GoPro underwater

Recommended Posts

A lot of people who use them for SCUBA use these filters: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1014994-REG/polar_pro_p1001_red_filter_color.html/prm/alsVwDtl

However, a better option is to get a high quality light source, such as this: http://img1.findthebest.com/sites/default/files/3801/media/images/Ikelite_Machined_Aluminum_Gopro_Tray_1315579.jpg

Any scuba folks have hints for using a Gopro underwater? Like filters or post-processing to get a decent color balance.

I use my GoPro for snorkelling and scuba diving, and think it is great. (I've got less than 200 jumps so not using it for skydiving yet.)

I'll post a video or two, so you can see what it looks like. If you don't go too deep scuba diving I don't think you need a filter. The divemaster I was with while in Hawaii did a filter on his though. We went down about 40 feet of that dive, but they go deeper on other dives.

Last summer I took an older HD Hero scuba diving in the Bahamas. Down to about 30 feet the footage was fine, after that everything blended into aquamarine and needed a red filter badly. I also got fogging in the case after roughly an hour.

I would recommend a red filter and anti-fogging inserts.

makes a huge difference how deep you are going, and what type of water you are diving in, anything about 30-40ft you don't really need a filter. Hero 2 was not in focus because of the round lens distorting the image you can get a flat lens replacement, or buy a new hero with flat lens.

speedy

I took an older model ( Hero 2) snorkeling and the picture quality was terrible. Nothing was in focus.

I got this video of a playful sea lion with a go-pro. Watch him hold his fin at the end and then float to the bottom and stand up.
