pug 0 #1 December 4, 2006 This link was originally posted in the BASE forum as part of the thread on the stuntman that jumped from the London Eye on Thursday last week: http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/basejump.shtml What struck me as maybe being of interest in terms of this forum was the bit at the end of the article, where it is stated that: "Gary now plans to jump from a plane one mile up with no parachute. He hopes to land safely using only a wingsuit - a specially made jumpsuit which contains wings - a feat that has never been attempted before. He is now looking for sponsorship to make the attempt possible, and hopes an aviation company will back him." Somehow this made me cringe...
Martini 0 #2 December 4, 2006 I'll pay for the jump ticket. Somebody has to step up to the plate here if Airbus won't. What kind of flowers does he like?Sometimes you eat the bear..............
mccordia 74 #3 December 4, 2006 Quote He is now looking for sponsorship to make the attempt possible Maybe its just me...but if someone truly wants to land with a wingsuit, it would actualy be cheeper then a normal skydive.. One jumpticket...and a wingsuit (which he should already have) No rig...no packjob... So a 15 dollar budget should cut it?JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? hjumper33 0 #6 December 4, 2006 Whenever this topic gets brought up, the person who wants to land the suit talks about "funding to develop the technologies needed". What technology are they talking about? I feel like the proposition of landing a wingsuit, as was just brought up, should involve two technologies, an airplane, and a wingsuit. A few months ago, I read an interview with Gary in a new aviation newspaper here in the UK. In it Gary talked about wanting to go to Norway to jump a wingsuit from the cliffs there, but it was apparent from the article that he had no wingsuit experience and little understanding as he was stating that he would achieve some ridiculous glide ratio that is not even remotely achievable by the best wingsuit pilots in the world with the latest wingsuits. Does anyone know if Gary actually wen to Norway (or anywhere else) and got any experience? I hope he isn't basing his ability to land the wingsuit on his expected performance! dploi 0 #8 December 4, 2006 I believe there is a somewhat direct correlation between dayblazing the London Eye for attention and ignorance of one's own ineptitude at... well... anything. Much less landing a wingsuit.
