The compleat Wing suit List

Recommended Posts

since we seem to be mentioning less innovative designs, perhaps it's also worth mentioning the one of a kind, yet innovative (or should I say sketchy?) stuff that people built for themselves... such as

Lurch's HARDCASE!!!

hey Lurch, did you assign names to any of your other contraptions?
p.s. I'm still waiting on my transparent wingsuit :)

oh yes, we want that too (at least I do)

The Pascal Gisler suits are great too :)

Oh god....you people DO realize well get into +- 5000 suits, instead of just the commercialy available ones.
And we'll end up ignoring a good portion of suits that people never heard about, or never made it publicly....

Id stick to listing 'the complete list of production model wingsuits'
Also seeing as much of the performance, or actual details on a lot of the proto/homework projects are largely unknown..

My first truly daily-driver prototype was actually informally named by Jeff Nebelkopf as the "Godzilla mod"... as good a name as any so I kept it.

I can really only claim two working suits. Most of my work was radical variants on an S-6 such as the zillamod. Only reason I'd even claim the zilla as a "suit I built" was it was such a radical rework that between the wings and Chuck Blue sneaking up and picking my decals off people did not recognize what the suit used to be when I flew it in public. That sucker was, like the Hardcase, a true unique one-off and the only in-flight convertible monowing/triwing design I know of. Worked pretty good, too. Easily dusted even a SuperMach1 XS and was still competitive with the X-Bird when it came out.

Hopelessly obsolete now of course but I still keep it handy as my backup suit, just in case.

So, Hardcase and the Godzilla S-6.

Although it'd be cool to be included in the list, nothing I built made it into production, so I don't think I qualify. But thanks for the honorable mention. :)
edit: The Hardcase is still kicking around my apartment. I ought to reassemble it and take more pics just for the hell of it if we wind up with two lists.

There have been two completely unrelated Tonysuit wingsuit designs known as "Apache".

There was one from about 5 or so years ago; I think it was before even the Mach 1. I recall jumping it in late 2007. (To confirm this, I went through my gmail and found a chat log from early 2008 where I was discussing the original Apache as a early/beginner suit, and mentioned that someone at the DZ I jumped at had one.)

The other, of course, is the current suit.

So, Tony and Jeff recycled the name, but what we now call the Apache is a completely different suit from what was originally called the Apache.

Not sure how you want to reflect that in your table, Medusa.

You forgot the Tony suit Stingray and a few more early models(Nebula, etc) that no longer exist in the line and or have morphed into something else; there was also the Lady Bird model. Keep in mind that list is not counting all the prototype and variants that are out there that have the same model name but are different in one way or another from the current model.

There are also quite a few more "one off" designs from Europe that most have not seen as they never made it commercially.

There is also the "UFO" from Zun/Fly your body. It is a one of a kind as far as I know and will never be released according to Zun.

There is/was also a MTR4 from Matter.

A modified fly your body type of suit with rigid ribs was built in Europe ( SUP Air I believe?)

The AIR Cat by Francis Heilman came out in the late 90s/2000

There are a few more I am positive, I just don't have the time to dig through all my files at the moment.

Jarno is right this is getting out of control.
So lets set up this rules. :)
We are going to dive this into:
- Commercially available, with tolerance for the pioneer models.
With "No longer Produce"

Prototypes, Non Commercial:
- This will include wing suit designs invented but never release.
- Unique wing suit invention, contraction and severe modifications. For a modification the wing suit needs to undergo severe structural changes, no bull shit like "I put gripers on my GTI and I called it the super GTI" or " I put duck tape on my S6 and I called it the Bulletproof" ;)

Tonight Ill be revising the list and moving wing suits around, so please let me know wish one need to be move and where.:)

Gotta collect them all!!!

Kitesurfing is much worse. There are 50+ companies easy, and each one has a half dozen kites.

Too many Tony prototypes to attempt to list. I believe this photo from left to right, is Nebula, Stingray, ______, and Eagle? I don't remember what Jeff called that single skin suit, but I do remember he claimed single skin was the future. :D
TONY SUIT LINEUP!

Also Tony called the Intro the Snow Angel when it was in a prototype.
SNOW ANGEL

There was also the MERCURY which I always thought looked neat, but never saw the light of day. Sort of did influence the newer Tony suits though, the Bird/Wing whatever they are called.

But my absolute favorite has to be the PAJAMA SUIT.

Wasn't there also a blue and green poly cotton suit that had lots of velcro?

I see to remember Sully trying it on after the very first flock and dock. It was basically like a huge camera wing with a leg wing added.

It had never been previously jumped, but I think Sully may have put a jump on it.

I'm trying to make a list of all the wing suits models that have been invented and all the different manufacturers.

I am aware of two "S&M Birds". I have one of them.

............................................

Arrranging your list in alphabetical order would appear less biased and praps serve your purpose better.

If it was to be properly useful in a historical sense you should include as much technical information about each suit as possible as well as providing some clues as to chronological development.
ie what improvement led to what development .

Historians just love to know who did what first and then who capitalised on it.

So above is the new list,

Had everything nice and organize with spaces but once I post it, it goes to crap.

If anyone wants to include technical data, be my guest. I wont include the dates of Manufacturing because doing so will be taking a while guess, also it will take to much time to research. ;)

If anyone wants to do it, make sure you are not making shit up :)
