A book to end all the debates about the physics of wingsuit flight

Recommended Posts

Everyone knows college physics is about tapping a keg properly without over foaming. Real aeronautic math doesn't come until you're working on your masters in it or your 20th handbuilt prototype airfoil section or simulated stress coupon.

There is a lot of pointless masturbation with math referrences on here with some GPS plots for lubrication, blehgh!

Then there is the real wingsuit erotica, real video of truely unimaginable things from authors like Loic, Yves Rossy, VKB and a handful of other back country wingsuiting folks.

BTW very nice covershot Matt! Just think of all of the students having something worthy to be distracted over during lectures.

Congratulations, Matt! :)
Are my beautiful equations

dVx/dt = g*V*(Kl*Vy - Kd*Vx)
dVy/dt = g*(1 - V*(Kl*Vx + Kd*Vy))

in there? If not, tell the authors they suck in wingsuit theory! ;)

What's next? Jarno's Physics For Kindergartens book with "yuri sucks" masterpiece on the cover and a CD with porn music?

How much is the book? When I click the link to buy it I get a message that says "product not available". Is it not yet released?

Yeh, the book I got was an advance copy. I was told earlier it would ship in February. Here is the previous version, the 7th edition. I'd guess the 8th edition will sell for $100-$150 new when it ships. Having been through school myself and paid for engineering books... they ain't cheap.

Is there a chapter or discussion in the book about wingsuiting?

I doubt it. I skimmed the book trying to see if there were any problems containing wingsuits. There was one with a skydiver in freefall, but that's pretty much a token problem for every physics book I've ever seen. The description on the back cover is probably the best you'll get. I'm happy they were pretty accurate with that description, and they spelled both "skydiving" and "wingsuit" as singular words, properly.
