The "Odyssey" will touch you where no other rig can with its new "cut-in" backpad (the lateral straps exit the backpad closer to the center of the main container, instead of at the corners). This feature of the Javelin "Odyssey" allows for the lateral strap to contour around the lower back, keeping the container snug against the jumper. The jumper and Javelin "Odyssey" move as one. High-speed free flyer, competitive formation skydiver, or weekend warrior, the Javelin "Odyssey" stays snugly in place.

Customer service, reliability
None

I'm a little skeptical of the claims of poor customer service. My experience was great. I was talking to manufacturers and dealers to build my rig, and in dealing with Sun Path, Chris Talbert was very engaging. We emailed back and forth for two weeks while he answered my questions and gave me advice. He also took the time to contact the distributor I was using to put everything together and make sure everyone was on the same page so I would be getting exactly what I was looking for. Through small talk during the process Chris also found out that I was a medically retired veteran and gave me Sun Path's active duty military discount.

Comfort, Freefly Friendliness, Customer Service
None that spring to mind

I am bemused by the reports on here of bad customer service from this company. I bought my rig 4 years ago and have not had a single problem with it, or the customer service that I received.

When I my wife completed her AFF course just over 3 years ago, I had no hesitation in recommending an Odyssey for her. We travelled to Z-Hills to pick it up and get a few jumps in, and although my wife found the system very comfortable, she found the chest strap was sitting very high when she was under canopy and was obstructing her ability to look downwards.

Sunpath had a look and immediately suggested that we leave the rig behind so they could sort the problem out. They worked out that the wrong sized yolk had been fitted, and they sorted the problem out by remeasuring my wife and eventually remaking the rig (at no extra cost). When the 2nd rig finally arrived, the problem (although less pronounced) had not been completely solved, and the experts at Sunpath worked out that they did not have an ideal pattern for my wife's sizing (she has a "cuddly" figure). Solution: a complete re-design of their templates and another new rig, again at no extra cost. Result: perfectly fitting rig and complete satisfaction. Poor customer service? I DON'T THINK SO.

durable and easy access to AAD.
Main flap comes open while freeflying. Not as comfortable as other rigs. bottom corners do not completely tuck under the

If you freefly, DO NOT consider a Javelin Odyssey. These are good durable rigs, but in my opinion, they are more suited for RW flyers (freefly transitios allow air to get under main flap and flip it open). On every jump, the main flap comes open, exposing my bridle and because of that, I don't feel safe jumping a Javelin Odyssey.

My next rig will be a Mirage, Micron, or ICON; simply because they are more freefly riendly due to their main flap design.

Extremely comfortable
Customer Service

This is my second Odyssey. First one, not a single problem, great fit and very durable. Second one, was basically brand new, hardly any jumps on it. Felt once more so extremely comfortable with all options, yet came with a pull-out system. Am now waiting (my rigger as well) for more than 2 months to switch over to a throw-out system, yet Sunpath has not been able to process this order (via my rigger) in that period. Needs definitely improvement in that field.

Worth your money but.....

Comfort, quality, costumer service
Not thats good for sitfly cause legstraps "getting off"

I bought a brand new Odyssey J3K.
Very greate and comfy rig! You dont feel it in plane or in free fall.
Only problem I had is on sit, but it was no big deal, just i could be a bit better:)
I had it only 4 month, but never had any kind of problem during that time.
Its looks really great, I got lot of support and help while I was ordering.
So I cant do anything else then recommend that rig!
However I ordered G4 now. Just wanted to try something new. But I strongly recommend Odyssey as well!

Very comfortable
Poor customer service

I just got my New Odyssey And I would have to say a very nice fit and great quality. probably one of the best rigs out there.

But the customer service is not up to par
I made the mistake of buying it with Triple Risers and now they will not take them back.I have Zero jumps on these I just wanted to trade them for some 24 inch riser no such luck. I was told "oh well that's your problem". I mean I know it's my mistake in the 1st place. I was even willing at that point to pay half the price of a new pair and still send them in but Sun Path was not willing to work with me.

I won't write about how good their products are. That's already well known.
I'm just going to tell you that they have an outstanding, great, quick service and a very very kind personnel. In general, the best CR out there.
Thank you Sunpath.

Feels like I am wearing a backpack, with no books in it !
Why the hell does it have to be so comfortable!?

I just bought my first rig, although it is the fourth brand I have jumped. After jumping those other three rigs i figured that being uncomfortable underneath canopy, in the plane and just plain wearing them was a norm. Well now with my jav ody I feel that no more, it fits so well, nice and snug into the small of my back. I worked with J at sunpath and he was more then helpful, especially in dealing with my pain in the ass. I would suggest this rig to anyone, and as more and more information comes out about the skyhook I am glad I bought a rig that it is skyhook ready. I have only had a few jumps on it so i will update this as my season begins and I have had more jumps on it, but I am sure the only comments that will come in from me will be positive!

Javelin Odyssey is at the top of the price ladder, but you get what you pay for. I'm in the process of ordering my second. Wouldn't have anything else! Cheers sunpath

Freefly friendly, comfortable, looks awesome!!
None

All I can say is thank you sunpath! My rig is awesome, fits great, flies great and looks kick ass! I know the Odyssey is not the cheapest rig around but all I can say is you get what you pay for. To the rubbish about not being freefly friendly all I can say is put the right canopy in it! Choice of Champions indeed.

Comfy, safe and freefly friendly!
None

My first rig was a javelin...I liked it but it tended to shift around on my body even thought the harness size was right.

I contemplated buying a Mirage as my second rig...I really did...but once I put on the Odyssey I fell in love with it.

it is comfy...it stays in place in a great way even when doing a lot of flips and transitions at high speeds.

If you have a problem with your flap staying closed, try putting the flap between the other flaps and not just under all of them and it will stay closed...and also check your closing loop length...

Most comfortable rig I ever owned
The main flap may come open while free flying

I have 350 jumps on my Oddessy, and have been wishing for a Mirage since purchasing one for my wife. My brother's Oddessy's main flap will not stay closed in a sit, and mine occasionally pops open during high speed transitions to a stand.

I also notice the risers tend to want to slide out as they have nothing but pressure to keep them in the bottom of the container. There are also problems with the lines showing at the corners of the closed container. I have noticed other container manufacturers have addressed these problems and have safer designs for free flying.

On the plus side it is the most comfortable rig I have owned and would be great for RW.

It just fits - the first time!!! Exactely as I ordred it
.....hmm - no!!

Ordered my first Odyssey this spring (April) and sad to say - they game me a 29 weeks delivery period.
BUT - when it finally came - it is just awsome.
The cut-in system is a gift! It packs wonderfull and is just right for me.

Veeery comfortable and cute
Waiting time

I am quite small and there's rarely anything that fits me properly, but this baby is like a second skin. The cut-in laterals are amazing.
I am definitely sticking with this rig (unless Sunpath makes something even better ;) ).
Sunpath service was also great.

Very Comfortable!!!
Production time

This is my very first container and I love it. On the ground, in the plane, in the air, and under canopy it is extremely comfortable.
I can not say that I will ever buy anything else. There is such a large selection of different fabrics and colors to choose from.
Even thpough the production time was a whopping 16 weeks it was well worth the wait.
You can't go wrong with this rig.

Incredible comfort
None

I have never owned anything but Sun Path in my whole skydiving career and now with the Odyssey I am even more pleased. I was actually contemplating a Mirage before the Odyssey came out and then as if Sun Path was reading the minds of it's Freeflyers, out comes the Odyssey. One thing I really like about Sun Path is there honesty of sizing. If they say that an NJ will fit a particular size of Main and Reserve and that you can possible drop a size, they are always right on the money. A fantastic rig for any form of jumping. Has any and all options anyone could possibly want.

I just got my new Javelin and thought I would write and tell you what I thought about the "Odyssey" mods on it. First of all, mine is an RS (formerly called XRS), which is the smallest one they offer. I have a Tempo 120 and a Cobalt 85 loaded into it and it looks FANTASTIC!

The biggest difference in this rig, as compared to the last generation, is the cut-in backpad/harness mod. What this does is "glue" your container into the small of your back. The rig simply does not wash around at all on your back. I had every intention of getting another Vector before I tried on a friend's Odyssey prototype last winter. The fit of this rig changed my mind. I had not owned a Javelin for over ten years prior to this one because mine, and many other friends', had problems with the riser covers coming open in freefall and beating your ears to death. I am happy to report that the riser covers on this newest Jav are twice as secure and I have not had any instance of problem with them.

One thing that is weird to get used to is flattening the risers into the troughs. With the new plastic tubes that run up into them (for the cutaway cable), they are VERY stiff. It takes a bit to get them laid down flat, but not so long as to bug me too much.

I have always been a big fan of third (toggle)risers, so I ordered a set of 16" velcro-less ones with this rig. My only bitch with them is that the dive loops are SMALL, two-finger loops that are a bit harder to get to than I am used to.

I did NOT get any of the screwy "alternative" fabric options on my rig. The only one I like AT ALL is the houndstooth pattern, but there was not really a mix that fit my preferred color pattern. That fake leather crap and the plastic is for the birds. You "older" skydivers out there might recall that you used to be able to get junk like this on Mirages, Vectors, and Racers over 10 years ago; yuck! I will say, though, that I saw some TSE Teardrop rigs this past summer which were made of the "Alien Skin" fabric and I liked them.

In all, I am VERY pleased with my Javelin RS "Odyssey".
