Is the wingsuit market, tiny?

Recommended Posts

Say what? Whaddya mean, its been only two weeks! And there were two of him in one flock, at that, what with me flying his Phantom in the vertical challenge. It was wild, like Mike in stereo!

Seriously though, I'm still not really seeing your angle. You kind of made my point for me actually... number or lack of numbers... and there are more of us this year than ever. I just don't see anything like any indicators of a decline here. Aside from Mike going more than one week without his pic posted in major media somewhere, that is... and come on, even Mike gets to take a break from camera-geeking at least ONCE in awhile... right?

Ok, maybe he doesn't. You're right. Wingsuiting is on its way out. Fuck it. I'm hangin' it up and taking up minigolf. Its so exciting when I can get the little ball to go around the little windmill and over the little hump into the hole...:D

You really have a weird fixation when it comes to 'growth'.
Instead of a headcount (how many new flyers are there entering the sport), you have a fixation on a very limited/small section.

Head count is exactly what I'm basing my numbers on Sherlock, just not seeing your numbers.

PM flying with noobs+ experienced flyers = PM pictures. Its a fact.

I never said Wingsuiting is on its way out. I just don't see the huge expansion you guys claim to see.

But you said "Seriously though". I can't, I can't.

You aside, all other Americans are reporting seeing more flyers and new faces on each DZ they attend.

And as to my 'claims':
Try being at about 25 different dropzones around the EU in about half a year, and maybe you will see what Im seeing...ymmv ;):P

Yes I'm aware of this and its nothing new. This claim has been going on for a few years.

What I see is you get some you lose some. You get some and they are not 100%, in some cases they are not 50%. Some of my 100% wingsuiting friends wonder what makes a person drop a grand on a wingsuit and barely use it. One case is they gravitate to other more enticing disciplines ( I know you 100% claim Heretic) where the cool kids are.

Remember you were in that six way demonstration team fly like birdman instructor?

FlyLikeBrick is a 3 way team. Never had more than 3 members?
The TopGun team was never a demonstration team, each member in the team payd their own suit. Birdman never payd anything to their (in your eyes) 'sponsored' factory team.
Nobody cared.

Remember you were telling us the blade was the best suit ever?

no..I dont..as I never did...
I did say the Blade (at the time) was one of the better suits for the flying we did as a team, especially when it came to backflying and flocking. Now there is a lot of better stuff. Especially in terms of inflation and low-drag wing profile.

But if there is one thing Ive always been fair about its advice on which suit Ive been flying, what I prefered, and what I hope to fly/see change.
Not a single suit Ive been recommending has been one I got a discount on, got sponsored or was payd for with online sucking up.
Each one was payd with money, money made through the full-time job, in my own company, that I run to be able to do this hobby/passion.

It IS funny that you again ignore simple facts, and choose to fling random, non linked bullshit everyones direction, just because you're a grumpy old skydiver who lost touch with the community and whats happening...;)

I was sold on the Blade, didn't know what I didn't know, and after 3 returns to the factory (all the while jumping my Phantom), I learned a little more about suits.
Ed's event (where I met you) was very educational.
You weren't such a whiney bitch back then, what happened? Shrinkage?:o

Is *that* what this thread is really about?

Seriously...we are seeing a lot of newbies coming up and wanting to wingsuit. Retention will be determined by how much fun they have on their first flights (which is why I think education is important), by how clear the path forward is made, and by a friendly, open community interested in communal growth and personal challenge.
Not to mention having fun, of course.

C'mon Dennis Miller wanna-be...have some fun. Joner can help with that shrinkage, too.
See!? I'm *all* about solutions.:D

Last time I checked spot was activly cruising boogies, and flying with every new kid he meets, drawing them into the sport with enthousiasm and a lot of heart. Try and look at the wingsuit flying and new people a bit more often, they sit further back towards the cockpit (and exit after your crew/rw thingy has left the plane:P)

Still hope to fly with you someday gramps...;)
Maybe drop by at Zflock next spring..it may not be the huge multi-plane thing that makes your flacid viagra hungering body hard...but for sure, it will show you there are a lot of new kids out there, building this dicipline into something much more exciting and positive than your outlook on life;)

The number of base jumpers to base numbers is pretty far off, and a lot of those guys who dont have one are only flying wingsuits off big walls in europe. I think my 500 figure is a lot close to actual than the 100, but id be interested. I ordered my V3 after it was in production for almost 4 months and I was #86 in line at the time, and theyve sold many more since that, and thats only model of suit. They made those 86 suits in about 12 weeks, so I dont think 10 a week is that far fetched. Team ill vision ordered at least 20 suits in the last 2 years on its own.

I know the sales for Holland/Belgium alone are already at around 40 or so for just the last year. And those are two freakin' small countries, with an overal skydiver population lower than vectorboys spermcount!

The group of new and active flyers is a lot bigger that some of the old folks in here wil ever realise and admit to....hope they get back into active circulation again soon, and mingle with the new crowd:P

All of you pricks are killing me. I am one of the "chosen few" who have actually been fully sponsored by each and every manufacturer who's gear I jump. It's not a roll of the dice for the manufacturers; they all want to support the INSTRUCTORS and PROFESSIONALS like me who DO THIS FOR A LIVING. Emphasis is all mine. I LOATHE the people on here who think there is only one way to get the job done. EVERY manufacturer has production problems at one time or another. I will never, ever come on here and motherfuck a manufacturer. ANYONE who spends their own money to produce something that they feel is right for the market will ALWAYS have a spot on the rack at my school.

Chuck Blue, D-12501, DragonFly Wingsuit School
BMCI-4 (since there was such a thing), PF C/E (in this new world)
Dealer for every single wingsuit manufacturer
Flying production wingsuits since the VERY FIRST boogie they were brought to in the USA

Stop motherfucking your brothers, you fucking morons. SERIOUSLY. You all are just making yourselves look bad.

What if you spend say $1500 out of this hand and wait six months and get a box of shit that isn't finished, does not fit or is a completely different color from what you ordered six months ago in the other hand ?

You are sponsored so its nothing out of the left hand?

You are sponsored so you get priority returns on rework ?

$1500 bucks is a lot of money, six months is a lot of time. How does someone as cool and calm as yourself handle this situation?

But seriously this thread has been about market share, suit production quantities, my attitude ( don't ask me) a dutch method of orally tallying my sperm count. No manufacturers were motherfuct in this thread.
