the future of wingsuits @ lodi

Im also usually a friendly person, and not even a mod.
But Sangi, come on. You rarely add anything to a conversation, and most often just state silly and offensive one-liners, that (like in this case, if the DZO is reading) could only cause more grief.

Its an amazing feat to be elevated to the status where your name, for many people, is a tag they put on any annoying post. And that goes for both basejumper.com and dropzone.com
Think a bit before you post. Or otherwise just read and learn....

Sangi, have you ever been to Lodi?
You are an idiot.

.....not an idiot; i was thinking more along the lines of douchebag.

Everybody here ( myself included ) has at one time inserted thier foot into mouth .....and usually in some sort of fit of "over passion."

Sangi; you have not been there personally and you have no accurate form of reference, facts, or personal knowledge of all the people involved, how and who were involved in the current situation; and the diplomacy now under way to try to sooth some nerves and put things on a positive path.

From this day forward; your CALL SIGN ....in the sky.....SHALL NOW BE "DOUCHE"

Lodi is a great drop zone, and I've had a lot of fun there over the last 20 years, but it does march to the beat of a different drummer. Time was every drop zone was more like Lodi then they are now, but if you are not prepared to do what you're told, then Bill doesn't have any problem letting your business go.

It's a shame that wingsuits are now banned at Lodi, but depending on the reaction of the NorCal wingsuit community, this could just be a time out. It sounds like the wingsuiters need to actively police their activity with respect to visiting and new jumpers and not let them ruin what they have spent years building up here. Maybe if a system to control some of these issues was designed, Bill might relent and let them back to see how things go.

In the meantime, I'm sorry that we only have a measly King Air that can get you to 14K in 10 minutes, but we'll try to hide our shame and get you in the air until you work things out with Bill ;)

Please do not mistake this banning as being caused by some idiot wingsuit pilots only. There is good number of idiot freefly tracking groups that can not seem to navigate and land back on the dz, which caused this banning as well.
A sad fact to this banning is, that freefly groups are secretly still tracking, AND navigating this time, go figure.
Unfortunatly "they" can board the plane with a jumpsuit and track, while the wingsuit pilots are easily rejected from even boarding the plane.......>:(

If you have the jumps to handle a wingsuit, you should have the ability to navigate yourself and make a safe landing. If you cannot accomplish those two things, you shouldn't be on a wingsuit.

Exactly. Unfortunatly the major damage done was by trackers and freefly tracking groups landing out.
Further talks with the farmer that is complaining has reveiled, it's not the jumpers so much landing in the vineyard, but instead they are pissed about the people Bill makes go over and pick them up. They drive around locked gates and all over the property to find the jumper or cutaway gear that may have landed there.

i understand the importance of going and finding the jumper to make sure that they are safe and OK but make those mofos walk back. a few hikes back to the DZ through that clumpy dirt and grape steaks in the heat out there will surely convince them to land on the airport. it sure convinced me to not chop unless im spot on over the top of our field haha
Jump more, Bitch less.

Generally speaking, that is the rule at Skydive City.
Wingsuit lands off? They walk back.
No excuse for landing off in a wingsuit.
I've done it once.
:P

I was wondering when someone was going to bring this point up.

I've been jumping Lincoln lately and heard about the ban. I was taught, by ED, that when you exit, you look back to the landing area, to get your berings. Then at the next turn, you look at the landing area again How hard is that ? If you can't find it at exit, you can't find it later, so don't fly away from your situation into a worse spot. The landing area is 20 feet from a four lane freeway and two criss-crossing runways..........? My Mom could see that from altitude, and she's 80 yrs. old....Yes ED, I'm wingsuiting the 182L. in my Vampire 2, and Shadow. Mike H......Grass Valley
Life is short ... jump often.

I rarely visit this site anymore, but this thread really hits home.

To Avery: isn't it ironic that such a BASE bad-boy (old preconception by me) like you should have to post something like this. Odd how our attitudes change when we are about to lose our ability to jump at our home dropzone. You have given so much in money and spirit to the wingsuit community there that I can't imagine you guys losing your ability to flock freely.

to Eddie: You ought to be stomping mudholes in the asses of these pricks who can't navigate. Land off here at Raeford and I hope you have got a GPS. I am not about to police your sorry ass up.

To everyone: this problem is ANOTHER reason why it's not prudent to break the rules and start jumping wingsuits before you have the minimum mandated amount of jumps. Hell, for that matter, I can't begin to count the number of SUPER experienced jumpers who simply would (or could) not navigate back to the DZ on their first flights because they were so stoked to be cruising around the sky and geeking the camera. Ultimately, it's an INDIVIDUAL mandatory task to get your sorry ass back to the DZ. There is simply no excuse not to in a wingsuit. The spot ought never be too long or off-heading for a wingsuiter.

Police your own or pay the price like these brothers at Lodi are doing now.

Peace,

Chuckie

So no low pulls, no swoops, no wingsuits...all the sudden skydance ain't look that bad!

haha what a lame DZ.

I wonder why people even go there if the whole idea of FUN in jumping is being taken away..

The fossil who's running everything needs to go to the retirement house.

For once I actually agree with you. Why would anyone want to jump a dropzone where:

You cant swoop
You cant fly wingsuits
The airplanes are poorly maintained.

I'm sorry but I am having a hard time seeing it. Definitely not somewhere I would plan to visit.

There is a DZ close to my house.
The plane sucks (no windows), each jump takes an hour due to the dropzone being 10 km from the airfield, each jump costs me 29 euros, the landingzone is a muddy mess, and I get shit most times I fly a wingsuit.

Still, its close to my house, and I like flying there for the views, the people I jump with, and several other reasons.

All not related to dz management, rules, airplane, logistics etc.

But because its my 'home' dz.

As much as your couch sucks, your TV doesnt work properly, your toilet doesnt flush, and your carpet is dirty. But as much as the place sucks, its still your home, and it really sucks when somebody tells you you cant hang with friends on your couch, drink beers and watch TV anymore....

You may be used to a jacuzzi, flatscreen tv and full fridge. But to someone who doesnt have all that stuff closeby, that shitty old couch and stinky livingroom means a lot...

Intermission is over. :)
New rules are now in affect. If Lodi is NOT your home dz, or you have never flown a wingsuit there before, you MUST have a briefing from a local wingsuit pilot BEFORE you fly a wingsuit at Lodi.
This means if there are no wingsuit pilots around to give you this briefing, you DO NOT fly a wingsuit until you receive this wingsuit briefing, PERIOD!
After your navigation briefing, should your bad navigation or incompetence, lead you to an off dz landing, (meaning everyone not in a wingsuit or tracking lands on on the airport), you will be told to leave, and/or escorted off the drop zone.
Please make no mistake at the seriousness of these rules.
PLEASE get this word out. The local wingsuit pilots would like to keep flying our wingsuits at Lodi, so if you think your thinking about visiting Lodi to practice your tracking or wingsuit flying, you had better have your flight navigation skills dialed in 100%, period. ;)
Peace.
