Dare to be a little different...The HAVOK from Bonehead composites features a unique solution to the Flip-Up visor skydiving helmet. Instead of just the lens being able to open, we have designed a RW helmet that the WHOLE FACE flips open. Fabricated using BH's rock-solid composite fabricating techniques, this all carbon-fiber helmet is just what you are looking for.... and the rugged, hi-peripheral vision lexan lens stays closed until you tell it to open. The HAVOK also features the ability to put 1 or 2 audible altimeters on the outside of the helmet and not have to worry about them sailing off in freefall or during a hot 4-way. The HAVOK comes standard with BH's ingenious Thermal-Fit liner, chin-strap closure and also comes with a new anti-fog coated lens.

face screen, good fit, works over glasses
fogs, ugly, visibility under canopy with face shield up

I bought this helmet last year after reading numerous reviews by users who wear glasses. I tried on an oxygen A3 but my glasses didn't fit very well under the flip up lens. My first jump with it sucked pretty bad, the face shield fogged up instantly, pulled early because I couldn't see the altimeter. Inside the face shield is a removable pad that fits around your chin and lower cheeks, I removed this and cut a nice big hole where the main vent is in the front. I then drilled about 11 1/8 inch holes through the plastic face shield along the lower edge just above the chin bar. This seemed to solve the problem. I have put about 25 jumps on it and have had some minor fogging but it is minor. My only issue with this helmet is that once I'm under canopy and flip the shield up it does limit your peripheral vision, just means you have to be more careful and really twist your head around checking for traffic. All in all, a great helmet, I love being able to put it on and leave the shield up until I'm in the door, and can close it quickly and securely before stepping out. I took a kick to the head the other day and other than the noise didn't really notice it. Apparently it was a hard kick the other diver complained about his foot hurting :-)

Love the whole visor lifting up
misting

I wear glasses and the Havok works out wonderfully. it is very comfortable and it is great to not have to "work around" to get my glasses on.

I do have a misting problem. Have heard the new visors come with small holes drilled in them.

Has anyone tried to do this in an older visor and if so does it work well

Thanks

Lightweight, secure, inexpensive replacement lens, and my glasses fit under it!
None noted at this time

I bought the Havok due to having an awful time with over-the-glasses goggles. Everything that I tried was inadequate, and caused problems with depth perception on landings. The Havok fits well over my glasses (mine are a bit wider than most), and has been easy to deal with under canopy as well (opening, closing, etc.). I have not yet baked the liner, so mine is pretty tightly fitted. I will be baking it this week and can post an update after jumping it again. The photo shown in the review for this helmet isn't what the current iteration looks like. Take a look at boneheadcomposites.com . - David

Flip up visor, good fit (after baking inserts), solid construction.
Velcro for chin pad pulled off, (Easy to fix though). Exterior audible mounts. Restricted visibility when opened.

This is a very good helmet. I like being able to leave it on my head on the way to altitude and just flip the visor down when the door opens. The ski boot style visor retainer is very secure and easy to operate, even with gloves on. The only downside to this helmet is that your upward view is restricted when you open it up. I just leave it closed until I land. Great helmet, try it you will love it!!!

Increased field of vision when open
lots of line snap points

After using this helmet, it was not my best choice. I love the open face while under canopy. But the helmet has far to many snag points, especially around the face shield pivot points. This factor increases under canopy when the face piece is open and you are moving you head around. I am looking for something else. May try a full face with the shield removed.

good fit on huge heads
slight problem with fogging

Great helmet!Nice to be able to leave it on and talk freely as I hate to fumble with the strap while wearing gloves. It fogs unless I use the antifog frequently, but then againI sweat like a hooker in church. Haven't tried Rain X yet,but have had very good results with it riding dirt and mountain bikes.

Fit, Finish, Quality, and it Looks Good!
A little pricy, external audible ports

I have tried several brands and this is by far the most comfortable and secure helmet that I have tried. I ordered the XL and it fit like a glove (23 5/8" cranium). The ratchet locking system for the visor is very sturdy and works unbelievably well.

My Havoc came with the pre-drilled holes in the visor and the anti-fog solvent. Earlier posts listed a misting problem and I have not had this happen on any of my jumps. Looks like Bonehead listened to its consumers and fixed the problem.

I do, however, wish it had internal audible ports. The external ports seem secure, but I like knowing there is no way for my Pro Track to fall out. The instructions do say, however, that you can cut the lining inside the helmet to make an internal port. They don't recommend doing this on the XL helmet (comfort reasons).

So, basically, if you want a secure, comfortable, well built, cool looking helmet, then look no further. It is also kind of nice to be able to talk to people without having to take your helmet on and off.

See Ya!!!!

Love having nothing in my face on the ride up.
Screws have worked loose once on visor; fogging, glare.

I like the full-face to avoid wind burn, especially in colder temps. Fogging can be taken care of pretty much with anti-fog. I have had an issue where the sun is behind & to my right or left, belly flying...made it difficult to read my alti due to sun glare off the visor. No real issue, just turned to avoid glare. The screws do need to be checked/tightened periodically.

the most eyeglass friendly fullface i tried
nose piece

The Havok was a wish come true for me - I could never find a fullface to fit my big head with my glasses on.

The only thing I find a pain is the small piece that is ment to act as a nose cup. seems like its just a little short to catch the velcro where I want to place it.

Full Face will open up
Cannot hear pro track with visor up

I like my Havok, but it is not a perfect solution. The open face is great, but the pro track is moved up with the shield, away from the ears. I have to remember to put it down before 1000 feet to hear the test signal. Fogging is still a problem in high humidity areas. (the south)

Edit August '04: I purchased and installed a new face shield. The factory has placed several holes in it near the nose and the fogging problem is much improved. Actually, those could be drilled on the older models by the owner.

No wind Blast
A Bit of misting up durning freefall

It is a really comforatable helmet. Only problem is misting up of the visor during freefall....all i need is a anti-fogging agent to sort this out! Otherwise its great. U also have the option of taking off the pull-up visor! So you kinda get 2 helmets in one!

Now comes fully painted and not just the back
looks a bit large

This helmet has gone through some slight changes and if you want a paint job on it, Bonehead now paints the whole helmet.
Great for folks that want a full face helmet and have to wear glasses. Also good for folks that have a larger than usual head.

Very comfortable, very high quality!
none

I used to wear these Ryder goggles, they would give me tunnel vison.

I decided to get a full face helmet because I wanted unrestriced vision.

I demoed some oxygen helmets from square 1 but I didn't like them because there is no chin strap and the velco headband slips off in freefall making the helmet very unsecure! I almost lost it doing a sitfly! The oxygen visor flip-up mechanism is cheap, you have to bend the lens to get it to pop up!.

The Havok is a much better design!(and the same price as an oxygen). It has a chinstrap and the entire face shield flips up, not just the lens! This makes it easier to talk to people on the plane without removing the helmet. The face shield is secured by a ski boot style binding so you actually have about 100 teeth securing the helmet in the down position. As a result the helmet is a slightly larger profile than the oxygen but is still perfectly good for freeflying.

I haven't noticed any problems. In fact it's a huge improvment for freeflying because of the high speeds, you don't have the wind sandblasting into your face!

Bonehead is right across the street from Skydive Perris,CA so it isn't hard to get service!

The helmet has 2 very secure external audible ports. I like having them on the outside because I get a more acurate reading, matching my wrist altimeter.

The carbon fiber finish is awesome, I might add that the face shield also has the carbon fiber finish. The picture of the helmet that you see (on this review) has some kind of older finish on the faceshield, the new ones aren't like that. Mine is all carbon fiber/black.

It even gives you the option of "baking"
the padding in your oven, which then molds to the shape of your head.

The "Havoc" is much better looking than the "Boomerang" fullface that Bonehead also sells.

Fits a big head, with glasses
Could tuck under chin better

I have a 23 3/4 inch head, and no other full face helmet would really fit, and none was even close to fitting over my glasses, so I was still wearing my ProTec helmet with prescription goggles. The Havok is bigger, and much wider around the eyes, so glasses fit easily. The "sizing" is really from the liner, and I found that a combination of parts of the XXL liner and the XL liner gave me the perfect fit. I would like it if it tucked under the chin better, but it's snug enough. The fact that the entire front flips up (instead of just the visor), makes it easy to get on and off, but the person in front of you on the plane might bump into it when it's up.

...

Very convenient helmet. My experience of use of helmets BoneHead is very small (earlier at me was only Mindwarp), but, in comparison with Z1 and Oxygn from SkySystems, it would be desirable to allocate the maximal comfort in free falling, really full peripheral vision. Very conveniently mounting Pro-Dytter or Pro-Track. So....I Like this Helmet
