good they’ll say “Sorry Eh” and then proceed to get drunk and pass out in the back of your van. It’s as if they are willing victims of the Jedi mind trick. This probably wont work on Americanized Canadians and is less likely to work on a French Canadians. But that’s OK because if they said yes you might never get the smell out of your upholstery.
  5. As if I'd miss out. My round trip to Kalispell has just been booked. July 24th through August 3rd (Because the boogie aint over till Monday!) 6. Not because I saw it as a smart investment but because I knew it would make you happy Mad John, I put down 5 perfectly real "in-the-hand" dollars on Lottery Tickets. I am sad to inform you that I did not get a single number. And it would appear nobody else hit the jackpot either. It pains me deeply to know that our beloved Lang Creek beer and the brewery itself will only live on in our hearts. I believe we will all think back on it fondly. It is only suitable that we have a 10-day wake in Montana this year to honor it's passing. What fitting beverage can we toast it with? I still think a math teacher should know better.
  7. Perpetually single. I think it's because chicks don't dig tall dudes.
  8. Nah you aren't hijacking anything. It's one of the three things the thread is about. Those weight scale / height sticks are funny. Speaking of which. Seems like when it gets to our height every measuring tool tells a different story. I get a kick out of people who give you their height with fractions of an inch. I remember in high school being measured at 7 feet which is just silly. My recruiter in the Air Force was actually sent a special stick just so he could measure me. As I mentioned earlier there could be a tie. When I was at the 2005 Skydive Arizona Holiday Boogie I ran into a really cool up and coming skydiver who seemed to be exactly eye level with me. Any difference in our height would have been truly fractional. He was a relatively low number jumper at the time and statistically speaking there is a good chance he may have given it up. Unfortunately, I lost his contact info. It's a real shame because he wanted to buy my hand-me downs. I'd love to see some shortest skydiver conversations on here. The logistics of assembling the teams and getting them together for training seems a bit intimidating but it'd be fantastic to see it all come together. No matter who was selected.
  9. Yeah you certainly threaten my airspace. I like to tell everyone I'm 6'9" dude (insert Bill and Ted air guitar here). Those damn pro athletes throw everyone's perceptions of height out of whack. It's fun to see how their fans vehemently defend them too. In a way I'm responsible for skewing height perceptions although I've never lied upward about my height. Those are some fun pics. Here's a couple of mine. Somehow our 6'2"(give or take) regional director made it into both of em'.
  10. That would be humor . It's my own special blend but humor none-the-less.
  11. Wait. I thought you were going for one of the adult entertainment industry slots?
  12. Once in a blue moon I run a search to see who's talking shit about me . And you are quite mistaken if you think that last thing of interest for me would be less vertically inclined individuals. I think they are awesome. When I lived in Germany we used to gravitate to each other all the time. Got some great stories of some in leederhosen. I'd be happy to be a member in the freak parade. As far as I know I'm the tallest (with one possible tie if he still jumps) skydiver in the continental US. Even have all my own camera gear (although minimal experience with it)
  13. For those of you who for whatever reason opted not to make it out this year let me tell you what you missed: The landing area was fantastic. It was huge and devoid of most hazards aside from the infrequent gopher hole that plague almost any landing area. Sure there was still a shuttle ride but it was a big improvement over last year. It was comfortably warm almost every day. There were no wild fires near the DZ and I didn't even hear of any at Glacier. The insects weren't too bad. There were a couple of bees, hornet, grasshoppers and mosquitos but their visits were brief. Nothing like we encountered on previous years. Local wuffos were at an all time low this year. At the fire pit you would look around and actually recognize most of the people that were there. Quite a few of em popped out of the woodwork on Saturday night but when they discovered we had consolidated the Chorus and the Choir on Friday I think they got the point that we're done with them. My brewery jump was almost as much fun as skydiving into Lake McGregor. A sad note: "They" cut down the rope swing. Apparently some bad things went down at the there over the past year (not during Jumpmeet). The platform and it's support branches were cut off. The tree that had the rope tied to it was cut down entirely. For those of you with happy memories of the swing I can tell you that it's a very depressing sight. The silver lining is that the area is now a nice semi-secluded place to take a swim that is sheltered fairly well from prying eyes, with little to no local traffic. The turnout was about the lowest I have seen in my past 6 years attending the event and it was fabulous! With fewer loads and less vehicle and foot traffic the dust was relatively bearable. The hard core LP regulars were there and kept the vibe going strong. There was very little bullshit, whining, or drama (from skydivers). Any that I did see was dealt with promptly. It was a nice contrast to 2007 (which was great too). In short... Thanks for not coming. Hope to see you there next year.
  14. It'll be good to be in the air again. FYI No jello wrestling this year. Only two people expressed interest in it.
  15. Hey that is a great idea! Let's do that together. I'll give you 20 second before I exit so we can get good separation.
  16. I'll be going regardless. Skydiving is just a fraction of the reason I attend this event. That said. The old landing area was huge. And when jumping with large numbers of unknown quantities it's nice to know you can land far away from the main gate and avoid a good portion of the folks who see landing patterns as more of a recomendation than a rule. That and it's nice to be able to set up base near where everyone is landing and watch the carna... errr... I mean their mad skills under canopy. I'm sure our friends at LP are doing everything in their power to make things as safe and pleasant as they can for all of us. In the end if people don't have a blast they need only find a reflective surface to see the person who is to blame. Can't wait to see you all or at least most of you
  17. I think someone should just put my name on these lists each year as courtesy. Just like I'm gonna do for Mad John.
  18. Hey hot stuff. Long time no see. Yeah I can be persuaded. Although I think that might scare off more people than the lovely ladies attracted. If we can get the interest and funding I'd be happy to organize a little fun in the J-E-L-L-O. But this time I want some confirmed wrestlers.
  19. I understand and appreciate your arguments for not using a box. They are not without merit. As with almost all gear choices there are pros and cons that we need to weigh, be it a AAD, RSL, hard or soft reserve handle, In this case I still perceive that the pros for ME to have a box outweigh the cons. It's easy to say, "just duck". I will make a very conscious effort to. But you aren't in my rather large shoes so you can't fully relate. In my experience I have seen boxes save cameras. Without hard statistics I can only speculate on how one might reduce the risk of snags but it seems reasonable to think it a worthwhile precaution. I do intend to augment the box with insulation to protect it beyond the it's mere ability to "break wind". I'm sure that many of the best in the world will agree with you. I suspect many of the best in the world might argue against as well. Norman Kent addresses some benefits/and downsides of using one in his new training video. You never claimed your statements were absolute fact But they do seem to carry an absolute tone. Hope your positive experiences without a box continue.
  20. 1. I'm 6'9" in a tight plane. I'll do my best to not hit/rub the top of the plane ceiling and door but I KNOW at some point I'll screw up. Even top notch canopy pilots chow their landing once in a while. 2. So if I deploy perfectly every time snags are impossible? That's comforting. EVERYONE makes mistakes. Saying that you shouldn't fly camera unless you can always deploy perfectly is perhaps a bit extreme. I'm sure I do the grand majority of the time but I'm equally certain that there have been times when I did not and there will be a time when I will not again. It's that margin of error that I am planning for. 3. Moisture in the air and condensation is bad for cameras. There are plenty of people here who can tell you of when it has caused poor video or even damage to their cameras. It's cool that you've had good luck with your configuration. I'm sure many can echo your sentiments. That said, there are others with different experiences who can tell you how they have benefited from using a box. I respect you sharing your experience and OPINIONS and I'd be happy to learn more from them. However, stating them as absolute FACT for all people in all configurations does little service to any of us.
  21. I'm kinda with you on that jtval. I bought a box for 3 reasons. Physical damage protection, snag protection, and insulation from the elements. There is so much gap in this box that I don't see how it will provide much of the later. Currently I find myself in a position where I need to trade stability for ease of access. Also another frustrating thing about it fitting so loose is that the box will take up significantly more real estate on the top of a helmet that I'm trying to share with a digital SLR camera. I'm very confused as to how EVERYONE billed this box as being VERY tight. I'll take a picture when I get a chance of how not tight it is. Right now I'm working with the assumption that Cookie Composite mislabeled the packaging and that my box is designed for a similar but larger camera. Finally just because I seem to be in a mood to bitch. on their website CC says: "The BlackBoxes come with all the fasteners required for mounting or order with the Liquid Flatlock and we will mount the quick release plate to your BlackBox at no extra charge." They don't make any references to a custom or modified release plate. I opted to buy my box and Flatlock from para-concepts.com and mount it myself so that I could avoid the hefty shipping charge and surprise custom/taxes bill from FedEx that you get after you receive your order when you order directly from CC. So I don't have the hole or screw that skydog mentions Perhaps CC should inform customers that if they want to use a BlackBox in conjunction with a Flatlock that they need to order directly from them to get the propper configuration.
  22. My HC5, Cookie Composite BlackBox, and Flatlock came in and I have a serious dilemma. The camera shakes around in the box like beans in a maraca. I mounted the box to the Cookie Composite Flatlock per manufacturers instructions. This prevents me from further securing the camera with a camera screw. I had read in several places that this box was tight including on the Cookie Composites website: "You will notice that there is very little excess room in this enclosure but just enough to fit the Cameye2." So I was working with the assumption that the camera would be held in the box snugly enough that shaking wouldn't be an issue. I'm wondering if I was sent the right box (It was labeled BlackBox for HC5/7). DSE had mentioned that he didn't think a larger battery then the one that came with the camera would fit in the box. This one seems to have an inch gap in the back. I'm almost certain it could fit the largest battery available (NP-FH100). Perhaps the design of the box has changed and now larger batteries are required? With the camera pushed forward by a larger battery the controls will be on the far edge of the holes that were cut for them. Is anyone else encountering this issue? Did I forget to do something? I'd contact Cookie Composites and inquire with them. but I've had no luck in the past. I've made a couple attempts to contact them using the contact us form on their website but I never got responses. (maybe my mail service is blocking them) So I figure I'll inquire with you their customers instead. Also do any of you have tricks for securing the cameras tighter in their boxes? And JP we're all very happy that you are pleased with your thumb screw...
  23. I ordered the HC5 today without extra batteries . I suppose I can compare the 60 to one in a store when it comes in.
