While I've packed a couple reserves that had Kevlar lines, I don't know the ins/outs of the issue well... What I was told at the time is that it was a two-stage issue: - Kevlar lines would abrade the metal components (brass slider grommets / steering guide rings) until there was a sharp area where it metal component has worn - that sharp area would then cut the Kevlar fibers. Justification for use on the reserves was that they were strong/low-bulk and acceptable for low-use items where the abrasion issue would take much longer to present itself. JW

Brilliant story from the UK this morning of an MP embezzling campaign funds to pay off ‘some bad people’. Story goes: MP meets man on dating app, goes to man’s flat for a party. MP meets second man at party, moves on to his flat. MP is seen coming a mile off by man’s flat mates, who accuse him of throwing up all over the place and hold him captive until he pays them £6.5k for the ‘damage’. MP doesn’t have the money, and decides that getting his campaign manager to steal it from the office would be a much better solution than calling the police. Poor Trump is getting closer and closer to bankruptcy. His $300 Air Treasons didn't sell well, and it turns out that not a lot of people want to buy Bibles from a rapist. And now his Truth Social stock is tanking. So he has a new grift! He will be charging any candidate who uses his name 5% of their take. It is highly suggested, though, that they send him more than 5%, because then he will bestow his (intangible) lagresse upon them: “Any split that is higher than 5% will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.” No word yet if they still have to pay if they use references like "the candidate that's not Joe" "the orange menace" "Sleepy Donny" or "Sir Grabs-A-Lot." -

No matter the outcome, which I predict will be a hung jury, just having the Dotard forced to attend court every day that it is in session is delicious. It will go on for weeks. And a hung jury leaves the possibility of a retrial........ -
I can remember at the beginning of the pandemic there was a lot of speculation on how this particular virus spreads. There was a focus on surfaces cleaning for a long time. It later became more clear that covid mostly transmits through aerial droplets. It also became pretty clear that the first strains that were the most virulent caused worse disease when the viral load of the initial infection was higher. Both these things support the use of masks as an attenuator.

You are correct, I am against mandates & lockdowns as they do not ultimately change the trajectory of a pandemic, but have severe unintended consequences. I am NOT against people wearing a mask if they choose to. I am concerned that people in high risk groups for ANY virus to be fatal thinking that a cloth mask will protect them when they should be taking more effective means. (i.e. sequestration, PAPR). I am retired & have nothing to gain here except for this. I don’t think you will find any information readily available on the internet that predates COVID. I do remember finding some studies on cloth masks that were conducted in the 1950’s, but that was part of some research that I did back in the 2000’s when my life/health depended on things like that. That info may still be somewhere, but probably buried on page 200 on a search engine. Some points I was trying to make are that the internet is not always a panacea of answers, particularly during a contentious time period. Government agencies are not always trustworthy (keeping in mind I have a lifetime there). Probably 90% of the data and findings that I worked on are not published to the public, which is representative of most work done for them. We assayed thousands of atmospheric samples for organic & non organic material, conducted hundreds of experiments examining how a bio strike might be implemented at mass transportation centers and high rise buildings, how pathogens and toxins can propagate through HVAC systems and filter material. Some with live agents and some with surrogates. A virus is able to transmit astonishingly well, and not just through droplets. Maybe a FOIA request to DHS or DOD would work, but I wouldn’t count on it

Sure, energy is like money. In fact you can convert one to the other. With natural gas, you build $100 worth of plant, put in $20 worth of natural gas, and get $22 of energy out. After a while you pay off the plant. Then you keep paying for the gas and making $2. At that point you are OK - as long as natural gas prices don't rise! With solar, you build $200 worth of plant and get $4 of energy out. After a while you pay off the plant. At that point you are making that $4 forever. (and yes, both will need maintenance.)
