Anyone in their 70s who's been employed in a professional career all their life SHOULD be worth $2M net (including a paid-off home). If not, they must have just spent their money on hookers, booze and skydiving, and wasted the rest.

Exactly. There is only one issue that matters in this election: Putting a functioning adult in the Whitehouse. I get so damned tired of the candidates laying out elaborate plans, and attacking each other in a circular firing squad. Newsflash: The Executive branch does not make the law; The Legislative branch does that. Need proof? After promising to replace ACA with "something better, that is cheaper, and covers everybody", the current Whitehouse Clown spent two years trying to sabotage ACA while his party controlled the House & Senate, yet failed.

That'll secure the nomination for Biden, I suspect. I might be off in my reckoning, but I think what most average Democratic voters want for the next 4 years isn't a protracted fight about gun rights, or healthcare, or abortion, or any of the typical 'lefty issues'; it's simply to steady the ship and have an end to the absolute insanity of the current President and the new type of politics. Under Trump the established government social rules have been changed. Openly lying is OK. Corruption, racism, bigotry and vice are acceptable. Communication in 128 characters of less is the appropriate channel from the ultimate authority. Loyalty to the CIC is more important than honesty and integrity to the country... I think voters are uncomfortable with this change to their understanding of what 'politics' was and how the game was played, so it wouldn't surprise me to see them vote for the old establishment for this election, just to get back to a set of rules they understand. Bernie is almost too far in the opposite direction generally, and a female VP would be another 'change' to the old and comfortably understood rules. When your car is on fire and pissing gas everywhere, it's probably the wrong time to start thinking about improving engine efficiency and installing eco-friendly seat covers, is all I'm saying.

He clearly quoted the text and provided a linked citation which is more than what most people here care to bother with. They just spout their BS and expect everyone to take their word for it. It's refreshing to have these links as a decent starting place, especially for those of us that don't have time to sail around on their yacht all day talking shit on the internet. The last poster that I can remember to cite this many sources was nerdgirl.

Hi Bill, I, for one, cannot seem to understand why the right wingers on here seem to just grab the headline(s) & fail to actually read the stories that they post. IMO a rational person would want to look like they know something about the subject. Jerry Baumchen

"Daan Struyven and David Mericle, economists at Goldman Sachs, said the example of Japan could prove instructive as the world’s third largest economy had not suffered a debt crisis, even though it arguably has the most public debt as a share of its GDP in the world. Japan’s government debt to GDP ratio sits at 236% in 2017, more than double that of the U.S., which stands at 108%, according to the International Monetary Fund. “Japan’s experience confirms that a debt crisis is difficult to imagine in a country that issues debt in its own currency, has a flexible exchange rate, and controls its central bank,” wrote Struyven and Mericle. All three features are also shared by the U.S. At the worst vaccines could take three years to become widespread. The Byzantine Empire had no understand as to what was causing the pandemic. The mortality rate substantially higher v Coronavirus. Two quarters and at its worst four quarters of zero or slightly below negative growth is not a reasonable comparable. Besides I always look for the positive. A break on global Co2 emissions and a sweep(Dems) in the upcoming US elections could save lives overall.

It’s deplorable, OK? That it was sarcastic is irrelevant. That it was stated by a newly-elected city councilwoman who has a penchant for throwing verbal bombs and who’s proud of her attitude that compromise and civility are overrated. Frankly, she would have done great on “The Apprentice” and Trump would have loved her. But it was stupid, and just as reflective of Democrats in general as Trump making fun of a reporter with CP. Well, I don’t see nearly as many people trying to justify what she said, most I’ve seen either say it’s stupid or sarcastic (SDNWOTN — sarcasm does not work on the net) Wendy P.

vows to infect Donald Trump supporters with coronavirus. Not sure how I can make it any more clear. You've managed to sidestep two questions. Let's try again... Show me the quote where Trump said it was a hoax...and is it fake news?

Show me where he said it was a hoax. You're ok with a politician threatening harm to the general public then...got it.

The cost of Trump's tax cut is $1.5 trillion and you applauded it. Basically you are saying that you can afford giving money to rich people, but find taking care of your society as a whole too costly.

I didn't offer a plan and nothing is free. I think the gap between our current system and single payer is too wide for one leap. I would start with making it legal for the government to negotiate pricing with drug companies. I'd continue with having a medicare buy in program for anyone who wants in. I'd require all doctors and hospitals to disclose in advance all charges in a clear, understandable way. I'd also require every doctor to accept government negotiated (medicare) pricing for all services. I'd let the market offer any more luxurious services at any price to those who can afford the bill. I'd pay for it by raising the top rates a lot, eliminating the red state subsidy by blue states and confiscating all 400 million privately own firearms except mine and selling them for 25 Bucks each on Ebay.

Can they? The legal right to go to any emergency room and lay the cost off on everyone else does not make it affordable healthcare.
