Back in my high school days I found myself at an all boys catholic high school. The curriculum was a little . . . right of center. During one of my history classes, the Brother teaching the course was covering World War II. He was older and had likely lived through it, and was clearly enthusiastic about the topic. He covered a lot of the economic reasons we won the war (which were illuminating) and a lot on military strategy. He mentioned very little about what was happening in Germany and Italy. At one point a student asked him "what about the Holocaust?" He seemed a little annoyed by the question and made the following points: 1) More Christians than Jews died during World War II, so it wasn't a Jewish issue, and the term itself was a misnomer. 2) The Germans didn't target Jews anyway; they mainly targeted Christians. 3) It was a minor part of the war overall and not that important in terms of history. "But the Jews sure like to talk about it," he concluded, with the unspoken suggestion that they make a big deal about it for sympathy. If he were alive today, I have a feeling he'd be all about cancelling CRT as well. Those blacks just want to make it all about them.

Winsor, you're really starting to piss me off with your Brent impersonation. If you're going to provide information - it helps to read the whole thing - cause I can assure you that I will. You read the headline and skimmed it for those points that fit your argument, but you didn't actually read it. The study’s conclusion was not that vaccinations don’t impact infection, but that steps such as masking, social distancing, etc. should be used along with vaccination to fight the pandemic.

I still don't even know what the hell "woke" even means. As far as I can tell it is nothing more than a catch phrase used by old white men who feel that they are losing something if someone else is gaining something.
  4. 2 points
You would agree if you would just listen to Winsor explain Critical Jewish Theory one more time.

aaaaaand he really doesn't see it... The irony.

What Bill said at the end was, "I realized I have a lot to learn. Working on it." And, I think what he said about "Woke" = "Aware" is important. On a similar note, I had a contractor in the house and we were discussing this - he's quite educated, degrees in econ from a Calif school, etc. And he used the "I have black friends" thing. I spent a couple of days chewing on it and came up with this hypothesis: Maybe what they're saying is, "I used to be more prejudiced than now" - IOW I'm aware that I wasn't. So, instead of beating them up with the Ooooooh, SO you have black friends routine; ask them when did you realize you were prejudice? BTW - that is a CRT principle.

Wash it in the washing machine. Use detergent and hot water. Problem solved. Newer Sunpath freebags are not urethane coated. Talcum powder is abrasive.

So yes, all Javelin freebags are made of fabric that's sticky on the inside, but I have one here for a scheduled repack that's so sticky that it didn't want to let go of the reserve fabric, even after 90% of the reserve was extracted. Is there a good way to un-sticky a bag like this? Talcum powder, maybe?

Or, maybe they just know their audience.

But then, being me, I try to imagine what they went through to get there in the first place. I've had a couple of acquaintances who were roundly considered to be assholes. But both were noticeably on the autism/Asperger's spectrum, one had had an abusive father, and the other had an older brother who was incredibly good-looking and personable ("why can't you be more like Johnny?"). So, well, stuff. Doesn't make them easier to deal with, but each wants to, and has, contributed to the world in ways that satisfy them. Wendy P.

What non-cartoon-character is doing that with any of the complex problems that we have in the world right now? I don't know of any. I do know people saying that if we can alleviate one thing, even if we can't alleviate others, then maybe we should do so. Kind of like how they give diabetics insulin. That doesn't fix the broken pancreas, but it does alleviate the symptoms. Wendy P.

Except that Bill didn't say that his month in Africa and his management of a trans woman made him an expert, or even knowledgeable. It just illuminated the degree of his ignorance. That's valuable. There might even be things you're ignorant of, Winsor. Wendy P.

I think you know what he was getting at: nobody has an issue with somebody doing research to educate themselves...when that 'research' is 30 seconds on The Googles to find a YouTube video that's pushing an agenda that disagrees with the consensus of the scientific community, then using that video as evidence that the scientists are all stupid egg-heads...that's where shit gets annoying. Brent Hutch on here has done extensive climate research, for example.

Yup, I know. Same reason few Americans objected to the Iraq invasion. Y'all needed to get some revenge for 9/11. So spending a few trillion dollars and expending a few thousand of your soldiers was worth it. Who cares that Iraq had nothing to do with it? They're all the same over there in the sand box. Because revenge is just so sweet. As long as you don't personally pay the price that is.

It’s not just shorter lines, it’s air resistance and drag as well. A smaller canopy has a lower profile and less drag/air resistance. It accelerates faster and takes longer to slow down. What we have to understand is this whole WL conversation is not linear. In fact, it’s chaotic. Most people giving advice regarding WL or canopy size or canopy type almost never ask: WHY. Why do you need a smaller canopy or a different model? What are you trying to accomplish? What are your short-term and long-term goals? For example, If someone comes to me and says, “I started skydiving because I want to fly wingsuits” or “I started skydiving because I want to BASE jump,” my WL and canopy recommendation would be much different for them than someone who said, “I got into skydiving because I want to have fun.” What’s funny, is a lot of people don’t know they want to “downsize” until they see their instructor or the other “bad asses” of the DZ swoop in. They see the top of the totem pole wearing little rigs and flying tiny canopies and emulate them. Before giving anyone any advice, ask yourself, “what are they trying to accomplish and how can I help them accomplish that goal?” Don’t force your aspirations and goals on them.

But I actually like the guy. He seems to have a pretty good sense of humor, even about himself. I especially liked his 'Denny Crane' on 'Boston Legal', with James Spader.

The fact that a bunch of creationists are being offed by Darwinism does seem ironically appropriate.

“What a great teacher.” Sometimes the best you can do is be a bad example for the edification of others. Fuck around, find out.

Thank you Ron. I'm sure that flat Earthers and conspiracy believers can also find sources to back up their beliefs. I believe in faith, I know it is real. But that does not change the facts, only the perceptions. The real truth is that we do not know the facts, but we do know our truths. Objectively analyze and compare.

I don't know. Maybe a bible, or a world wide flood, or an archangel appearing in a burning bush, or a prophet who walks on water, or a pregnant virgin. Or any other of a host of fraudulent claims based on faith. The world is full of liars and people who blindly accept lies. You should know. Fakes are everywhere.

Let me speak plainly. People who fail to get vaccinated are screwing over the rest of us. All of your excuses are nothing but bullshit and I have no respect for you. None.

The article is true for traditional vaccines which refutes your earlier claim that vaccines are less than efficient. wrt the above statement. The mRNA Vaccines are better. https://www.vumc.org/viiii/infographics/how-does-mrna-vaccine-compare-traditional-vaccine Look, you can argue all you want, but the fact is - this shit works and we are on the eve of an entire new way to immunize society.

We are not talking about biological gender. We are talking about gender IDENTITY. Claiming that is a medical decision is absurd. The medical procedures for transitioning are well known, and the medical community accepts that the patient, not a doctor, makes the decision on whether or not to transition. So yes, medical ethics recognizes self-determination as the accepted standard for what surgery to perform, and what result to aim for. The patient, not any medical body, makes that determination. Right. And misdemeanors (and felonies) have zero to do with what people feel about the issue - they have to do purely with whether someone violates the law. There is no doubt that in North Carolina, you could throw someone in jail who used the wrong bathroom - just as at one time, you could throw a black person in jail if they used a white bathroom. The law stated both of those things were illegal. And there is no doubt that an angry cop could charge you with a dozen crimes if you were to do such a thing (or were black, or Muslim, or whatever other factor made him dislike you.) Further, I have no doubt that you could find a great many people today who would be uncomfortable if a transgender (or a gay, or even a black) person walked into the bathroom they were in. However, as I mentioned before, that does them no actual harm. A man who goes into women's room claiming that he is really a woman for the purpose of raping them - that is clearly harm, and if that were frequently the case, I would support more stringent laws on bathroom gender identity policing. Until that is shown to be the case, though, it is simply a non-issue.
