DSE 3 #1 December 22, 2010 For those that weren't aware or haven't seen, the 2011 SIM is available both online and in print. The new section 6-9 has new wingsuit recommendations and requirements. http://www.uspa.org/SIM/Read/Section6/tabid/169/Default.aspx#

jumpsalot-2 2 #3 December 25, 2010 In my First WS flight course, my instructor Ed P, requires you to exit the plane and clear the horizontal stabilizer at least once or twice, showing stability flying in a position of hands crossed in front of chest and legs/knees bent and together, until the tail has past, then opening arms and legs to flying position. This is done with no wingsuit, until he says you are OK to exit with the Wingsuit on. I believe this should be required, but I didn't see it mentioned in the USPA BSR shown here. I'm sure other instructors do this, but it should be required. Most fun jumpers are so used to flying the relative wind right out of the door, they could easily, under stress of a first wingsuit exit, open their wings just out the door. Also looking back to the landing area a couple times in your flight is a good idea to stay orientated on your location relative to the Drop Zone. ..........And keep your goggles tight, to avoid tearing up on high speed jumps, which can cloud your vision, resulting in collisions or close calls. My three cents worth.Life is short ... jump often.
