The Sabre2 is a powerful semi-elliptical 9-cell canopy that is a great all-around choice for intermediate and experienced jumpers. Our most popular main canopy ever, the Sabre2 feels aggressive at higher wing loadings but is quite tame when lightly loaded. This canopy is best known for its powerful flare and wide speed range. With neat packing and proper deployment technique, Sabre2 openings are consistently soft and predictable. The Sabre2 has a steeper glide and a longer recovery arc than the flatter gliding Pulse or Stiletto and is an excellent choice for those wanting a bit more aggressive piloting experience but are not interested in the demands of the Katana or Velocity.

Background: I demoed one of these over the last two weekends, put about 20 jumps total on it. I'm about 235lbs out the door, jumped a Sabre2 170, which translates to about 1.4 wing loading. I've got ~250 jumps, mostly on Hornet and Triathlon 190s.
Packing: The Sabre2 170 packs smaller than my Hornet 190 by probably 10-15%, but the more slippery fabric takes some getting used to. I did a basic PRO-pack, didn't roll the nose and put about 5-6 folds in the tail.
Openings: not nearly the snivel that I get from my Hornet, but never fast enough to hurt, either. Mine consistiently opened in a right-hand turn, but I'm assuming this is a packing problem that I haven't worked out yet.
Flight: Toggle turns were very comfortable, responsive but not fast enough to get you into big trouble. Front riser pressure was more than I expected, but I don't do low riser turns so that's not really a concern. Rear risers felt more mushy than I expected, but I'd still land this canopy on the rears if I ever lose (another) steering line in flight. The straight stalls were very deep on the demo brake settings, I'd have them shortened if I bought one. The straight stalls were fairly quick, but nothing that really scared me. The turning stall was another story, I got four or five twists and collapsed about three cells -- glad I was really high when this happened -- not a maneuver I'd try on a regular basis.
Landings: SO nice. I'm one of those boring straight-in guys, and on a no-wind day I had no problems at all getting enough lift to fly very soft, almost stand-up landings. Any headwind at all and you could just put your feet down. On most of my landings there was a fair bit of control range even after touchdown, so no real risk of a low stall here. (See my comment about shortening brake lines).

Overall: I loved it. I was looking for a 2nd canopy to replace my Hornet that offered somewhat better performance without the risk/hassle of a true elliptical, and yet was still fun to fly and easy to pack and land. This one fits that bill perfectly.

Just got my Sabre2 107....what a blast! Definitely surfable/swoopable when you want to, and with an amazing speed range. Beautiful openings (approx. 500'-600' snivel) and on heading too! Wasn't used to that with my Sabre 120. Demo one if you can - you won't look back. My hat's off to PD for this one.

I was at the JOTP boogie at Perris toward the end of January and had the oportunity to demo a Sabre 2. I normally fly a Sabre 120, so I decided to demo the Sabre 2 120. Needless to say, I was (and still am) extremely impressed. Very stable, quick to respond, incredible speed range. I had an absolute blast flying this canopy. For something that was the same size as my own, I was able to get a lot more swoop distance than the ol' Sabre. Fly the hell out of it! It'll keep giving you more. Many people have said that the Sabre 2 is simply PD's semi-eliptical answer to the Icarus Saffire....they couldn't be further from the truth. There's no comparison. My hat's off to PD for this one, it's NOT like any other. I wing load my Sabre 120 at approx. 1.5 - 1.6, so I plan to downsize to a Sabre 2 107 and finalize my non-crossbraced downsizing venture for a while (My next venture will be to a crossbraced eliptical - probably a Velocity). But in the mean-time, I'm gonna have a total blast with my new Sabre 2!!!

As in my last post, I was jumping a demo Sabre2-150, and even at my home DZ of 6000', and an exit weight of 205#, it was no problem, very responsive. Jumped it out in Florida, and it was great. I tried a 135, and ended up buying one with the $100 rebates PD was giving out. There is nothing bad I can say about this canopy, it does everything that I could ask and more. It really is misleading that it shares the Sabre name, since it is an incredible, new design. Call to PD, get a demo set up for the $30 in shipping, and once you try it, you will have your order in...

This canopy opens so sweetly! Similar to a Spectre but better....I know,I know, hard to believe but it's true! Less altitude is burned in the snivel and the overall forces feel very much like a Spectre. Inflation is extremely smooth. On-heading is an understatement. Rock-solid in brakes or full flight. Flat glide path. Toggle pressure is minimal. Spin spin sugar, spirals are fast and feet back! This canopy required no input to correct oversteer, it simply wasn't there. Great canopy for that long spot! The landing approach is really nice without severe angle to the ground. Swooooooooooooops really well! I would recomend this canopy to any one that wants awesome openings and an extremely fun canopy ride. It is solid, solid, solid. What else would you expect from PD? Call Kolla at Performance Designs for a demo. The only bad thing about the demo is sending it back!

With 175 lbs at the door, I’ve been testing a 150 Sabre2 under normal conditions. Light and steady winds but plenty of air traffic at the DZ.
Openings are head on, soft and not to long as in comparison with a Spectre. The glide is flatter than a Spectre, it seems you’re flying for ever. Any turns are smooth and fast. You don’t loose as much alt like you do with a Spectre. Landing is a piece of cake. You can pull it down and park it or swoop it nice and easy. I never had the impression of getting stressed out. A clear input on either front or back risers or breaks gives you clear feet back. For somebody coming out of training a great canopy to start with. You an back it any way you want (or can – think a new zero P …) So for all the jumpers out there that are no longer novice in the sport and are looking for a good choice canopy that will last for a long time with a high and lasting fun factor here it is.
As I just bought a new rig and wanted to keep the old one – I bought the Sabre 2 for it. In my old Rig I have a 150 Spectre. With just something over 100 jumps I play it safe and will have a lot of fun with both of them.

Have fun

I was jumping at my DZ when I heard that there were Sabre 2 demos available. I jumped my 170 Sabre for about 40 times until I realized that my neck could handle about 50 more openings. (Read my post about the original Sabre). I wasn't expecting much, but I jumped a Sabre 2- 150, and it was incredible. The opening was softer than my PISA Hornet, and responsiveness and toggle pressure were great. The landing was soft, and I had a smile on my face until I realized that I had to give it back. Simply, incredible...
