Our team knows reserves. We have been involved with the design and production of more sport reserves than any other group in our industry. When we set about designing a new reserve from concept, we used this experience to the fullest. Reserves are about a few important things: safety, reliability, and performance.
Our new reserve is tested far beyond the minimum requirements of the latest US TSO (c23d) as well as the European standards (JTSO). We manufacture the Smart under the strictest international quality management program (ISO 9001). Few, if any, other manufacturers currently hold this difficult certification. The Smart is constructed chordwise with additional spanwise reinforcement. After studying various failure modes of existing reserve designs, Aerodyne is the first manufacturer to incorporate radial reinforcement into the tail of the Smart reserve as well. All of this adds up to what we believe is the world’s strongest reserve.

Again after studying existing reserve designs, we found the aerodynamics in use to be quite out of step with current technology. This was no surprise, as there has not been a new sport reserve design in some time. Since the Smart reserve was developed from initial concept, we were not constrained. We applied the most modern aerodynamic solutions to the problems of reserve canopy deployment, flight and landing.

Save ya life
Packs bigger than other 190's

Had a PC in tow on a wingsuit jump and had to dump my Smart 190. Deployment was brisk but not uncomfortable, it would be ok for every jump. Had about a 720 of line twists (almost certainly my fault) but she flew solid as a rock while I took my time unwinding. Nice flight characteristics and a bit of a soft flare but I guess that's to be expected. I walked away from a downwind landing off the DZ so it was certainly good enough. :) The only con is that it seems to pack a size or so larger than other reserves of equal size. Reference UPT's and Mirage's container pack charts and you'll see. And where more reserve is usually better I would call that a con. Other than that I'd give it a 5 star rating.

It is a reserve
It is a reserve

I wish control lines were lengthened by an 1 1/2 inches or so.
While chasing my stuff down in deep breaks I felt it stall for a moment, however I do have freakishly long arms and I use 26 inch risers.

If you have normal arm length you should be alright.

Used Smart 175 at 1.2 and Smart 120 at 1.75. I would not wanna load this thing more than 1.9, and that is just a personal opinion.

Im still here
none

Line over malfunction on jump #43... Deployed at 3.8K/ft tried to fly the canopy to 2800 before chopping. Chopped as I was spinning backwards and didn't have enough time to get stable before pulling as an RSL was connected! Nice big white canopy above my head, easy to steer, OK flare on landing with a 1:1 W/L, hopefully wont have to fly it again :)
Good experience...

It works, good flare, good price
packs bigger than an optimum

...than under my Aerodyne Smart 135 wingloaded at 1:1. Really big, powerful flare, really resistant to imbalance in the harness, a really boring canopy, just like a reserve is supposed to be. Can't say much about the opening, it was really nice and soft and on heading, but most canopies have comfortable openings at sub terminal.

It works, it's not expensive, I'm getting another one for my new rig.

Good opening, good flare
Steep angle

I was supposed to demo a Smart 120 this weekend but got to jump mine for real on saturday, so no demo needed anymore :-) WL about 1.45. My Smart opened fine after my cutaway, on heading, and it has a good flare: without adding speed I stood up my landing in about zero wind no problem, and this after starting the flare a bit too high. It does fly pretty steep. This reserve is highly recommended :-)

On Heading Opening, Docile, Good Flare
None that I can speak of

Took advantage of an Aerodyne demo over the weekend and jumped a Smart 175. Although it was PRO packed as my main the opening was quick and on heading. Control was great, very docile. Flare was great, no problem landing the canopy. Note that this was not an actual reserve ride, but a testament to the flight characteristics of the reserve itself.

Everything
Nothing

SO the first question is how to rate a canopy I have only flown once, sense the only thing I have to compare with are various main canopies I will compare all the canopies with cars. Everyone here drives assume and I imagine most everyone reading this has pushed many cars to the limit. So here is the line up
Saber 2 190 = Ford focus ST
Navigator 210 = Ford Ranger Sport
Vengeance 170 = Honda civic SI
Smart 175 = Ford Focus LX
First sense I was in a dive below 2000FT My body position was Sh!7 none the less the Smart opened nicely on heading. Flight was very smooth and predictable. The flare was nice and predictable. In the end how can you really rate something that is the last resort it opened, I landed on the DZ, I lived to jump another day you will not be disappointed in a reserve canopy.

Good Flare
None

Can't say much about this reserve but it saved my life twice in one week.
It was on rental gear but my next own reserve would be a Smart.

On heading openings
none

Have rode my smart 110 twice, at a wl of 1.5 . First time a spinning mal on a stiletto 107. Perfect fast on heading opening. No wind at all and straight in landing, felt it came down quite quick and landed a litle bit hard on my plants though standing. Second time was a total mal. Opened fast and totally on heading, because of the terminal speed it felt hard but not too bad. Very light wind, did a 90 turn and landed fantasticaly soft. After inspection, no damage at all. I am no rigger but pack my own reserve, so it gives great confidence to have a reserve that opens like this.

works great!
if I'm under it, I chopped my main!

I now have 5 reserve rides since getting my Aerodyne gear. The SMART 135 has performed flawlessly on every one, opening quickly and on-heading. The last one had a couple of line twists but even loaded at almost 2:1, it flew straight and level while I kicked out. 4 out of 5 times I landed out with my main and freebag and have had no problem standing up the landings. Even on a dark "sunset" load... I trust my SMART reserves.

Smooth, docile and comfortable both flying and opening
None

Upon deployment, my PC got entangled with the bridle. The terminal deployment of my Smart 190 felt like a standard Navigator opening. Flew inn, made a flat turn with deepbrakes, and had only a small flare left on landing. Nothing to complain about. It felt just super smoooth!

I've never jumped any other reserve, but this one felt good, and I'll probably stick with it for a long time!

Lost my freebag, but that's a cost I can live with..litterly =)

Nice drive, good flare, strong construction
lower brake lines are 2 different sizes

Head down, toggle came unstowed, and spun up on deployment...chopped, and was under a nice fully inflated smart 250. Vigil reported freefall after cutaway as under 2 seconds and 22mph. The only thing I found odd was that the lower brake lines that pass through the riser guide rings are smaller than the upper control lines. As you turn and flare, you feel the lines "bump" through the rings at the point where they are finger trapped together.

Excellent Handling, Awesome Flare
None Apparent

Rushing for a load to do a B-rel with a Student I did the normal 'Shake and Bake', clear stabalisers and wrap in the tail. Over 400 jumps on my Vision 117 with this pack. Canopy opened turning violently to the right.....linetwists and....cutaway. Look up, a beautiful white canopy. Quickly release brakes, find the stall point and try the handling of my first reserve ride. WOW! Great flare and turns were very responsive. Nothing like what other people describe under their reserves. Flew well in deep brakes as well as having great drive. No sluggishness here. My WL is about 1.59. Got me back to the DZ no worries, landing on the disc!! Highly recommend this canopy. (I also packed the reserve!!!)

soft opening, responsive flare
none

Awsome reserve. I was flying a 120 Velocity, spun up on me at deployment.

Excellent opening, extremely soft (wl 1.5:1) excellent control with toggles nice turns. Flare was a little long but still landed fine.

All in all a good reserve and happy to have it.

Great value, Stable flight.
high loaded landings are a little trickier.

I weigh 250 out the door and have had more reserve rides than I'd care to in the past few months on my 150 smart. The openings have always been great, flight is good, feels very stable. The canopy gets good glide and handles well in brakes. (Flat turns and the like) Catching the freebag between my feet was very easy on the last one.

I still have yet to really figure out how to land it perfectly without a little kneesliding at my wingloading. I've gotten a bit of surf out of it and it behaves differently than a ZP canopy in the swoop.

It's a great canopy I just hope I don't have to see it again for a little while... I've been keeping my rigger a little too busy.

It got me down safe
none

I was jumping a brand new rig, Dolphin 2000, Sharpchuter 245 and Smart reserve 220. It was my 31st. jump all equipment was setup and packed by an rigger with over 30years of experience. 3 lines on the sharpchuter failed under normal stable belly down deployment. The main completely failed and I had to initiate a cut away feet low and spinnining violently. My smart reserve performed flawlessly opening smoothly with three line twist induced by the spin. The landing was faster than i was used to but controlled and safe. It saved my life!
