gopro anti-snag mounts

hi!

does anyone build themselves an anti-snag mount for a gopro? ive seen some rather interesting constructions, one including a block of styrofoam and a lot of gaffer tape.
i want to write something about gopro snag hazards and i would need a few more pictures, so im happy with anything you got, the perfectly made fiberglass box to the ghetto style gaffer construction.

I've seen some magnetic mounts. A bridle wrap would probably take a gopro off with one of those..

This is my idea of how a GoPro mount should look.
It s a rather thin piece of bent aluminum sheet metal that is mounted with two screws in elongated holes at the top. The sheet metal is bent down to the inner side of the helmet and attached with a third screw in the middle. The elongated holes allow some change of the angle, so it can be tilted down- or upwards.
Attached to the flat front is the GoPro back plate of the non waterproof housing, the regular case just gets attached to that.

The whole thing is set a bit lower than it would normally need to be so i still have room for my DSLR.

The bungee serves no purpose.

If it does not cost anything you are the product.

This is made with a soft plastic piece folded to give a U-Shape and installed in front of the camera. The gaffer tape is added to hold it in place.

2 small cuts of 1" were added to create a trap in the front. This give access to the clip to remove the camera.

I built this for my Rawa. Stands with industrial Velcro (stand on headdown) and I can actually remove it easily when I don't need a camera. I can move the gopro on a range of about 100 degrees. It's 3D printed so it can even come in different colors :).

Has anyone ever given thought to replacing the normal mounting thumb screw (connecting the base to the housing) with a quick release pull pin?
Camera gets snagged you just yank the pin out and release the camera and housing from the base.

Maybe not this exactly but something similar?

I think it would be great if we could have an opensource community for 3D printed GoPro mounts.
No one will become millionaire by selling these mounts. We all would much more benefit by working together on this.

Well, it ain't purdy, but I hand made this line deflector with moldable plastic (Instamorph; melts at ~140F/60C).

And it's not really a mount, but rather a deflector mounted around a standard GoPro stick-on mount. (You have to reverse the mount so that the camera slides in from the back, rather than the more usual from-the-front. The opening at the front is to allow me to get my fingers in to unmount the camera.)

It's attached to the helmet using 3-M mounting tape, the same stuff that holds the GoPro mount to the helmet.

@luron01: how hard to work/grind/rasp is the 3d printed material? is it possible to rasp/grind the curvature needed for a helmet in the finished print?
if so, would it be possible that you can give us a solidworks model of this mount with a flat surface at the bottom. so everyone can just work the curvature in there themselves to make it fit the helmet?

Should be pretty easy to gring the material with a machine. By hand, I don't know, you can try. Resistance actually depends on what type of printer you use. In the end, that's just plastic...

This mold works fine as a "front mount" but isn't really the best choice for "top" camera (don't know if I made myself clear...).
You can probably actually place it at the same place than the PhantomX official mount (on the lense).

Hi guys!

I've been developing some anti-snag mounts for this last year, and I'm adding new mounts every now and then.

As Luron said, I won't get rich by selling them, but I'm happy that I'm able to add some safety to all jumpers with cameras!

If you don't have a Gopro, but have some other similar camera, I can adapt any of the mounts to be used with it.
I've done it for the Xiaomi Yi and Dolycam.
