In May 1998 we released the world's first 27-cell crossbraced canopy in the form of the Icarus Extreme VX. At that time we had developed and produced the world's most powerful swoop machine to date, but the VX exhibited an opening sequence that virtually limited it to being a swooping canopy, and hardly acceptable as a terminal velocity skydiving canopy.

During the four year period following our release of the Icarus Extreme VX, we continued to develop and refine the next generation prototype of a 27-cell crossbraced canopy, resulting in the Xaos-27.

Great Openings, Great Swoops
None

The Xaos-27 is the best all around cross-braced canopy. It opens soft enough for me to trust it with a heavy camera helmet on thousands of jumps. It is very responsive, as any cross-braced canopy is, and fun to fly. My W/L is between 2.2 and 2.7.

The openings are long, around 800ft usually, and soft. Sometimes there is a little bit of left-right shake as the cells inflate, but not enough to call it "rough". It opens better and more predictably in my experience than the Velo or Katana. It does not open as well as a Xaos-21 or Crossfire. I trust it for jumping camera. However, if you have a premature toggle release, it does spin up fast if you don't counter-input before full-inflation.

It's trim is steep allowing for a lot of speed and long recovery arc, ideal for swooping. It stays in a dive, like a Velo, so swoops must be initiated high. Yet there is a lot of input on rear risers, for trimming it up and making it back from a long spot or to plane out of a dive exactly when you want to. The front riser pressure is lighter than a Velo, but not as light as a Katana. It's very responsive to harness input and easy to initiate turns and swoops with just harness.

Openings, Flare Power, Rear Riser Responce
Absolutely None!!!

I flew my new 27 cell 88 Xaos this weekend and I absolutely fu#$@!g love it. Hands down the best canopy ever built in all aspects. I love the rear riser response on it, so easy to plane out. The toggle flare is outstanding and the openings are the ultimate wet dream smooth and on heading every single time. I did several straight in approaches and landed perfectly with tons of flare. The difference between flying it in half brakes and full flight is amazing. In half brakes or on my rears, I get a great glide and in full flight it takes me into super sonic. I love it. SO WELL WORTH THE WAIT!!!

Money Openings! Sick Swoops!
It does not come in CAMMO

I have been jumping the Xaos 27 for over 2 years, 3000 x-27 jumps, and must say it is exceptional, especially openings.
Continous HMA lines rule (no cascades), and pretty easy to replace line sets without sewing. These lines also last longer. The swoops are total fat long daddies with lots of low end lift, basically alot of power at the very end of your flare so you just keep on flying.
Long and strong! If your an experienced canopy pilot then don't take my word for it or anyone elses. Check it out and see for yourself.

sick swoops, stable opennings, quick responce!
rarely, but the leading cells like to fly before its time.

There comes a time when you just have to swoop, and no better canopy to do it in then the "xaos 27". I have over 50 jump under this extreme canopy. At first, It was a bit scetchy, but soon learned of the awsome power this machine has to offer. technique, and timing are a big factor in having fun with this canopy, and not get yourself hurt. Take it up high, way high before you start your turn. You'll find out, how much speed you could build before you have to go to rear risers, and bring it in for a beautiful, sick, 300+ foot swoop that your mother would be proud of. BLUE SKIES & HAVE FUN!

Openings, swoop performance
It doesn't come in brown coloring

It opens great, smooth, not brisk like the VX. Front riser pressure is lighter and much more managable (you won't make an ass of yourself if you hook it too high). It dives very very nicely, lots of flare power. Great Canopy. Thank you please drive thru.

Great openings, light riser presure, powerful flare
Can't think of any? They're not free?

Without a doubt the entire line of Precision canopies opens nice than almost anything else on the market. The 27 Cell Xaos is no exception. After being beten up a few times by the only other 27 cell on the market, experiencing the openings of the Xaos is a dream come true.

The riser presure is another improvement allowing continual adjustment while in a high performance riser turn/dive. Improvement is the key word here, as Precision was able to take the existing research and improve upon it.

The landings are sweet and long. The flare is powerful, even suprisingly so. Rear riser landings are smooth, and the speed seems to go on for ever, while transfer to toggles is easy. Toggle landings are smooth, and the flair is continuous througout the toggle stroke.

Precision has several "stock" sizes and will build it in any custom size you wish for only $20 more. Production times are short 4-5 weeks, the canopies come with softlinks, and the Precision service is great.

*Author has flown Xaos 27 Cell canopies including 108, 98, 93, 88, 83, 72 at a normal exit weight of 205-210lbs. Prefers 88 and 93.
