American way of "flying"...

Recommended Posts

Hey,

After meeting Yuri last winter and having a brief yet informative conversation, it became clear of Yuri's goal in these posts. To get the kind of reaction he gets all the time. He loves ruffling feathers, "pun possibly intended", and getting people talking. He enjoys doing his own thing and making other people defensive about their own thing. The fact that I am writing this post is feeding into the post mill Yuri can create at a moments notice.

On another note, I also wouldn't be surprised if Chuck pissed in his Wheaties. I thought my Mini-wheats tasted funny the morning I didn't drink enough at the Crystal Bar. Ha anyway, I will continue to get a kick out of how easily Yuri can get a lengthy thread going. I am guilty in keeping the tradition going.

Hmmm... textbook definition of a "dick". Thanks for the clarification.

You know they have a word for that? It's called a 'troll' (see wikipedia for an informative article), and most internet forums have at least one. Yuri is the wingsuit forum's resident troll. We'll just have to learn to live with him... Until that time, "don't feed the trolls." ;)

Costyn, you're spoiling my fun, man. Much of this thread wouldn't be here if I hadn't decided it could use a little colorful action and started beatin' on him.
Trash talking is fun if you can back it up but his stuff needs a lot of help if he's going to entertain us.

So I gave him a demo... if you're going to talk trash, THAT is how its DONE.
I was hoping he would engage me in combat, get some intelligent argument going on, defend himself and hit back. Unfortunately his lack of enthusiastic response leads me to believe I just tried to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed person.
[:/]
I'm disappointed.

Can we get a moderator to lock threads like these in the future? They do nothing but spawn cheap shots and petty arguments...

Seriously...lets start cleaning up this forum

Agreed. I'm not a mod in the wingsuit forum, however.

Phil,
if I or the other MODS were to lock threads like these there would be absolute no one posting in this forum. If people want to shit talk and show their true colors, so be it as long as they abide by the forum rules; MODs cannot prevent people from being assholes/themselves. I am all for a good discourse and I do agree that the Noise to signal ratio in the forum has gotten quite high. However, it's everyone that involves themselves in these types of conversations that equally shares the blame as those who create the posts to begin with.

I will absolutely start cleaning this place up if that is what is wanted. But as the saying goes "Be careful what you ask for" because I guarantee you that someone is gonna get their panties in a wad once I start.

If you stick to forum rules in terms of removing noise, double posts, trolls etc I dont see why anyone would object..If post dissapear for other reasons, thats a whole different subject...

And even the shittiest of threads can serve a purpoise at times...when the most outragious comments, or non related discussions can sometimes spark true gems in terms of (thoughtfull) replies and the tips, safety awareness and knowledge within those..or just (be it blunt) make us aware of a general vibe or new trend we should be watching for...

Asking posters of agressive or offensive post to rewrite/rephrase their message into a more intelligent wording, so its a question or statement (instead of flame bait), seems more productive in the long run...though a lot of work...and if its clear the only message is a middle finger...than kill the post for sure...

Whichever works...
But Scott said..nobody forces anyone to read the forum or reply to threads you dont like..
Dont feed the trolls..we've seen the ugly side of cencoringin the past...its also not all its cracked up to be...

I think it was Keats who wrote, "A quarrel in the streets is a thing to be hated, but the energies displayed in them are fine."
I don't feed the trolls. On the few occasions I deign to notice their existence, I hack them to bits artistically using words as ninja swords for the art of it, rather like a kid tap-dancing on garden slugs in golf shoes, but with less mucus.
Plus it gives me an excuse to use words like "deign". I always wanted to use that word in a sentence.

Its in Ed Pawlowski's hair, man. He told me so himself.
I mean look, I can get away with the whole "wild animal in a hurricane" look because, well, I AM a wild animal in a hurricane, frequently. But really, its just the best I can do.

I don't know how to look good, my appearance is usually just a secondary effect of how deep into the blast radius I've been standing recently and how long its been since the last time I mowed my face. I make technical artifacts. This year alone, I handcarved two major pieces of robotics, two exotic fan-cooled LED handheld utility lights, one camera helmet made of carbonfuckingfiber, lexan-cored ceramic and RTV silicone, and one automated pipettor fatigue and life cycle testing device named "disposable button-pusher version 1.0" that could probably keep Yuri entertained for decades. The debris cloud I generated was EPIC.

And I fly well enough to compete with the man if I have to, but I absolutely can NOT compete with that hair and everybody knows it. I wouldn't even try, man, I'm totally outclassed. I've been working ninja tricks with materials and technology my whole life and I had no idea you could comb carbonfuckingfiber. Let alone get it to stay put throughout an entire world record event.
One thing that makes the wingsuit scene cooler than gangsters is we know all about respect. I know what I'm talking about here because I know and fly with all the masters. I've insulted Chuck, smashed Scotty Burns' bite switch to pieces, taken out Ed twice at one Flock and Dock event and witnessed Perry trying to get Matt Hoover to shoot a porno. I've been around, and the people on both coasts I've flown with are as hardcore as they come.

Our Northeast crew would NEVER pick a fight with the West Coast guys because we know better than to diss a regional flight culture represented by a guy who can make his hair work like that. About the only guy from up north with a chance against Ed's style would be Ben Lowe and his Stay-Puffed helmetproof mohawk. I don't know how he does it, but he's made us all very proud up here. If he wasn't in fact secretly taking lessons from Ed and using carbonfuckingfiber to stand it up like that, then he's using some Jedi materials technology I haven't encountered before and know nothing about. I'll have to ask him. Maybe I can work it into my next suit design... the leather and spectra thing is SO last year, I've got to come up with something new to keep Jeff on his toes.
