Question for anyone using sony CX410

Hi guys just got a quick question regarding the Sony CX410, Has anyone cut off the stupid USB connection thingy on the side and if so does your camera still work with it gone???

The 'stupid USB connection thingy' is probably the only reason why I still prefer the 410 over the Ax53 for team filming and casual jumping. Makes getting the files on a computer for debriefs between two loads and hotfuel VERY fast and easy.

If you don't need it why not just strap it down with tape?
