Skylark 0 #1 May 1, 2005 Why the fuss over landing a wingsuit? To survive, you would have to travelling so slowly and gently, it wouldn't be much more different than landing a 39 canopy. The ultimate dream is to actually TAKE OFF AND FLY a wingsuit, from the ground. "Into the dangerous world I leapt..." Kris 0 #2 May 1, 2005 Slowly and gently? You've never seen a sub-50' canopy land in real life yet, have you?Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
ultraviolet 0 #3 May 1, 2005 That's already been done, they call it wingsuit BASE.
Kris 0 #4 May 1, 2005 QuoteThat's already been done, they call it wingsuit BASE. That guy doesn't count. For one, his canopy was at line-stretch when he hit. For another, he didn't exactly walk away.Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
PhreeZone 14 #5 May 1, 2005 I think he was refering to standing on a cliff then jumping meets the "take off from the ground" part. Partick was working on taking off from a ski slope, but if you are thinking about someone standing there and flapping hard enough to take off... I've got some beach property in Antartica to sell you. ultraviolet 0 #7 May 1, 2005 Yes, I was referring to wingsuit BASE as meeting the criteria for the take off from the ground part. But that just gave me an idea for a new type of flight. It would require a unique site . Say 1000' cliff that ran for a good ways, like a laminar coastal site. Where a wingsuit could be launched into the lift and then flown parallel to the ridge. Like hang gliding, in a wingsuit.
TomAiello 25 #8 May 1, 2005 QuoteWhere a wingsuit could be launched into the lift and then flown parallel to the ridge. It would take some pretty serious ridge lift to support a wingsuit.-- Tom Aiello [email protected] SnakeRiverBASE.com
ultraviolet 0 #9 May 1, 2005 Do you think a 40 mph wind would do it ? Your right, it would come down to wingloading. Someone very tall, skinny and light with say the sugarglider.
