No, and that's the problem. Not everyone who saw the video knew it was wrong, not in the sense you imply. For example, the DA didn't "know" it was wrong in the sense that the bastard, and his asshole buddies, needed to be immediately locked up on murder charges. Of course looting and arson is wrong. But for just one second try to imagine living a life where you and your friends were not only deprived equal access to all society can offer, just owing to your skin color, but also subject to police harassment and murder. Then add to that the fact that the cop who killed someone who looked like you, or your family member would probably get away scot free. Can you imagine, for just one second, eventually being so pissed off you might want to break something? You know, just to remind yourself you aren't completely powerless in the face of what you deal with every damn day. Think about it.

What amazes me that we give LEO, supposedly trained in dealing with high stress situations, a lot of leeway in how they react when in high stress situations. However, we then strictly scrutinize and generally fault civilians, who are untrained in high stress situations, in how they react in those same high stress situations.

That's one factor. I've told prospective students (on here & in person) that a good place to 'put your feet' is to plan on spending about $10k (USD) to get from first jump to licensed & fully equipped. Another factor is being the 'new guy' and finding people to jump with (different rules about that in the US vs UK).

Hi folks, And possibly another slight crack in the dam: 'As Trump Heads To Maine, GOP Sen. Susan Collins Won't Be There To Greet Him' https://www.npr.org/2020/06/05/870151776/as-trump-heads-to-maine-gop-sen-susan-collins-wont-be-there-to-greet-him Jerry Baumchen

One good start (not a solution) would be to acknowledge that racism is real and pretty widespread. You asked in a different thread if anyone had heard 'n' word jokes recently. Do you remember when one of the Obama girls got accepted to Harvard(?)? The outpouring of racism was both disgusting and revealing. That sort of behavior has become much more open since Trump gained popularity. To pretend that he isn't a factor in it is disingenious. So is that problem the 'problem' or the 'result of the problem'? Are cops treated like shit because they're cops? Or because the people are tired of being treated like shit BY THE COPS? Are you serious? Have the police leave the citizens to the thugs & gangsters? After the Freddy Grey killing in Baltimore, there was a very revealing piece on NPR. A citizen told the reporter something along the lines of (paraphrased) 'you have to think really hard before calling the cops. Because around here, the cops often make it worse, not better.' How about training the cops properly, holding them accountable for their actions and weeding out the 'bad apples'? Far easier said than done, but when the entire department (at least everyone that was directly involved) helps cover up a cop cold-bloodedly murdering a citizen, you can't simply say ''some cops have an attitude" This is what happened with the MacDonald shooting in Chicago. All the cops who were there lied. Witness statements were altered. Video evidence from a local business was destroyed. Yet only the cop who did the shooting went to prison. Many were allowed to retire with full pensions.

Agreed - I should have spent more time on that one -

Took me a couple of minutes, too. Here's Yoink's post, which is what Turtle was actually responding to. So the "massive fucking hypocrite" didn't come from Turtle at all. And I think that the response to the first part has a typo ("this leads to" instead of "this lends to"), but yeah, it does mean that if one Bill of Rights amendment can be fought against, so can the others. And that's a good way to put it, too. But Turtle -- that took some effort to parse. . If you require that much effort of others to read your posts, then you should invest as much in reading theirs. One of the things you see in the military is an effort to dehumanize the enemy. Makes it much easier to fight and kill against those you believe to be less than you. Unfortunately you often see that same mentality creep into law enforcement. The Us vs Them.

The EC serves no useful purpose. Why would a state have a say in the life and direction of the nation state. When individual voters should have that role?

?? I've seen white people fully involved in damn near every photo or video of every protest march happening out there. Who said there was a problem?

NOT WHEN YOU ARE LEGALLY PROTESTING. Jesus Christ. Does the first amendment mean nothing to you? I'm starting to think that as an immigrant I'm the only person in this country who's read the constitution. Half the time Trump tweets I'm saying to myself 'you can't do that.... legally. Seriously.' You should be fighting to protect these people as strongly as you fight to protect your 2nd amendment rights - You've held the constitution up as an inviolate document before on that issue... Instead, now you're coming up with excuses based on what you IMAGINE these people MIGHT possibly do in the future, all video evidence to the contrary, in order to protect the team you associate with, you massive fucking hypocrite.

Lol. You can't make such a daft, misleading point as that and have the gall to be condescending at the same time. You don't have pure democracy if you allow the people to elect the president, but at least you have some of it. You also don't have any more or less tyranny. Sure it's a nice button pushing buzzword phrase, but in context it makes absolutely no sense. The limits on tyranny are the limits placed (or not, as the case may be) on the power of the president once they are in power. If you get someone who then wants to grab significantly more power than they should be allowed is anyone going to say "Well gee, this is worrying... but at least he was elected by a minority so that's ok!" And getting rid of the EC, a system rooted in both slavery and elitism, would make yours less imperfect.

You stand with them. You live it because you believe it. You believe it because it is the obvious truth is in front of your eyes. You say it out loud, that's how you change it. And if the opportunity presents itself you get off your ass and walk with them. No one getting gassed, hit with rubber bullets or even looting thinks that's the solution. They're just tired of screaming "look at me, look at me" when no one ever looks.

George Will - one of the most well-spoken and erudite authors the right wing has - becomes "like a 12 year old" when you disagree with his position. Up next - Turtle thinks the Constitution is "juvenile and ignorant" because of the emoluments clause.

Hi airdvr, I really do not remember. I would guess about 15 yrs or so. But, that does not mean that it is not common among some groups in this country. Jerry Baumchen

Insurance is exactly what's needed. Not every people settled the land by forcibly taking it from the natives. Why is your stuff more important that that other guy's life? Freedom, yeah, that's a good point. Threat, likewise. But stuff? Nope. Do you cut away your canopy even if you might be able to save it, and risk having it go into a subdivision, never to be seen again? Wendy P.

The Stylemaster and Starmaker manuals are one and the same. I was just now told this by long time poster Beatnik, who owns a Starmaker among his large collection of vintage gear. (The manual that has been around a long time in pdf form is only labelled Stylemaster; I hadn't thought of opening that.) Stylemaster.pdf
